I do my best to create the 'tone' of the era rather than go into great detail. It's the characters I'm focused on and their emotions. Hopefully, i've managed to create a good Victorian romance :)

Rachel x
Rachel Brimble https://www.blogger.com/profile/07704679320900435805noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8392182043945362363.post-20296281449935862672013-04-08T21:43:59.763-04:002013-04-08T21:43:59.763-04:00Congratulations on the publication of The Seductio...Congratulations on the publication of The Seduction of Emily! I agree, emotion is very strong, universal and I can see why it is the most important thing in books - as we read, we invest ourselves in the characters and the plots and the emotions it draws from us. any book that can cause that, is a sign of wonderful writing.

lilypondreads at gmail dot comAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11209774851625668155noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8392182043945362363.post-78686672586761258632013-04-08T10:08:38.043-04:002013-04-08T10:08:38.043-04:00Hellooo!!!

I wrote this book with every intention of it being a stand-alone novel. I screamed my house down when my agent emailed me with news of a two-book contract. As soon as I saw the offer, I knew exactly which secondary character of The Seduction of Emily, I wanted to explore in book two...

Hi Karen!

The Lady Spies Trilogy sounds fantastic! I hadn't even heard of it until now - i will be looking the books up as soon as I finish here...just don't tell my husband ;)

As for your question - I tend to write one contemporary, one historical and repeat. It helps keep me focused and hopefully, my writing fresh. I like exploring the different settings and etiquette of the then and now. The difficulty only really comes with the historicals, they are SO much more challenging to write. Historical readers are aware of so aware of the intricacies of the era, it takes a lot of research but love my job! Right now, i write Victorian but am considering Georgian next.

Rachel x
Rachel Brimble https://www.blogger.com/profile/07704679320900435805noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8392182043945362363.post-75084807113694804212013-04-08T09:59:59.260-04:002013-04-08T09:59:59.260-04:0090% of the books I read are written in series or l...90% of the books I read are written in series or linked in some way. I tend to enjoy family linked books best, but I also like those books linked by theme or situation. For example, I just reading From London with Love by Jenna Petersen. It is the first of her Lady Spies Trilogy and is sort of a Regency Charlie's Angels theme. All the titles are plays on James Bond film titles. Pretty good too, so far.

Now a question for Rachel: What difficulties, if any, do you experience when you switch back and forth between genres? Do you complete all the books in one genre series before moving on to another?Karen Hhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13732638672537005826noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8392182043945362363.post-25621891593469699612013-04-08T09:41:25.637-04:002013-04-08T09:41:25.637-04:00I love series or linked books.
