At work, in family, community clubs and schools, with the economy or international politics, the question is, "Is anyone in charge here?" Dr. John Neufeld demonstrates the Bible teaching of God's providence. We are assured that God's Hand is upon everything and everyone, without exception. Dr. John explores God's sustaining grip through the natural world and human endeavor, in pivotal matters or the seemingly trivial, the things we welcome and those we shun. He teaches the impact of God's sovereign rule upon our hearts, minds, work, worship, homes, and nation. We can live in the confidence that God is unfolding His purpose for time and eternity.

What people are saying about Dr. John Neufeld's teaching:

"This is such an important message for us today. Thank you, Dr. John, for your encouragement to view what is presently concerning us in the world from the perspective of God and His providence. That should take a huge weight off our shoulders!"

Once we embrace God’s Providence, we find that nothing happens by accident. Not only is there no bad luck, there is no luck at all. The universe is not governed by fate or a bad alignment of the stars. Nothing just happens. Instead, all things are arranged by the providential hand of God, for his glory and the long-term good of those he has chosen, including the amount of rain we get and the silt that washes into the watershed. Once we embrace how God wisely arranges all things in our lives, we gain confidence in discovering how to grow in holiness, lean upon His grace and consider the needs of others before our own.

Gazes from Pablo Picasso are like brushstrokes. Some are long, lingering, full of texture and pigment. Some are short, shallow, even accidental. His gaze on me now falls somewhere between the two.

Once, his gaze would have found enough for an entire painting. He would have seen flesh, and the bone and muscle under the flesh, the question or certainty of the eyes. He would have seen past, present, and future and painted them in a way that made time irrelevant.

Yes, that was how he pained me. Everything and at once, all the angles and geometry of the body, and he made of me something eternal and always beautiful. That is what an artists can do for a woman. When most men looked at me, all I saw in their faces was desire, the urge to possess. When Pablo looked at me, his face filled with wonder waiting to be translated to lines and brushstrokes.

Spring. The second year of the Great War. I wasn’t twenty yet, and had returned from cold, starving Moscow, where a loaf of bread coast as much as a silk dress…Back to Paris for me!

When Pablo first saw me, I was sitting on the rim of the Wallace Fountain in Place Emile, face turned up to the sun like a basking cat, enjoying the fine day and wondering what adventure I might find…It was early summer. I had stolen a bunch of cherries at Les Halles and a roll, but my stomach rattled.

Like her first dog memoir, Harry's story comes from her mostly uncensored daily journal and takes place in Malibu, California.

Harry was a genuinely free spirit - wild, and very wolf-like. Did all this contribute to his being exceptionally happy? Perhaps.

Harry was not only the happiest being Barbara's ever known, happy to the very core of him, but also the bravest. More than once in his life, Harry had to face true adversity, and each time, Barbara would look at him in wonder, not fully understanding how a being could be so brave and at the same time continue to be so happy.

Harry literally pranced through life, with a joyous attitude that made being around him like magic. Barbara fell in love with Harry. And as you immerse yourself in Harry's story, it's likely you will too! Happy Harry is unforgettable!

Read an Excerpt

Harry had a girlfriend for a while when he was about four or five years old. Probably for a couple of years. Oh he didn’t see her every day, but for that two year-or-so stretch maybe once or twice a week. …

Roxie, a one-year-old Yellow Lab – the taller, leaner hunting type – was beautiful, energetic, and happy. Just like Harry. Roxie lived a few miles from our house, on the Point in Malibu. …

When Harry knew he was going to see Roxie, he would get so excited. He would pant, start running around, tail up, and on the ride over he would stand or pace in the back seat the whole time. So eager, such joy. And when we got there, he would literally go flying out of the car, with David at the other end of the leash. Tail up, full steam ahead. And Roxie, being just a year old and still quite a playful puppy, would go equally berserk when she saw Harry. They would sniff and kiss each other through the openings in the fence. …

Sometimes they would chase each other or run together, with the fence between them. David would run with them, since he had Harry on the leash. A few times Roxie’s owner came out and opened the gate to let Harry and Roxie be together. More kissing, chasing, tails up, sniffing. Both not believing their good luck. Both always bursting with joy the whole time they were together. Such a sight. …

Barney didn’t get nearly as excited as Harry about Roxie and didn’t interfere in their relationship. This was Harry’s territory. And it appeared Roxie only had eyes for Harry. …

It was always difficult to leave, because the whole time we were there Harry and Roxie were inseparable. Whenever Roxie’s owner would come out, we’d talk and laugh about the two lovebirds. It was wonderful seeing Harry and Roxie so happy. How he loved her…

Last night wasn’t just any dream. It was a dream that left nothing to the imagination. In the dream, she had a room in the Venetian, where they had returned for a long night of intimacy. She already knew how his lips felt pressed against hers and applied that same sensation to the rest of her body.

She had woken at four o’clock in a drenching sweat, despite the house being freezing. The dream had felt too real, and the part that bothered her the most was that she enjoyed it. When she fell back asleep—after an hour—she wanted to return to that dream. Even though she had plenty of doubt that any of it could become a reality.

It’s not like we’re in a relationship, she had told herself as she drove to work this morning. He still has his little girlfriend, and I don’t even know where my life is going to take me. Why does this have to be so complicated? It was much easier to hate him before this got all messy.

Turns out they aren’t dreams after all. They’re out-of-body experiences, like the ones her cousin Logan is having. At first Abby has fun with her new ability, using it to spy on her neighborhood crush and spook a mean girl. But when Logan gets in trouble on the astral plane, the game changes, and Abby must bend the rules of out-of-body travel as she journeys to a distant realm. Her mission is a perilous one, and success is not guaranteed. Can she save Logan and find her way home again? Or will the cousins be lost forever on the astral plane?

The girl slept on, never stirring, breathing deeply. Arms and legs akimbo, hair spread out like disconnected wires, mouth hanging open. Was that how I looked when I was sleeping? It wasn’t pretty.

Something twinkled below me, a translucent silvery cord tethering me to my body. I’d never noticed it in my dreams-that-weren’t-really-dreams, maybe because I hadn’t realized I was out of body. The cord, thick and round as Italian sausage, was weird but reassuring. I assumed it would keep me from getting lost, because no matter where I went, I could simply follow it back to my body.

But how did the cord work? Was it retractable like the cord on our vacuum cleaner? Stretchy like a bungee cord? If so, how far could it stretch? I wanted to test it for myself, but before I could do that, I needed to figure out how to move. For now, I was stuck in place like a stalled weather front.

A few nights ago, I’d traveled all the way to Sorcery Place. I’d gone to Sophia’s house, to Grandma’s. How had I done it?

More important, how could I get back into my body? I gave a psychic grunt, straining toward that sleeping form, but nothing happened. I was anchored to the ceiling as firmly as my physical body was anchored to the bed.

What if I couldn’t get back? What if I was stuck up here forever?

She even lived there during one of them. She enjoys power-walking on days when it’s not too hot, too cold, too rainy, too snowy, or too windy. On indoor days, you're likely to find her hard at work on her next novel or binge-watching old episodes of Survivor, her favorite guilty pleasure.

Kim has had her nose in a book practically since birth. Her first story, written at age six, was about a baby chick that hatched out of a little girl’s Easter egg after somehow surviving the hard-boiling process. These days she writes in a variety of genres, including adult romantic suspense, young adult, and middle-grade. Her books are published by The Wild Rose Press and have won several awards.

The movie was stupid and pointless, but with Justin throwing in his caustic remarks, it quickly turned hilarious. Even so, there were times when the movie made no sense to him. He couldn’t understand why a dried-up old man was hoeing a garden in the middle of the desert.

Alex watched intently in case he missed something. The tines of the rake flashed in the sunlight as they dug into the baked earth, stroking back and forth. The movement glittered in his eyes, making him sleepy…

He drifted in and out of consciousness until Mama’s stinging slaps roused him. His head pounded.

“You’re a strange child,” she whispered harshly as she yanked him to his feet.

“Y-yes,” he stuttered through chattering teeth. His left arm ached; she’d hurt it again.

Mama slapped him harder and his head struck the wall. He sank to his knees but struggled up. She didn’t like it when he fell.

They were in the garage again. So much pain awaited him on the shelves. He screamed silently and wished she’d just begin.

She paced up and down the cement floor, finally selecting a small clawed trowel she used in the yard. He could see bits of mud and weeds still clinging to it. She smiled. “Just the thing.”

***

He jumped when Justin let out a whoop of laughter, waking him. Startled, he spilled beer on his shirt, surprising himself and everyone else.

Justin threw him a towel.

“Sorry.”

Angie sprang up to save the carpet, and Brad hurried to grab another towel. As he passed it to Angie, he gave Alex a look of disgust.

“I think I’d better go home,” Alex said, plucking at his sticky shirt.

“No, you don’t,” Angie chided. She pushed him toward the hall. “Go into the bathroom and wash up. We’ll stop the movie until you get back. Justin, lend him a clean shirt.”

“Yes, ma’am,” Justin said, grinning. He took Alex’s arm. “This way, young man.”

He led Alex to the bathroom and left him there with a conspiratorial wink, then went to fetch a shirt.

Alone, Alex turned to the mirror and stared at the dark eyes reflected back at him. He reluctantly pulled the sodden shirt over his head, and winced. His chest was a tangled mass of scars, with several deep furrows carved over his heart. With dismay, he realized how vividly the scars stood out in the bathroom light and shut and locked the door.

A house where ghosts lurk in the basement and the faces in the paintings watch you walk up the front stairs. Rooms where you keep the closet doors closed tight at night. It’s where her love of the mysterious and wonderful came from. Dianne is the author of m/m romance, paranormal/suspense, fantasy adventure, the occasional thriller, and anything else that comes to mind.

She now lives in the beautiful Willamette Valley of Oregon with her incredibly patient husband, who puts up with the endless hours she spends hunched over the keyboard letting her characters play. Dianne says Oregon’s raindrops are the perfect setting in which to write. There’s something about being cooped up in the house with a fire crackling on the hearth and a cup of hot coffee in her hands, which kindles her imagination.

Currently, Dianne works as a floral designer in a locally-owned gift shop. Which is the perfect job for her. When not writing, she can express herself through the rich colors and textures of flowers and foliage.

Law enforcement isn’t for the fainthearted. Are you brave enough to enter my world?

Author’s note: I was a 9-1-1 dispatcher for way too many years and this novella contains some of the wilder incidents that occurred. Yes, sex on the sidewalk is based on a true incident.

I frowned. There were two naked people on the sidewalk having sex. The woman’s arms were flailing wildly. “Is he raping her?”

“Shit! I think so. Call it in.” Julie flipped on the overhead lights and made a kamikaze cut across four lanes of traffic. Tires squealed, horns honked, and people made rude hand gestures.

Hanging on for dear life, I keyed my mic. “Charlie-23 we’re out with a possible rape in progress at the corner of 59th avenue and Myrtle. I need you to notify Glendale Police Department.”

“Copy, Charlie-23,” the dispatcher replied.

Julie brought the patrol car to a skidding stop in a dry cleaner’s parking lot. We bailed out and sprinted over to the gyrating couple.

“Get off her!” I yelled.

“I’m not done yet,” the man growled and kept thrusting into the woman.

I Maced him. “Oh, yes, you are.”

“Fuck,” he bellowed, and frantically rubbed his eyes.

The woman wrapped her legs around his back and shrieked, “Go away. He’s my best customer.”

“Customer?” Julie shot me an astonished look.

I shook my head in disbelief and noticed the lookie-loos filming us. Great, just what we needed. “Mister, unless you want to get Maced again, you will get to your feet and pull your pants up. Now! No one wants to see that thing.”

Julie grabbed the loudly protesting prostitute under the arms and dragged her away from the john. “It’s against the law to have sex in public.”

Take this for example: I answered, “9-1-1 emergency, what’s your emergency?” And this hysterical woman yelled, “My bird is in a tree.” Sometimes I really couldn’t help myself, so I said, “Birds have a tendency to do that, ma’am.” The woman screeched, “No! You don’t understand. My pet parakeet is in the tree. I’ve just got to get him down.” Like I said, not a clue. “I’m sorry ma’am but we don’t get birds out of trees.” The woman then cried, “But… What about my husband? He’s up there, too.” See what I had to deal with? To keep from hitting myself repeatedly in the head with my phone I took up writing.

I decided to write my memoir when I reached my mid-eighties. Given the gift of longevity, I felt a strong need to review my life openly and to recall both the joyful moments as well as the days and nights of feeling anguish and hopelessness. Highlighting events and experiences in my life has given me the opportunity to better understand the emotional and physical cost over the years of denying the person I am and the pain of self-rejection.

Read an Excerpt

My travels broadened my perspective to better understand the cultural differences among peoples in the world but just as important was my increasing awareness all peoples strive to fulfill similar hopes and dreams.

Among the important learnings for me was to become aware I could travel independently and was significantly more adaptable than I had thought. I was aware of my openness and desire to learn from others and developed a major respect for the different ways people strive to meet their challenges in life. I’m grateful to so many for their hospitality and openness in allowing me to learn and to share in differing customs and traditions, some which were quite different from my own experiences.

My new perspectives led to feelings of deep respect and appreciation for all that I learned. I now know differences in language can be managed and handled and people everywhere share the same significant life tasks including the need to feel accepted and loved as they are; to find satisfaction in their work, to find love within their family and community and a hope their children will have opportunities to fulfill their potential.

I’m grateful to the Thai family I lived with for a year who were so generous and caring and respectful to me. The parents were professionals and had two young children. They kindly shared their home with Sung Wien who cared for the home and the children and prepared the evening meal for us each day consisting of many different dishes. I’m deeply appreciative of the Sri Lankan family I’ve known for more than 30 years who now live in Paris. I’ve known their three young adult children since their early childhood and am grateful for their on-going love. It brings special joy to me.

He has held faculty positions at National College in Evanston, Illinois and Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania where he taught students studying for both Master’s degrees and state certification. Prior to his retirement, he taught gifted elementary students in a ‘pull-out’ program. He is currently retired and continues his love of travel. Why do you write in your genre? What draws you to it?

D. Tina Batten: As a Christian, my primary focus is creating, writing, producing, and directing projects in the Christian genre. The Lord draws us nearer to Him as our writings will draw people closer to get to know and learn about our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. It gives me so much pleasure to share the teachings of Christ through fictional stories that relate to the everyday person in hopes that they will seek the Lord out for themselves. To develop a personal relationship with Him for themselves. To make the decision for themselves. A scripture comes to mind, “O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.” Psalms 34:8 kvj

Traci Wooden-Carlisle: I write Christian women’s fiction because I love creating complex characters and covering subjects that highlight and share God’s love, redemption and healing power. I love being prompted to write certain scenes and what I learn even as I write the words on the page.

What research is required?

D. Tina Batten: Though our book is a book of fiction, the dreams we experience that sometimes will take us into the spiritual realm was our research. Not only research but personal experience as well. As people of faith, we know that we are spiritual beings living in a physical body. But there are times when the spiritual realm feels more real than the natural realm. As we wrote, there is a thin line between the spiritual realm and the natural. That was our research into writing this phenomenal book.

Traci Wooden-Carlisle: Mmmm. For me and my co-author it is part imagination and part elaborating on our own experiences. Since our world is based on the contemporary real world.

Name one thing you learned from your hero/heroine.

D. Tina Batten: The heroine in our book is the main character Ms. V. I must say that I love learning from her consistency and discipline. Those are great traits and attributes to have as a person that seem to be a daily lesson for me as I strive to be more like her.

I admire Ms. V. 's discipline and consistency in continuing to pray for people even when her body aches and she’s feeling weary. Ms. V. will consistently pray for others when she doesn’t feel like it. She knows that she must do it in order to help those in need. Her consistency and discipline to do what she is called to do over and over and over again is something I aspire to do in my own life. As I said, it’s a daily lesson I still have yet to master.
Traci Wooden-Carlisle: I have learned that though there is power with prayer you can’t ignore that we are still limited to a degree by our bodies. We can feel led to give a great deal of ourselves to others but we still have to take care of our health.

Do you have any odd or interesting writing quirks, habits, or superstitions?

D. Tina Batten: With all the technology, smartphones, flip phones and the like, I prefer to write long hand first. Can you believe that? Of course, I will evidentially convert my long hand writings into digital form, but I love the feel of pen/pencil to paper. Give me a brand-new smooth gliding ink pen and a pad of paper any day of the week. That is my happy place. LOL. I’m sure I’m not the only one. Am I?

Traci Wooden-Carlisle: I love writing and typing with my fingerless gloves. I have a few different pairs. Do they help me write or allow me to concentrate better? Nope. I just love the way they feel.

Are you a plotter or pantser?

D. Tina Batten: I’m definitely a plotter. I find writing outlines helps me to craft a well-developed character arc which makes for a more interesting story. I use this technique for all my writings, film, books, and stage. For me, it’s all about the story. A great story never gets old.

Traci Wooden-Carlisle: I am a panster all of the way. I only have a general idea of what my books are going to be about. The rest I find out just a few minutes before I begin writing the page.

Look to your right – what’s sitting there?

D. Tina Batten: My huge Desktop Apple Computer Monitor ;-) I’m staring at it right now.

Traci Wooden-Carlisle: My phone and some jewelry making tools.

Anything new coming up from you? What?

D. Tina Batten: Yes. Absolutely. I’m an extremely creative person. Creative people are always working on something new. We continue to create. Not only am I working on shooting my first feature film, but my co-author Traci and I have major plans for the future of this book. Too early to spill the beans just yet, but trust me, this will be another fantastic year for us and for the people who support our work. I will say that we are planning to collaborate on another book in the series. That’s something not too far off in the distant future.

Traci Wooden-Carlisle: I am currently writing the next book in my Promises to Zion series. I have been publishing for others over the last two years and now it is time for me to get my stories out again.

Do you have a question for our readers?

D. Tina Batten: I would love to ask a question that was asked of me. Those that had an opportunity; what lesson did they learn from reading The Prayer Warrior?

Traci Wooden-Carlisle: In The Prayer Warrior we give our readers a chance to choose between two endings. One follows a more spiritual route and the other a more natural route. Which one do you like more?

Ms. V., a humble servant of the Lord, has been placed on assignment at Center of Hope Christian Academy.

By day, she serves as a trusted counselor for students, giving them a safe haven to pour out their innermost feelings while providing professional and honest truth wrapped in a firm kindness and love that inevitably draws them closer to Jesus. Not to be outdone, the faculty also bends her ear from time to time.

By night, Ms. V. enters the spiritual realm and takes her place on the battlefield as one of God’s faithful prayer warriors. She wields her whispering sword, slicing through the enemy’s plans to bind the precious hearts under her charge.
Her assignment’s burden on her physical body is taxing, but can she withstand the strain and remain victorious?
Saving souls is her true mission, but at what cost?

Readers are in for a journey of spiritual intrigue and biblical insight as they experience the ramifications of each character’s life-altering decision.

Read an Excerpt

Ms.V. walked around the room, taking in the curio cabinet in the corner under the window, the maple shelving unit against the far wall, and the oversized plush chair and small glass table in the corner opposite to her desk. She used it as a quiet corner. There were small mementos along the surfaces given to her from students, past and present showing their appreciation for her words of honest wisdom and pure encouragement and positivity, and how she helped them from a moment of crisis to clarity. They were each symbols of gratitude for the love she had shown them over the years; the many talks with no judgment, just pure love.

Many times, she would encourage people to make themselves comfortable. To some, it meant taking off their jackets and scarves, to others it meant taking off their shoes.

She noticed the sound of slow rhythmic beeping and looked around for the cause, but just as quickly as it came, there was nothing but silence. It struck a chord in her, reminding her of what she’d overlooked.

She’d been so preoccupied by everything she’d dreamed that morning, and maybe imagined when she first placed her key in the lock, that she’d forgone her daily ritual of praying over everything seen and unseen in her office.

She closed her eyes and took a deep breath as she focused on His presence. She ran her hands lovingly across the backs of the pleather chairs facing her desk as she prayed God’s love and peace would saturate them.

Living each other’s lives provides protection from the trauma of their past. But when tragedy strikes, one of the brothers plummets into a dissociative crisis that leads him down a murderous path.

As the body count rises, two cases end up in the courtroom, where judges, lawyers, and psychiatrists try to piece together which twin is the suspect and which is the victim. Everyone in the courtroom strives to bring the victims to justice–but how can justice be served when no one is sure who the defendant truly is?

Read an Excerpt

Like I said, me and Marty were from Maine. Born, bred, and fed. By foster parents mostly. Always hated the cold. We lived in drafty houses in winter, wore cheap coats in spring and fall, but not knowing any better, just accepted it. Lived our lives wherever the caseworkers said. You know, go here, stay there, new doctors, and interchangeable houses.

A general practitioner, whose first name was Doctor, talked to our first foster mother, but not us.

“Don’t worry, Mrs. Greyson,” the doctor said.

That’s what he always called her—Missus—she didn’t have a first name, and he didn’t have a last. He was Doctor and she was Mrs. Us? We were just two little jellybeans sitting in one chair. Doctor had three chairs in his office. One for her, one for him, and the third for us. I remember liking that—same chair, same us.

“Autonomous language is common, harmless, really. It’ll go away in time,” he told her. Not us. He never said anything to us. We don’t remember the exact words, but who cares? Fumbuck, he knew. You? How can you tell? Autonomous, dummy. Marty told me.

“They will always be hard to tell apart. Dress them differently. They will want to be together, with their family gone and all, but treat them like regular brothers, even if they are identical twins.”

About the Author I am a retiring lawyer, a working author, and a preserving blogger. I was a full-time trial lawyer for thirty-two years in a large Phoenix firm. I was a part-time law professor for the last twenty-nine years. As of summer, 2023, I am writing, publishing, and blogging full time. My first book was a textbook published by the Arizona State Bar Association. My first novel was published by the University of New Mexico Press. I’ve written ten novels and eight nonfiction titles as of July 2023.

From the day I entered law school, I’ve been reading cases, statutory law and writing about legal conundrums and flaws in our criminal and civil justice systems. I’ve always read novels, nonfiction, and historical fiction by great authors who were never corrupted by the staid habits of trial lawyers. I write long-form, interspersed with the occasional blog, op-ed, or essay. One of the unexpected benefits of reading the law is learning how to write about it. Somewhere along the trajectory from a baby lawyer to a senior one, I became intoxicated with blending nonfiction with fiction in books, rather than legal documents. After spending thirty years in courtrooms trying cases, I started writing about them. That led to writing novels while borrowing from famous historical settings and lesser-known characters. My courtroom days were chock full of ideas, notions, and hopes about ultimately becoming an author. I organized and memorized critical information for judges, juries, and clients. Now I use that experience to write vivid fiction and immersive nonfiction. I moved away from trial practice to teaching law students how to use creative writing techniques to tell their client’s stories, in short form.

F. Scott Fitzgerald said, “All good writing is swimming under water and holding your breath.” The same could be said of my transition from trying cases to writing crime fiction. I’ve been holding my breath for twenty years waiting for galley proofs and book reviews. Anais Nin spoke for all of us when she said, “We write to taste life twice.”

My first novel, The Gallup 14, won a coveted starred review from Publishers Weekly. I won a Spur Award from Western Writers of America in 2004 for my first nonfiction book (“Miranda, The Story of America’s Right to Remain Silent”). I won the 2010 Arizona Book of the Year Award, The Glyph Award, and a Southwest Publishing Top Twenty award in 2010, for “Innocent Until Interrogated—The Story of the Buddhist Temple Massacre.” My third nonfiction title (“Anatomy of a Confession—The Debra Milke Case”) was highly acclaimed. My nonfiction title “CALL HIM MAC—Ernest W. McFarland—The Arizona Years” was widely and favorably reviewed. My latest nonfiction crime book, “Nobody Did Anything Wrong But Me, was published by Twelve Tables Press, one of America’s most distinguished publisher of law books about important legal issues. No New York Times bestsellers, yet.

The inspiration for my story came from the ugly life that I lived, especially during my early childhood and adolescent days. One day, I looked at myself in the mirror and saw my past come alive as a horrific face. However, I did not turn away as I knew it was me. Rather, I chose to face my past and realized that mine was not the only face that I saw. I saw the faces of several other helpless little girls and women who underwent similar tortures, abuse, and molestation.

Then, I saw the other side of me – a woman who had outgrown this situation and had come out strong. I thought to myself, “if I can do it, why not help those who can’t?” that’s when I decided to write my book, “I Survived” and put it out there on Amazon and Kindle. You can read about my ugly torturous life in my book on Kindle or order it on Amazon.

This was a turning point in my life for me. My initial thought was to put my story out there for people to know about the kind of pain and torture I was subject to by some of the ruthless people in my life. Then, I looked further and realized that I am already an inspiration to other little girls and women who suffer similar fates. That’s when I thought of making myself available to them, to love them, to care for them, to show them the path forward, to get them out of their misery and suffering.

Hence, the inspiration for my story is me – my life, my ugly, bitter truth. That’s when I underwent a transformation and today, I am not only an inspiration for others, I have also started my “Monday Motivation” series for my followers and fans on social media. Read my book, “I Survived” on Kindle or order your copy on Amazon. Follow me on Instagram and Facebook for regular updates and inspiration.

We always thought my grandma was crazy because of how she treated us. For example, I remember a time my grandma whipped me. She had the switch in one hand and a gun in the other (no lie). It was a revolver. I know this because I had seen it before in her small travel case. She told me if I moved, she was going to shoot me. Judging from our history, I wasn’t going to test her. She was whipping my butt, and I was screaming for my little brother and sister to help me, call the police, and do something, but they wouldn’t move. They were crying on the front porch like they were the one it was happening to, but little did I know that my grandmother told them they would be next if they move off the porch. We all were scared. I think what hurt me more was not the whipping itself (yeah, the hits hurt) but her calling people bragging about what she did, and telling people that if I had moved, she was really going to shoot me—the nerve of her.

About the Author: Franco D'Auria discovered a passion for writing and world-building through his long career as a game designer for HitGrab Labs. Lending his voice to the game MouseHunt and its whimsical fantasy world of Gnawnia, his imagination was bursting for new creative outlets.

One thousand years in the future, humans have developed the ability to alter their genes to create a perfect version of themselves, but not all are so fortunate. Cerys Skye is a Wild Type, genetically unaltered and forced to live in the Refuge—a place for Wild Types and the unlucky citizens whose genetic modifications society has deemed as imperfect.

All the fiery tempered young woman knows is how to fight. Using her wits and skills, Cerys must compete in brutal prize fights if she is to bring food to the table for her younger sister. But, she is always aware that the next fight could her last—she must find a way out of this life.

Leaving behind all that she knows, the last place the tempestuous Cerys expects to find herself is joining the United Planet's Space Force Academy, where she battles prejudice and intolerance in a world run by genetically modified humans.

As the new recruit discovers, not all is as it seems at the Academy with a shadowy cyber-evil seeking to threaten humanity. But, when loyalties are tested and the stakes are high, can Cerys rely on newfound allies and her unshakeable courage to stop the impending catastrophe?

She felt light-headed. “I need half an hour. To find my sister, that’s all…” Starla would understand this was for both of them. She would ask Gerry to take Starla in. Of course, she would. Gerry had a big heart.

“If you’re joining the Space Force, you leave now. You must decide,” he said.

Panic seized her. “I have to say goodbye. I must make arrangements.”

“Step into the pick-up zone. Or you are free to stay behind.”

Cerys glanced up at the silver disk darting through the clouds towards them. She looked back at the crowd. Inquisitive tourists gathered in a wide circle around her. Standing on the edge of the pick-up zone, their faces flashed: green, white, green, white.

In that moment, a woman shoved to the front of the crowd, the haft of a sword glinting over her shoulder—a Valkyrie.

“Kara,” Cerys shouted. “Over here.”

“Cerys.” Kara strode towards the checkpoint. GMs shrank away. “What’s going on? Did they take you? I heard about it.”

The secofficer scowled, and the crowd whooped.

“Kara, listen.” Cerys tugged her aside. “I’ve been recruited to the Space Force. Tell Gerry to look after Starla, and tell Starla…I love her. I’m getting her out of here. I’ll send money. Promise me.”

Kara blinked. “Now? You’re going now?”

“Just promise.”

“I promise.” She nodded vigorously. “Of course, I promise. Hey, what’s this…?”

Secnoids grabbed Kara from behind, dragging her away. Even the famous Valkyrie were not permitted to say goodbye.

“Tell Starla I’ll message…” Cerys shouted, but Kara was already lost in the crowd.

Things You Might Not Guess About Me

One thing you’d never guess about me is that in reality I break all the rules set out for newbie authors on purpose. I don’t like rules and I am not trying to be a literary author at all. I think putting rules on something creative like writing is a bit silly. No, you don’t need to use adverbs all the time, but I love them. No, you don’t have to have a prologue but sometimes its necessary. I don’t restrict myself when writing or editing. I write what fits the story.

Another thing you’d never guess about me is that I am both an introvert and an extrovert. I am usually reserved when meeting a person for the first time but after that I can be quite wild. I love walking into a room and feeling it for “temperature.” If the tone is depressing and quiet, I walk around talking to people to elevate their moods. I love making people laugh. Nothing other than writing gives me more pleasure.

On the same note, I am a people attractor. Yep, no matter where I go, people walk up to me and start talking. It’s a phenomenon that has been happening all my life. It doesn’t matter if I am in a good mood or a bad mood, people walk up to me and start talking. I always attract attention. Even when my hair isn’t a weird color, and my eyes are normally colored. I’ll be in a store, minding my business and a stranger will walk up to me and start talking about their day or asking my opinion. It’s a drain on my system so I have to go out when I am fully “charged.” Yep. I’m an empath too.

I based the characters in The Witches Prophecy on people in my life or people I knew. Everyone except Xaivier. I had to imagine him as my ideal guy. Trouble is based closely on me. You’re always told write what you know. I know myself quite well. In order to write Trouble, I based her solely on myself. She’s full figured, sarcastic, and sassy. You’re told not to do that as a writer either. In the earlier drafts she has an ex-boyfriend in the book that was an amalgamation of all my ex-boyfriends, but I hated him so bad I wrote most of him out.

One last thing you’d never guess about me is that I love action movies and anime. I love it so much I used to watch it all the time but something funny happens to me when I watch it. When I am watching anime especially, I get so wrapped up in it. Too wrapped up. And when I get too excited about something I pass out. Yep, something thrilling like a karate will be happening and I will get so amped up I will start screaming then I will pass out. It’s happened twice to me. My daughter bans me from watching certain anime. So, no Attack on Titans for me.

Armed with determination and a toolkit full of DIY magic, Coralie sets out to revive her grandmother's worn-down house. If anyone can breathe new life into the old walls, it's her. And with lifelong friendships awaiting her, she has a support system as sturdy as a bear shifter's embrace.

Little does she know that her homecoming will launch her into the wildest roller coaster ride of midlife dating and a mating bond that makes her head spin faster than a tornado. Coralie certainly hadn't signed up for this level of excitement, but here she was, courtesy of the enigmatic mastermind herself, Mrs. Wilde. The queen of matchmaking and the architect of the notorious Peculiar Hearts Dating Agency promises Coralie a spicy rebound for her upcoming high school reunion.

Enter Jax, a scorching hot bear shifter haunted by a love that's gripped him since high school. Just when he finally has a shot at settling down, a pesky ex-harpy swoops in, flapping her wings and causing more drama than a forest full of squawking birds. Tired of the chaos, this bear is ready to throw in the towel and hibernate for good!

But as they say, fate has a wicked sense of humor.

Beneath the surface of his chance to make things right and rewrite history are secrets that could detonate like a ticking time bomb, threatening to shatter their fragile bond. Coralie holds a haunting secret buried deep within her heart. It shapes the choices that molded her into the fierce, curvy woman she is today. As for Jax, his past is a murky labyrinth of pain and darkness. Lives and love swing on a high-stakes pendulum as danger closes in.

Can Coralie and Jax beat the odds, untangle the mystery of the danger stalking them, and build a future that defies the limits of their pasts?

Read an Excerpt

Coralie doubted her decision to visit Mrs. Wilde, the matchmaker with an enigmatic reputation. It felt like a leap of faith that teetered on the edge of being a colossal mistake. She had confided in Jessie, expressing her reservations about the whole mess. But she had stood at Eleanora’s door, unable to turn back. After all, Jessie had driven her here. It would be incredibly rude to stand up the sprightly matchmaker after her friend had made the appointment and likely bartered something with Mrs. Wilde. Coralie couldn’t help but wonder what kind of deal Jessie had struck.

Coralie inhaled, steeling herself as she met Eleanora’s piercing gaze. There was a glimmer of hope, so faint it was almost imperceptible. “Honestly, I don’t know anymore.”

“Your sex life may be nonexistent, but deep down, do you want it to be?” Eleanora asked, cutting right to the chase.

Coralie took a moment to ponder the question, considering the possibilities. Jessie’s persistent nudging had pushed her to this moment, and perhaps it was time to let go of the past. She had grown comfortable in her skin, embracing her curves, plus-size hourglass figure, and innate sensuality. The hurtful words of her ex still lingered, but she refused to let them define her. She didn’t want to resign to a life of spinsterhood and missed opportunities.

She licked her lips, feeling a flutter of excitement in her stomach. Wasn’t it time for her to indulge in some fun and pleasure? Besides, she had a looming high-school reunion on the horizon, and she needed a date who could turn heads.

“I may not be ready for a serious commitment at the moment, but I think I could handle some no-strings-attached fun,” Coralie confessed, her voice taking on a husky tone. “And I definitely need a date for my reunion.”

Eleanora pursed her lips, assessing Coralie with a shrewdness that made her squirm. “Is that all you want, my dear? A shifter with the perfect balance of charm and wildness? Are you absolutely certain that’s all you’re looking for?”

James writes paranormal romance and erotica, including Eternal Ever After (rebranded as Eternal Lover), featured in the bestselling Spice Box anthology. Her Ever Dark Immortals Series, which begins with Eternal Lover, has been described as “brimming with sensuality” and “romantic and sizzling hot.” The Isle of the Horse Shifters series starts with Ride: Awakening and is “lighthearted,” that is a “joy ride from beginning to end.”

She resides in the Philadelphia suburbs with her adoring husband Ron (aka Mr. A.C. James), who loves her imaginative yarns and punny sense of humor. She’s also a domestic violence advocate and discusses intimate partner violence and addiction to raise awareness on social media and through her writing. Many of her books include themes like alcoholism or addiction. If you love books that feature underdogs and redemption, her stories will capture your heart.

She spends most of her time drinking large vats of coffee while wrangling kids by day and writing by night. Recovering video game beta tester and tech geek who grew up going to cons and watching SmackDown. There’s probably some cosplay pictures around somewhere of her dressed up as Bloodberry from Saber Marionette J. Just don’t tell anyone.

At least, she would go home in disgrace, but her car was just repossessed. In front of the hottest guy she’s ever seen.

Travis Madera is supposed to hire an assistant. One with qualifications and experience. Someone who won’t be starstruck by the fact he’s a professional football player. But he never could resist a damsel in distress, especially one with all those curves.

Moriah’s been humiliated in front of guys like Travis before. But as his assistant, she has access to every moment of his day-to-day life, so surely she can stay ahead of any potential problems.

Until the past comes rushing into the present.

Read an Excerpt

“You’re kidding, right?” I sat straight on the leather sofa and gaped at Moriah.

She was grinning, a big cheesing smile that would have turned me on had what she was telling me not been so ridiculous. “Indeed not.”

Damn it. She wasn’t supposed to find humor in my misery.

“I thought you were Team Madera.” I scowled. There was no way this was happening to me. A large chunk of my masculine pride rebelled, and I recoiled as she stepped closer.

Moriah’s giggle was vibrant, rich, and made my groin twitch.

“I am, Travis. But the production company will pay more money if you wear the Speedo—plus, your female fans will be thoroughly impressed.” She pinched each end of a tiny, bright red men’s bikini, stretched it out, and wiggled from side to side with it.

She was taunting me. And despite my horror, I liked it.

Everything stopped, and I fixated on her face. Those flirty lips were plump, ripe. As were other parts of her, I was betting. Things I shouldn’t think about, especially not now and not about her.

She was better than that.

I shouldn’t have hired such a sexy assistant. I’d have been better off with a doting grandma type. A maternal old lady that folded clothes. Definitely not a woman I’d fantasize about wearing one of my jerseys and nothing else.

“Being objectified for cash feels wrong.”

The disdain that dripped from her sizzled all around us. “And yet men have been doing it to women for decades.”

“Fair point. But I’m an athlete, not a model. Hell, I’m covered in ink—not exactly Speedo material there.” I leaned back on the couch. Arguing with her was fun, even if I was going to lose. I’d film for Shark Week, if nothing more than to out-Speedo Gronkowski.

Moriah snorted. “I think the ink is part of the appeal. Women love it—nothing screams bad boy like tattoos.”

She turned away, but not before something like to embarrassment flashed in her eyes and darkened her cheeks.

God, I wanted to make her blush like that when she was naked under me. “You like inked up guys, Mariposa?’ I sure the hell hoped so.

"Poetry: a literary work in which special intensity is given to the expression of feelings and ideas by the use of distinctive style and rhythm."

Poetry means different things to different people. For me, it is all about feelings. If it captures the emotions of the reader, a poem will resonate and fill the soul. It can mean everything to one person and not much at all to another. The mood of the reader, and no one else, determines the outcome.

For example, love poems are wonderful when you are in love, and their passion is amazing. If you are facing adversity, however, love poems likely will just annoy you.

In this second book, Poetry from my Heart: The Journey Continues, I have again divided the poems into categories which will fit your mood no matter what you are experiencing at the time you choose to explore them. There should be something for everyone, whether you are in love, out of love, hurt, lonely, angry, abandoned, or facing other challenges in your life.

Poetry has a healing power that nurtures the soul and quietens the mind and so I hope that whatever your situation is in life, you have found something here that helped you safely on your own journey.

The green hills of Ireland

The green hills of Ireland are calling to me
I hear their soft whisper wherever I roam
No matter whether on land or on sea
The green hills of Ireland keep calling me home

I lived in old Ireland as a young lad you see
And I left my heart there on some mossy hillside
Now I yearn to go back to set my heart free
And awaken a dream I can no longer hide

For I love your high mountains and windy seashore
Your hills and your streams rolling down to the sea
And I long to go home to my lost land of yore
And return to the Irish that’s deep within me

Now sheep in the pastures are calling to me
From the craggy rock walls that keep them inside
While the streams that run down from the mountains so free
Speak sparkling with hope and a joy they can’t hide

I long for the ocean on the Wild Atlantic Way
And the crazy coast road that winds in and out
And the sea breeze that whispers I hope you will stay
And the people all happily wandering about

I remember the old priory standing in ruins
Near Castletownroche with its bridge and its mill
I recall all the pubs with their loud Irish tunes
And my mind wanders back where my soul lingers still

I miss all the people so friendly and kind
With their musical language and soft Irish smiles
How they welcomed me home with a grace so refined
That I felt their great love from thousands of miles

The green hills of Ireland keep calling to me
Come home now we’re waiting to see you once more
For you know in your heart it’s the place you must be
So return again Irish to your green land of yore

He was born in September 1946 in Castletownroche, a small townland village in County Cork, Eire.

It was there in Castletownroche that his romantic imagination was sparked as he came to love and appreciate the magic of his surroundings. Those early experiences were the genesis of his poetry that emerged in later life.

As a young adult, Paul lived in London, England, where he became a chartered accountant.

At age 25, restless for adventure, Paul moved to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, where he still resides today.

Paul is happily married and is a proud father and grandfather.

Paul writes poetry as the inspiration comes to him. As long as his mind, body and soul are willing companions and his spark of inspiration remains alive, he will continue to write.

This book is Paul's second publication in his Willing Heart series. His first book was published in the Spring of 2022 and is called Poetry from My Heart: A Journey through Feelings. The book reached #1 on Amazon’s Kindle chart in British Poetry and #2 in Poetry Anthologies November 2023.

He was hired by the Dawson City Police Force, and after graduating from police college he was assigned to work as an undercover operative in a motorcycle gang.

Ricky, although happy, was struggling living his double life as a cop and biker. Then it happened: during a biker war, Ricky's life was saved by agents from the World Council (TWC). TWC was created by the world's leaders to prevent manmade disasters from happening and to liaise with aliens who have been monitoring mankind for hundreds of years. TWC's mandate, with the assistance of aliens, is to ensure mankind's continued existence.

TWC is a highly secretive organization, whose agents have the ability to travel through time, to change history, and to take lives to save lives. Ricky becomes a TWC agent and discovers that TWC's command staff is making unethical decisions, hiding secrets about aliens and trying to reduce the world's population through biological warfare. Ricky teams up with other agents and tries to save mankind and the world from disaster.

Jeffrey moved closer to Tiffany and was trying to convince her that she had done the right thing, in helping mankind.

Jeffrey then started to spill his guts, “I have plans to save mankind and the planet through population control and that it is necessary for that virus outbreak to kill millions of people. If you reduce the population, you reduce the pollution and increase the food supply around the world. We would have eventually rescued the agents and brought them back to TWC.”

“I really don’t understand the need to kill millions of people and if it is such a good idea why did TWC authorize the agent’s original assignment to that country?”

Reacting swiftly, Damian lunged out of bed and rushed to Sarah's side, using his body as a shield between Alicia and her mother. "Alicia? Alicia?" he repeated, his voice desperate, hoping to break the hold of whatever trance had possessed her.

Alicia blinked, her eyes refocusing as she met her father's gaze. "Dad?" Her voice was calm, confusion evident in her tone. She glanced down at the knife in her hand. "What happened?"

"That's what we want to know," Damian replied, his voice filled with concern. "Your mother woke up and saw you standing over her with a knife."

Alicia's gaze shifted to Sarah, who sat trembling on the bed. "I don't remember coming in here. I don't know where I got the knife from." She looked back at her father. "I must've been sleepwalking again."

"What's the last thing you remember?" Damian asked, a trace of suspicion in his voice.

Alicia's mind raced, searching for a plausible explanation. She couldn't afford to be caught in the act of sneaking into their room. "I... I remember a nightmare. Yes, that's what it was. I was sleeping, and I had a nightmare. I didn't know what was going on. And the next thing I know, you're shaking me awake."

Relieved by Alicia's explanation, Damian gently took the knife from her hand. "Let me just take this from you," he said, his tone soothing. "And let's get you back into bed."

Welcome to It's Raining Books. What group did you hang out with in high school?

Oh, I was a mix. Band nerd, for sure (tuba/sousaphone), and chess club co-founder (the Diamond Lord’s habit of toying with his prey is definitely inherited from those days). But I also ran cross country and track (4x800 was my jam), and I got into pit band for the school musicals every year. So definitely on the nerdy side, but generally versatile.

What are you passionate about these days?

On the broad side? Contending with the changing climate and all the chaotic consequences of that, from preparing the homestead for better resilience (building a goat pen, expanding the rainwater harvesting systems, etc.) to getting the Emissary Quintet out to as many people as possible. On the more relaxed side, I’ve been playing a marathon of all the Legend of Zelda games this year, in in-universe order (as much as one can with the timeline, haha). That’s been a blast.

If you had to do your journey to getting published all over again, what would you do differently?

I’d probably skip the few years where I hadn’t settled on being an indie author and was querying agents. That put me in a stall, and when I realized I wasn’t likely to change my story because of a publisher demand anyway (a consequence of having already drafted five books before querying), I committed to the indie route.

Ebook or print? And why?

It’s hard to beat a hard copy. I’m old enough now (and my kids are old enough to do this as a gift idea) to appreciate the collector’s editions of classics, like Lord of the Rings or Dune. But as a forest scientist and someone very focused on climate change and responses to it, I’m a big supporter of both ebooks (for less paper and shipping) and print (for when the power goes down).

What is your favorite scene in this book?

My favorite scene in Emissary is spoiler-heavy, but the confrontation at the end between Ewan, Tree, and the Diamond Lord gets me fired up every time. An entire book of experience, struggle, suffering, and learning comes together as the character face off, all (or enough) secrets in the open, to fight for the futures they believe in.

One Future.

Ewan O’Meara is no stranger to death: in recent months, he’s found his way to limbo at least once per week, much to his parents’ concern. It’s a necessary price for getting experience to become the greatest adventurer his homeland of Veridor has ever known, but the overbearing Veridian Church has him pinned down, soaking him for the penance gold to unlock his stats each time he respawns. And because the Church’s ancient war put an end to both the godlike Gems and the epic quests they once bestowed, Ewan has no better alternative.

That is, until he encounters a young woman fleeing arrest from the Church’s soldiers. At first glance, Treanna Rothchild needs it: she’s clueless about Veridian life. But she has other skills that defy Ewan’s understanding, and she knows things. Unsettling, seditious things the Church wants kept secret at any cost.

And she’s in Veridor to raise an army, to fight an enemy only she can see.

Risking both life and soul, Ewan follows Treanna where no Veridian has ever been and there is no respawning. But for him to have a chance at making a real difference in the strange, harsh world she reveals to him, he must first come to terms with it. Especially as he and Treanna discover how much it has in common with Veridor—and how much they depend on each other to survive.

New-adult science fiction, wrapped in gaming and fantasy around a hopepunk core, Emissary is an immersive, thought-provoking adventure with a little teen romance and a lot of heart.

Tree broke contact, then looked at the others. “I’m taking command. Samuel, move Nathan to cover by the lift. Put his feet up, and keep pressure on that wound. We’ll throw down a kit once we can.”

Sam hesitated but nodded, then knelt to scoop Nathan up.

“Love,” Tree said, locking hard, frightened eyes on Ewan. “You’re with me. Loot the corpses. We’ll disguise ourselves, then retake the camel and retreat.”

“What about Gabe and Vincent?”

“They’ll escape with us, if they’re quick enough.”

Ewan swallowed. “Yes, ma’am.”

She darted off to one of the bodies, and he stepped over to the robed figure he’d impaled, thinking a bloody gash in his outfit might be less of a giveaway than a giant frapping hole. But when he pulled the robes free, he knew with a sickened jolt that blood was the least of the differences in appearance.

The man’s copper-skinned face was scarred all over in what was obviously a deliberate, artistic pattern, as though he’d mistaken a knife for a pen. His nose and ears were pierced through with bits of metal, with hair and beard braided and bound in wire that could have come from the ruin’s walls. His muscles were lean and hard, far better fed than should have been possible for someone from the Wastes. Even in death he had a feral air about him, a lingering lethal intent that had Ewan half expecting him to leap out of the sands again.

His hand still clutched a gun, hardly bigger than a tablet. Ewan reached for it, hesitated, and left it to retrieve his thrown sword.

Welcome to It's Raining Books. How has your book changed your life?

The book is like a child, consuming my life. I am enjoying the experience but it’s a part-time job. And the publishing stage is not a time to relax. The marketing and promotional stage is a daily effort.

What is your favorite book?

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. I love the story of redemption. References to this book are found in Sam Time, and it’s no coincidence the protagonist is seeking three ghosts while time traveling.

Do you listen to audio books? Will Sam Time be available as an audiobook?

I have never listened to an audio book. For me, books are for reading, at my own pace. But I know people who do enjoy audio books, and Sam Time will be available in audio, narrated by Naylene Frunk.

How long did it take you to write this book?

Under 2 years. I wrote the core story in 5 months. Afterwards the manuscript was heavily edited and some chapters rewritten based on reviewer’s suggestions. Formatting the book using Adobe Indesign included editing. As the story took the shape of a book, I could see errors previously missed, such as two consecutive paragraphs beginning with the same word.

When are you most happy?

I love being at home, in my home office where I read, write, sew and knit.

Her nighttime dreams being so vivid, Samantha believes she’s traveling to a past century. As she navigates the Victorian era rules of dos and even more don’ts, she charms Ulysses S Grant while struggling to maintain her present-day romance.

But this was Samantha’s dream, and she could be bold. She stepped forward until she was several feet from Grant and stopped. “Lieutenant Grant,” she said softly.

He turned around. His light blue eyes were his most striking feature. Chestnut-brown hair, mustache, and beard. Straight nose. Square jaw. Wide-at-the-temples facial bone structure. About five eight in height. Slim beneath the soldier’s coat. This was Ulysses S. Grant. In his early thirties. Good-looking.

He glanced at Samantha and then turned around to tend to his horse.

He’s a married man, and he sees an unknown woman. What are the protocols?

Her dream. Her rules.

Samantha persisted, using what she thought was common phraseology for this era. “Lieutenant Grant, I am Miss Samantha. I hear you are an expert horseman. I would be most pleased in taking lessons under your tutelage.”

His back still facing her, he made no reply.

She thought quickly of a scheme. “My brothers are in town on business. It would be most helpful to our family business, if I could learn how to ride.”

“I am a soldier with duties at the fort.” He speaks.

“I understand, Lieutenant Grant. But surely you have leave.”

While keeping a distance of several feet, she stepped to his side so she could see his profile. “I understand you will not transact with a lady, but I will return with one of my brothers. He will pay you compensation.”

“Others can teach you.”

As daughter to the High King, love doesn’t come easily to Gráinne. Having turned down hundreds of suitors, she is being forced to marry Finn, an old, ugly yet powerful general. While outside the marriage hall, Gráinne bumps into Diarmuid, Finn’s handsome foster son. From that moment, Gráinne knows if she is to have any chance at love, he is the one she must marry. She begs him to take her away from this unwanted wedding. When Diarmuid refuses, Gráinne, desperate, places a curse on him; help her or die.

Diarmuid is a warrior who only wants to serve loyally, but when the princess sets her sights on him and casts her curse, he must make the most difficult choice of his life. Does he help her, taking their chances with a vengeful Finn, or does her refuse her, leaving her to her fate, and risking his own death?

With both their lives on the line, Gráinne and Diarmuid must fight to use Ireland’s ancient magick to escape from Finn, either bringing them together in passion or in death.

A Curse of Magick is a passionate tale of love, betrayal, revenge, and redemption. A retelling of an ancient Irish myth, A Curse of Magick takes the love and romance of Romeo and Juliet, and the exhilaration of King Arthur, and mixes it together for a satisfying adventure all will love.

Gráinne stumbled up the path to the top of the cliff. The wind whipped her hair and cloak around her. The moon had disappeared behind skittering clouds. Still furious at Diarmuid, she turned south and stomped along the edge of the cliff.

“That stupid, stupid man.” With the rage that boiled inside her, alongside the dark, she could barely see where she was going. She stepped on a loose stone that rolled and tumbled down, bouncing, and crashing to the bottom of the cliff below. Gráinne struggled to stay upright but her balance failed her. Her leg slid to the right and over the edge of the cliff. She grabbed a jutting stone, near the size of the giant’s head, and held on. Her heart was pounding, and the little vision she had swam as the sharp edges of the stone cut into her hands. She scrabbled at the stone, tearing her nails until they bled. She pulled hard against the stone until the muscles in her arms trembled and her hands, too, bled. She struggled to find purchase with her feet. Her left foot pushed against the cliff edge but only managed to kick over more stones. Gasping, her breath burned in her chest and tore at her throat. She pulled her knee up as tightly to her chest as she could until her toes found a tiny solid outcropping. With a final powerful kick, she pulled herself up to safety.

Read an Excerpt:

Spirit has been teaching me about oneness. As humans, we are all one. I guess one is not the loneliest number, after all. What if I told you this extends to far greater than humanity. All sentient beings are one. All living things are one. The intersection of all three groups represents oneness. With that in mind, it becomes that much more important to be aware of your surroundings and all involved parties.

As you discover yourself, your needs, your boundaries, your strengths and your limitless ways, it becomes that much more important to be sensitive to all sentient beings and all living things on Earth. The notion of protection of all is relevant. The notion of lending a hand to elevate another is meaningful and involves your heart’s frequency. We are all interconnected. I would go as far as to say, this extends to the afterlife as well. I suspect it also extends to anything moving about in the great universe and beyond. Your soul is far from being on a solo journey while you are looking to expand, evolve, learn and experience. It’s all right to complete the soul’s long list of wishes, but it is imperative to do so while keeping the greater good of others in mind too.

With new beginnings in Montreal, adaptations to be made, she carved a life in North America. She received her Bachelor and Master of Education in Educational and Counselling Psychology, at McGill University. Since 1991, she has been working with her students in classrooms and in private practice, teaching them French as a second language, literature, history, as well executive functioning skills, while reminding them that they are limitless beings with gifts and capabilities that extend far beyond their imagination. It all starts with setting an intention and implicitly believing in yourself. Education, knowledge, self-improvement and self-empowerment paired with curiosity and her favourite aphorism, “leave no stone unturned,” define the fabric of her life. With Spirit nestled in stereo, she now has access to a crisp means of learning, which involves a great deal of hands-on, experiential learning.

She began writing her debut, prescriptive non-fiction, a spiritual self-help, after delving into the study of transformation, spirituality, intuition and manifestation. When she is not busy editing her second novel, a narrative memoir, she can be found walking in nature, connecting to her students, embracing her limitations in yoga, deeply breathing, having insightful exchanges with her family and friends, and just being. Since the summer of 2021, she has been sending free, monthly, distant energy healing to those in need, especially during this worldwide pandemic, where people are suffering in many different ways. Even with energy medicine, she proves to be most effective helping children. She continues to live in Montreal, Canada, and she can be found sharing her insight on Instagram @tania.kiaizadeh.
