Prairie Muse by S.S. Hampton, Sr.

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. The author will be awarding a $10 Amazon or B/N GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

The fireworks are about to begin as the sexual adventure of Rachel and Burt Markham continues. Small business owners and happily married couple of 20+ years, they live in the small town of Four Corners, Kansas. The year before, with the permission and encouragement of her husband, Rachel had the freedom to explore the depth of her sensuality through having her first Bull. After saying farewell to her Bull, Rachel and Burt settle back into the routine of small town life. Then, African-American frustrated artist and new fireworks territory sales manager Horus Grant arrives in Four Corners. He is searching for new sales territory for the Missouri-based company and wants to open a fireworks stand next to Rachel and Burt’s seed and feed store. Outwardly friendly and personable, he is plagued by hidden demons. Though based in near-by Wichita, Horus finds himself returning to Four Corners again and again, and not because of the fireworks stand. Rachel is also drawn to him and soon realizes she may hold the key to Horus’s slim chance of defeating his demons, of healing, and learning to live again.

Read an excerpt:

“Well, that doesn’t sound like such a bad idea. Most of the kids around here work on family farms or ranches, and would enjoy earning a little extra money. They’re pretty handy with tools.”

Horus smiled. He lifted his head and squinted his eyes.

Burt followed his gaze. Rachel appeared on the shady tree-lined road accompanied by a trotting Maggie. She jogged across the road and parking area in front of the feed store, and up the steps to Burt.

“Hi,” she said and kissed Burt, then glanced at Horus. Maggie sniffed at his pant legs, looked at him, and slowly wagged her tail.

She wore a baseball cap, a red Yoga sports bra, gray sweatpants, and black running shoes. Her long dark brunette hair with blonde highlights was gathered in a pony tail that swung back and forth. Sweat beaded her face, arms, and torso. A pleasing mixture of sweat and patchouli perfume with a hint of rose petals drifted from her.

“My wife, Rachel.”

Horus, almost frowning, was staring at her. He finally said, “Mrs. Markham, a pleasure.”

“Rachel.” She smiled.

“Rachel,” he echoed.

Burt explained what Horus was looking for and her eyes brightened; she placed her stiletto nailed hands on her hips and studied the dusty corner. Her sweatpants were low on her hips, revealing a yin and yang tattoo on her lower back.

“Some kids from the school would jump at the chance to earn some money building the stand,” she said and looked over her shoulder at Burt. “Running the stand? I think the soccer team could do that. They can always use extra money.”

“Soccer team?” Horus asked.

Rachel grinned. “The Four Corners Rowdies. They’re pretty good too.” Horus grinned. “I used to be a soccer mom...”

Tossed overboard, Ava Adams had been left for dead, drifting at sea. But security specialist Faisal Al-Nassar was determined to find her. He owed her father a great debt and had never forgotten the connection he and Ava had once shared. Yet after rescuing Ava he discovered she barely remembered him.

Amnesia had left Ava uncertain of who had tried to kill her. She did know, however, that Faisal was a man she could trust. The sheik's embrace was familiar and enticing...and possibly even more dangerous. How could she succumb to feelings for her protector when what she didn't know could get them both killed?

Read an Excerpt:

Ben wasn’t sure how it had happened. But he’d gotten lucky and landed in the water. He’d just missed hitting his head on the way down. He’d seen Dan fall overboard but then he’d fallen over himself. It didn’t matter, he’d planned to swim to shore anyway. He’d shot Dan first and he’d gone over a dead man. The yacht was on autopilot, its navigational system dead, heading somewhere out to sea. In other circumstances he might have laughed. It would keep the authorities occupied trying to find the boat.

There was only one threat left and that was the little witch of a daughter Dan had managed to dump in the life raft. There’d been nothing he could do to stop him. It had all happened so fast. He felt a twinge of regret. Now Dan was gone and the yacht was already too far away to be a consideration. He’d raised the anchor before the altercation began.

He swam toward shore. He’d locked in his mind in what direction and how far away they had drifted. Yet the weather system was moving in faster than had been reported. It was a squall, and that and his aching shoulder had him gulping water and struggling as the weather worsened. Combine the weather with the fact his clothes weighed him down, and it was rough going. He reached down, wrestling with the laces of his oxfords, finally managing to get them off and tie them to the belt loop of his pants. It wasn’t supposed to go like this. He wished he hadn’t had to kill Dan, but once he’d made the decision, he’d accomplished what he meant to. He’d shot Dan and he’d fallen overboard. Now there was only one problem he had to resolve before he became a rich man. The one fly in the ointment was Dan’s daughter. She wasn’t supposed to be on the yacht. Yet, there she’d been like it was her right. He hadn’t liked her the first and only other time he’d met her.

She’d heard too much and she’d injured him. Neither offense could be forgiven. A wave pushed him backward and had him swallowing water. He choked and flipped onto his back, resting, thinking. He had to get to shore and then he had to find Ava Adams, and when he did, the little witch had to die.

The Vessel by Nancy Fraser

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Nancy Fraser will be awarding a $20 Amazon or Barnes and Noble GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour. Read our review of this story here.

Alora of Delawon is an alien princess who holds the key to the survival of mankind. With the women of the United Republic left barren by previous chemical warfare, Alora’s ability to bear humanoid children makes her the government’s most valuable commodity.

Together, Liam and Alora make the trek from the government’s safe house back toward the current capitol, fighting off raiders, survivalists, and an unexpected attraction to one another.

Will their desires put them in danger? Or, will their being together become more important than the mission?

Read an excerpt:

Liam McGregor crossed the embossed seal, pressed his hand to the encoded screen, and stepped into Cal Stewart’s office.

Cal, the leader of the military branch of the United Republic, sat behind a huge oak desk, his attention given to the older, rather gaunt-looking man who stood before him. Dressed in a dark, worn suit, his back bent with age, the man turned and raised his weathered gaze in Liam’s direction.

“Is this the guy?” the old man asked.

“Yes,” Cal confirmed. “Liam McGregor, this is John Barrow, Sciences Division Director. He’s come to request our help, and I’ve assured him you’re the best man for the job.”

Liam nodded. “What job would that be, sir?”

“Sit,” Barrow said, waving his hand in the direction of the nearby chair. “I have some background information to give you. It will explain everything, and define your part in saving mankind.”

“Mankind?” Liam repeated in question.

“Yes.” Cal’s response was filled with conviction. “Our future depends on a successful mission.”

Liam lowered himself into the closest chair, his focus on the strange man who’d sought him out. Barrow shuffled across the room and perched himself on the edge of Cal’s desk. He drew a long, ragged breath and began.

“A little over eight years ago, the government discovered a small group of women who possessed a rare DNA string and previously unknown blood type. A very valuable blood type.”

Liam cast a glance in Cal’s direction. “Valuable in what way?”

Cal lowered his gaze, his robust voice a mere whisper when he admitted, “It allows them to procreate. To carry on with life.”

Liam thought about the childless couples he knew, and of how they’d suffered with sterility as result of the chemical war of 2150. “So, you’re saying these women are resistant to the radiation that left the rest of the known world sterile?”

“Yes,” Barrow admitted.

Liam bit back a curse. “And, I assume, the government has kept these women under lock and key since then.”

Barrow shot Cal a grimace. “Something like that.”

A shiver made its way along Liam’s spine, a well-honed warning all was not what it seemed. “Perhaps, you can enlighten me a bit more. For the sake of my mission, of course.”

She stood in the middle of the boat, and he watched her eyes dance over his workmanship. He’d refinished all of the wood, stained and painted it, and worked his fingers to the bone, which he now realized he had done to work out his frustrations over his father’s drinking.

“Pete, this is stunning. It’s beautiful.”

“You’re stunning, Jenna. I don’t mean that as cheesy as it sounds.” He folded her into his arms and kissed the edge of her mouth. “You have the biggest heart of anyone I’ve ever known, and it comes through with everything you do and say.” He kissed her softly, loving the feel of her hands as they traveled up his chest, and he deepened the kiss. He pushed away the thoughts of his father and what the boat was supposed to signify and allowed himself to get lost in Jenna, in the taste of her lips as he dragged his tongue over the bow of her upper lip.

“Pete.”

She reached for him, her eyes full of pleasure and desire. Pete reveled in the sound of his name coming off her lips, and his heart swelled. He’d shared his most intimate secret with Jenna, and as he lowered his cheek to hers, he barely contained the three words that he wanted to say. Their relationship was years in the making, and there was no stopping his heart from pouring out, one word at a time. He had to tell her, had to let her know, even if he withheld the words he really wanted her to hear.

Daulphina’s father, the king of Asteria, has always wanted a male heir. Unfortunately for him, Daulphina’s magic means that will never happen unless her bastard half-brother displaces her on the throne. But she’ll take on all the gods herself before she lets that happen. He isn’t nice enough to be a good king.

But apparently, the gods don’t like being challenged because she’s flung across the void and into the dumpy old trailer and chiselled body of Joshua Killenyen, a rodeo bull rider from Alabama. With nothing to eat but Frosted Flakes and no knowledge how she got there, she better find a way home before she gets her head stomped in by the bulls she must ride. Or her brother will take the throne and reduce her people to slavery. Remember, he isn’t nice.

Read an Excerpt:

I dreamed I saw myself cowering in the corner of my bedroom, dressed only in my shift. Well, it looked like me with my long curly blonde hair and slight built, but somehow, I wasn’t inside the dream figure. I was watching as if it were a play. My eyes were wide and looking wildly around the room. The door opened, and my maid Sylvia came in. “Your Highness, what’s wrong?” she asked.

“I have boobs, that’s what’s wrong!”

By Cernuous, was I watching Joshua inhabiting my body?

Sylvia sighed. “Your Highness, I know things would have been easier for you if you had been born a man, but isn’t it time you dressed?” She held up one of my favorite green dresses. It had leaves and purple flowers embroidered around the edges.

Joshua put up his hands. “I ain’t wearing no dress! Oh, God, how did I get here? And where the hell is here? This sure as hell ain’t my trailer!” He looked around at the large canopy bed, its woodwork carved into a pattern of dragons; the two huge wardrobes with matching dragons on the doors; the ornate chairs covered in embroidered silk; and the marble fireplace. “Looks like some Louis XIV’s palace or something.”

Sylvia’s face creased with concern. “Your Highness, are you all right?”

He wrapped his arms around himself. “Hell no! Haven’t you heard what I’ve been saying? Somebody turned me into a woman!”

Sylvia set down the dress and felt his forehead. “You don’t feel like you have a fever, but . . . should I fetch a physician?”

“No, fetch whoever turned me into a goddamned woman and make him turn me back!”

About the Author:
Jamie began writing stories about the man from Mars when she was six, and she never remembers wanting to be anything other than a writer. Everyone told her she needed a back up plan, so she pursued a Ph.D. in American literature, which she received in 1998. She started teaching writing and literature at Auburn University. One day in the midst of writing a piece of literary criticism, she realized she’d put her true passion on the backburner and neglected her muse. The literary article went into the trash, and she began the book that was to become her first novel. She writes about the fantastic . . . and the tortured soul. Her poor characters have hard lives. She still teaches writing and literature at Auburn University. She is the mother of a grown son.

The Reluctant Debutante by Wendy May Andrews

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Wendy will be awarding $15 Amazon or B/N GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

The Duke of Wychwood seeks retribution from the Earl of Pickering. When he finds out the earl has a beautiful young niece, the duke thinks to involve her in his feud, but is shocked to discover he is attracted to her.

The orphaned niece of the earl, Lady Victoria, serves as governess to four of his children and is made to feel like an interloper in her own home. A chance encounter with the duke affords her the opportunity to enter Society, but to take it means risking what little security she has.

Revenge and love don't sit well together, to have a future can they learn to give up the past?

Read an excerpt:

chapter 3 – first sparks

Victoria was beginning to feel quite miserable. She was soaked from head to toe, most of her body immersed in the water. Her heavy skirts were feeling like lead weights as they pulled her towards the current. Her boots were slowly sinking into the sludge on the river bottom. And the gorgeous stranger was now looking at her appraisingly.

“Can you reach my hand?”

Victoria felt a shiver slither up her back at the sound of his deep voice as he leaned down for her.

Wishing there were some other way, Victoria looked at him then up and down the river once more. Unfortunately, the riverbanks had not changed in the last few minutes and there was still no way to get up the bank on her own. Turning back to the stranger, she gritted her teeth and stretched out her hand.

Bryghton was struck by the young woman’s beauty. Her remarkable eyes held so much expressive emotion. He could tell she was scared and embarrassed but she had the wit to realize she had little choice if she wished to be rescued from her precarious position. The duke knew that not too much farther downstream the river deepened considerably.

The feel of her cold little hand in his large, warm one sent a strange sensation through him, but he knew this was not the time to be distracted. Despite her slight frame, her soaking clothes were weighing her down considerably, and effort would be required to get her out. In a similar gesture to hers, he too gritted his teeth and yanked on her arm.

With a plop, and after a swift scrabble up the bank, Victoria landed on the edge of the river next to the impeccably dressed, handsome stranger. Blushing again, she offered a shy, hesitant smile as she pushed herself to a seated position.

Reyna needs her independence and reassurance that their feelings are real. Corbyn needs to keep her safe, and for Reyna to accept him as her mate once and for all. If only their enemies would give them a moment to sort out their relationship woes, but it seems their only interest is to tear the new Wolf King and his would-be Queen apart. With the clock ticking toward inevitable war, Corbyn's worst fears are realized when someone ups the ante, striking at his mate from the one place he never saw coming.

Frightened and angry, Corbyn rushes Reyna to the Elders, only to end up on their healing table next. After the back-to-back horrors, Reyna realizes she needs to make a crucial decision that will change their lives forever... and possibly save them. Fate decides to put that to the test immediately, drawing them right into enemy territory where Reyna will finally discover what's become of Jesse and gets an unexpected audience with real Úlfrinn royalty.

Just when it seems they've found solid footing at last, their world is shaken in a horrific homecoming of bloodshed and betrayal. Their greatest fears can no longer be ignored, as they find themselves facing the evidence of their arrival... along with a living Nightmare. Can Corbyn trust his Little Queen to make the right decision for herself and their entire pack, or will he lose everything he's ever loved in one fateful night?

Read an Excerpt:

“Reyna.” Benny nodded at her. “It was very nice meeting you. Let me know if you ever change your mind about sticking this man in a cage.”

She chuckled and accepted the partial embrace from the older man.

“Guess I better be on my best behavior,” Corbyn said.

“Oh, why ruin a good thing now?” Reyna sighed sweetly, causing Benny to laugh wholeheartedly.

“Damn good time to start, Bruschard!” he called after them.

Waving above his head as they walked away, Corbyn grinned at Reyna and pulled her closer to his side. Returning to the club was a pleasant relief, but heaven was found when they stepped out into the fresh afternoon air and the more tolerable noise of the city. Reyna inhaled deeply, closing her eyes to feel the warmth of the sun on her face. More heat enveloped her with the hand Corbyn used to cup her cheek. Backing her into the wall, he feasted on her mouth, his grip tightening possessively.

“A thousands times over, I will make that up to you, falleg,” he vowed. “I thought I lost you today. That wasn't how I wanted to show you how grateful I am that I didn't.”

“Corbyn, I'm the one who insisted on coming here,” she reminded him, blinking to clear her blurry vision.

“If I would've just told you the truth.” He shook his head.

“I still would've insisted, just to sate my curiosity,” she admitted.

Studying her face, Corbyn pressed a soft kiss to her lips again. “I have no idea how I got so damn lucky,” he confessed aloud.

“Oh, I'm only in it for the thousand-times-over repayment plan.” She smiled coyly.

Laughing, he kissed her loudly, almost playfully on the mouth, before his expression turned carnal. “Can I repay you in orgasms?”

“Absofreakinglutely!”

Are some obstacles too difficult for love to overcome?

For years, Melissa Hewitt has dreamed of being hunted by a panther, a huge, black creature that pursues her relentlessly. But panthers do not exist in real life – not in Canada, anyway. And it is in the Canadian Rockies that Melissa escapes the stresses of her work – a job that come with a handsome but unfriendly boss who exudes both danger and allure. There is something about Leander Garrett, however, that draws Melissa, making him almost impossible to ignore; that, and the fact that once they had been friends.

As winter turns into spring, Leander’s chilly demeanor begins to thaw, but danger prowls through the mountains, and Lee has a secret that lurks beneath his elegant clothes and rippling physique. Something that compels him to reject what he desires the most.

Can he learn to see the good in himself and finally allow his heart to love, and be loved in return?

A captivating paranormal romance, Moondance will keep you enthralled to the very last page.

Read an excerpt:

Darkness hung over the ground like a pall as Melissa stumbled blindly through the forest, lurching between shadowy trunks and swerving around bushes that seemed to materialize out of nowhere. Barbed branches clawed her face and arms, leaving angry welts in their wake. Protruding roots, intent on hindering her escape, sent her to her knees, leaving them scratched and bleeding. She gasped for breath as the blood pounded furiously in her ears while her chest burned with each breath. Sweat dripped down her forehead, covering her brow. Fear had slickened her palms, and her legs trembled as she careened between the trees. Behind her, her pursuer flew with seeming effortlessness over the ground, its enormous paws making no sound as it closed the gap between them. From the corner of her eye she saw the huge cat drawing alongside her, its bright green eyes shining eerily in the dark. Her foot caught the rough end of a stump, and she flung out her hands as she tumbled to the ground. The panther leaped toward her as her screams tore through the air.

Melissa jolted upright in her bed, her eyes wide as she searched her room in terror for the beast. Rigid fingers gripped the sheet, straining the fabric until it was close to ripping. Her heart hammered in her chest, the memory of reaching claws and hot breath on her neck still too close to dismiss. She loosened her hold on the sheet one aching finger at a time until it fell from her grip.

Read an excerpt:

Lizanne’s heart beat faster when the page loaded. LockupLink.com was a website for prisoners looking for pen pals. Free to Join! Connect with Lonely Single Inmates!

She couldn’t remember how or when the idea had first dawned on her—a Reader’s Digest article glanced at in the day room? Something on Maury Povich ages ago? But now, here it was, a practical and obvious solution.

In seconds, she was scrolling through listings of incarcerated men in Pennsylvania’s prisons. Her hand trembled over the mouse.

The ads were fascinating to read, and she poured over them, one after another. All pertinent information on each prisoner at her fingertips, his photograph, and a written greeting.

Some were murderers, others in for sexual assault, armed robbery, or drugs. It felt dangerous and wrong to look at some of the profiles. These were evil men, no denying it. But she found herself feeling sympathetic, and strangely turned on.

A lot of these desperados were very good looking, posing shirtless against a hand-painted mountain range, their bodies as fine and masculine as the models on the covers of her romance novels. They were heavily muscled and tattooed. Some guys smiled while others had tough, stiff expressions.

Her body felt a ticklish excitement as she browsed photos and read descriptions—all written with a strong undercurrent of wistfulness and remorse.

Lizanne felt powerful. In control. They all wanted her. They were practically begging for her companionship, like stray dogs in a kill shelter. If she didn’t like the looks of someone, or the tone in the description—click—and she was on to another.
