"Sheriff's Department! Raise your hands above your head and don't move."

She’s a runaway bride who left her two-timing fiance at the altar. He’s a county sheriff determined to keep the peace in his country and leave city girls alone after his own fiance left him for the bright lights of the city. Neither of them planned on running straight into each other...over a burning wedding dress.

Ellie and Lucas planned on never trusting their hearts to love again. When danger follows her from the city, the sheriff must do his duty to protect her. However, it isn’t long before he discovers the real danger may be to his heart. Ellie just might teach him that even a city girl can be a country girl at heart.

Read an excerpt:

She ventured a quick look but didn’t see a wedding ring. That meant nothing—many men didn’t wear rings. Her David would not have worn one either. He’d often said a ring would only get lost when he removed it to do surgery. The dark cloud of remembrance jolted her back to reality. Her job was done; she passed her patient over to the trauma team. There was no need for her to stay. With a last look at the man currently the focus of everyone’s attention, Mercy stepped outside the room. Her steps faltered as she realized that she’d automatically send a brief request on his behalf to whatever power the man might believe in; a request that the trauma specialists behind her would be able to use their combined expertise to keep him in this world for those who loved and needed him.

“Three minutes out. Descent begins in one.” The pilot’s voice crackled through the headset as he tossed a look over his shoulder to Mercy, strapped into the jump sear. She responded with a quick thumbs-up. “They’ve secured the scene,” he added. “We’re in and out fast. There’s only one to transport.” A dull, leaden weight sank to the pit of her stomach. Mercy Smith knew his words meant the other injured person had died before their arrival. “We can’t save them all, Mercy.” Paul Robards, the second medic onboard and seated across from her, responded to the shadowed look that crossed her face. “Some things are out of our control.”

Spicing Things Up by Judi Lynn - Guest Blog and Giveaway

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Judi will be awarding $20 Amazon or B/N GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

Five Things You Might Not Know About Judi Lynn

1. I love to cook. That’s why food always ends up in my romances, but when I married my husband, I’d never cooked anything. My mom—a Capricorn—was a bit of a dictator in the kitchen, and we weren’t allowed in her domain. She threatened us with wooden spoons if we got underfoot. And she had a mean swing. She made lots and lots of meals for friends and cooked more fried chicken on Sundays than any woman should have to. I remember her making a HUGE tray of deviled eggs for a big family holiday, and when she grabbed the plate, she was in a hurry. She whisked it to the table, and every egg hovered mid-air, then landed on the floor. She cried. My mom didn’t cry very often. It was pretty heartbreaking. We ate a lot of chicken and eggs when we were growing up, because my parents had a chicken coop at the back of our property. If I fed the chickens and gathered eggs every morning, my dad let me raise homing and tumbler pigeons. I know, not every girl’s dream, but some of my pigeons were so tame, that if I whistled on the back porch, they’d come to me and land on my shoulders. I thought I was in kid heaven.

2. I love kids. I taught elementary school for six years, and I had kids underfoot more often than not when I cooked. To me, food is a social event. Both of my daughters can whip up a mean feast when they’re in the mood. Our grandsons and my nurse daughter (a single mom) lived with us for many years, and the boys are good cooks, too. Tyler, 24, wanted to impress a girl who was a vegan and made a pureed butternut squash and coconut milk mac ‘n cheese for her. They might have gotten serious, but she had to move away for her job.

3. I broke my leg on June 17. I’ve stood on an oak rocking chair for YEARS to reach a high shelf. It wasn’t the rocking chair’s fault. I decided to get fancy and put a thick cushion on it—a cushion with no ties. I didn’t even think about it. It’s habit. I jumped on the chair, and the cushion slid right out from under my feet. It was an ugly break. I shattered and fractured the top of my tibia. I have metal pieces in my knee now. I had to go to therapy every day for three months. I’m still using a walker, or on good days, a cane. My therapist said it would probably be this August before I’m back to “normal.” The moral to my story? Take the time to get a good footstool. Don’t be impatient like me.

4. I’m a happy soul, but I’m only borderline social. I like people, but it takes a lot to motivate me to leave my house and be around them. I don’t make new friends easily, but the friends whom I have can’t be improved on. I’ve belonged to a writers’ club longer than I care to think about, and I have to tell you, writers make awesome BFFs. They might be quirky, but they’re empathetic.

5. I think of myself as a bit of a grump. My husband thinks I’m a cheerful optimist. I’m a Libra, so I’m probably a bit of both. I can always see how things could go wrong, but I’m also pretty sure that I can fix them. I just never expect much in life to be easy. If it’s something you’re passionate about, it’s going to take work. If you’re really passionate about it, the work and challenge are worth it. Life is choices. I just try to make the right ones.

Tyne Newsome promised to help Daphne Ferris pick up the pieces if her professor boyfriend dumped her. Tyne is a hottie chef with no intentions of committing to anyone. He has big plans for his future. Daphne owns a stained glass shop and spends most evenings eating dinner with her parents. She prefers safety and solitude, but Tyne keeps bumping her out of her usual routines. He's not someone she can ignore. And soon, they find that they complement each other so well, they're both pushed to places they've never been before.

Read an excerpt:

Miriam looked Tyne up and down. “So what’s the deal? Why are you pestering Daphne? Because if you’ve tagged her for sloppy seconds, I’ll tar and feather you and drive you out of town.”

A warrior. He grinned. He liked this woman more and more. “What are you, her protector?”

“Yes.” She crossed her arms. “The professor hurt her enough. I’m warning you off.”

“You’ve got it wrong. I don’t have to chase women. They chase me. I’m pestering Daphne because she’s a friend. I think the professor’s a dick, and I don’t want her to retreat back into her shell since he dumped her.”

Miriam’s eyes went wide. He doubted too many people surprised her, but he must have.

“So, you’re playing the Good Samaritan?”

“I don’t make a habit of it. And I’m not all that patient, but I thought I’d give it a shot.”

He watched Miriam’s right eyebrow rise. He knew that look. He was the recipient of it many times. “Are you a teacher?”

“That obvious? High school English. But don’t think I hide behind books. I intend to rattle Daphne’s cage, too. I don’t care if I end up single, living with cats, and talking to myself, but she will. She took a step. I want her to keep going.”

“So do I.”

Miriam nodded. “Good, then I don’t have to threaten you or hire someone to hurt you. You do your thing, and I’ll do mine, and hopefully, we’ll move Daphne in the right direction.”

A tax attorney with integrity...a powerful mobster determined to bend his will...

Grayson Bolt isn't about to compromise his integrity to help a notorious crime boss escape the cross-hairs of the IRS. But there's a steep price to pay for defying The Man--Grayson's beloved wife and older son.

There's only one way for Grayson to prevent his younger son, Jim, an innocent golf prodigy, from also being taken out: play a dangerous game of cat and mouse. And what will Jim be forced to do when the woman he loves gets ensnarled in a web of betrayal and deceit?

Read an excerpt:

“I’m afraid you’re going to get it hard, Mr. Bolt.” Costanzo had that fatherly tone of this will hurt me more than you. “Did you ever stop to think that there’s only one way of being dead, but many ways of dying?”

Grayson felt something cold touch his spine, all the way down. “I don’t follow.”

“Take your man Stockard. He killed two of your beloved family members, wife and eldest son. Isn’t that right?”

A strangling tightness gripped Grayson’s throat. “That— that’s right.”

“Wouldn’t you say a part of you died too?”

“What’s your point?” Grayson’s voice erupted in suppressed panic.

“You don’t have to die to feel dead. I’m going to kill your other son. That’ll be your punishment.”

The blood drained from Grayson’s face. Just like that. Most people held the basic principle that no man should be punished for the deed of another. Costanzo was not one of them. Grayson would be cut right to the bone, and his son would be the sharpest knife Costanzo could use. Costanzo had spelled out the thought in invisible brushstrokes. It was there and Grayson had tried not to see it.

After hiring on at Disney Studios as a film loader, he soon advanced and moved on to other film studios.

He earned a master’s degree in psychology. A big help when working with Trumpish Hollywood producers. You're fired!

During his more than twenty-five years in the movie business as a cameraman, film editor, and general manager, Bill worked on everything from the hilarious, The Love Bug, to the creepy, The Exorcist, to the far out, Star Trek and Battle Star Galactica.

Eight years ago, Bill switched from reading scripts to writing thriller/mysteries and driving racecars. After completing three award-winning novels, he signed with Black Opal Books. His first novel, The Devil Orders Takeout, is about a devoted father and husband who makes a deal with a real-life devil to protect his golf-prodigy son after his wife and older son are killed in a mysterious accident — and pays hell for it.

Bill’s second mystery, The Killer Who Hated Soup, is Book One in the 1950s The Killer Who series, and it launches this Summer. The Internet? Never heard of it. Smart phones? Who you kiddin’?

Energetic and eager to make his mark on what Time magazine called the next great boom town, Bucky Ontario leaves his daddy and little sister in Louisiana and rides a bus to Defiance, Oklahoma, a town not particularly adverse to murders, just the embarrassment of them when committed by high officials.

Book Two, The Killer who Wasn’t There, will be on bookshelves this fall.

Bill writes every day and golfs infrequently (that damn right knee!). His five children and eight grandchildren keep him busy going to birthday parties, and he never misses a one!

Far from the all the action of World War I, in a charming tourist’s spot on Cape Breton Island, Elizabeth Eames has stumbled into the most wonderful man in the world. She’s landed herself in a world where wealth reigns supreme; where any eligible bachelor would meet her mother’s highest aspirations. Of course, Elizabeth is dead set on the one she’s certain should not be mentioned in letters home.

Actually, there’s a lot she’s not mentioning. Something is not-quite-right at the grand resort Oceanside, but Elizabeth isn’t giving up her job on the basis of a few little suspicions. How likely could some monstrous crime be happening under her nose, anyway?

Read an exclusive excerpt:

Thistle dove bow-first into the heart of a white-capped wave. Foaming water rushed down from the transom, straight over the cockpit and straight over me, clutching the wheel.

“Steady,” Michelson, momentary captain, as it were, shouted over the howl of the wind. Calm, and utterly in command.

I gasped, drenched and freezing, but didn’t respond. Steady was simply impossible! Mr. Michelson might act like we were a young couple out for a jaunt around the bay, but I was not used to screaming up and down monstrous, white-crested waves. I white-knuckled the argumentative wheel of the sailboat to keep our course.

About the Author:
“Born in the sight of water,” are old lyrics that speak for me: For those of us from coastal towns, the sea forever calls.

“Trouble Cove,” features a journey up the eastern coast of Cape Breton Island – Nova Scotia’s northern tip – and the sea, in this, is more than the most romantic of backdrops. Wind and wave become part of the tale.

Like so many who have once visited Nova Scotia, the memory of iits rugged beauty fills me with an endless desire to return. Likewise, the island’s siren song entwines the plot, throughout; Trouble Cove.

A war on vice In Washington, DC—a city constantly awash in scandals? Hard to believe, but it really happened. Only not exactly the way it’s told here.

All Mattie Simon knows is that she wants adventure and her hometown doesn’t have any. She wants independence, maybe some romance. All Andrew Stevens wants is to do his job as a newly-elected congressman.

But Washington has a way of changing people—even when they get what they want.

Fast-paced and funny, The Call House takes you back to a time of relative innocence, when people flocked to the nation’s capital to do good works and instead got caught up in sex, money, and politics. What else would you expect?

Read an excerpt:

BETTY Prince gently tugged on the frayed cord from the Venetian blinds. If she pulled too hard, the blinds would slip off their brackets and crash to the floor, startling the Congressman awake. She only wanted to let in the sunlight, to let Congressman Stevens know his long night of working in his office was over. It was the third time this week she’d found him asleep on that cracked leather couch. He was working too hard.

Andrew Stevens kept his eyes shut against the sun. He could feel the stiffness in his neck from sleeping without a pillow. His legs felt tight from trying to fit his six-foot-two-inch frame onto a couch four inches too short. He could tell he needed a shower. But he wasn’t ready to face the day and he wasn’t ready for another one of Betty’s lectures. She meant well, but the last thing he needed in Washington was another woman watching over him.

Too many of his colleagues’ wives had already overwhelmed him with kindness. His small refrigerator held more casseroles, more congealing dishes of Welsh rarebit, than he could eat in a month. Plus, all the dinner invitations. Always to meet some eligible niece in town visiting. Some dear female friend.

The wives embarrassed him by saying they were sure he’d be one of the brightest stars in Congress. They insisted he needed a good woman behind him to help him get ahead. His own mother, back home in Michigan, wrote him weekly to say the same thing.

From the Author

I've been writing all my life.

When I first heard the story about the best-known, high-priced call house on the East Coast located right in the middle of a nice residential neighborhood - I was intrigued. I'm still not sure why. Even after spending a few years researching and many more years writing. Maybe it's the idea of having something sort of shady going on right down the street and none of the neighbors had the faintest idea. (Warning: No sex or even steamy scenes)

War. It’s here. The last war of mankind. The winner takes Earth as its prize.

My name is Alana Devereaux. I am an elite Cantati Forces Lieutenant from Earth’s desolate future. I was sent back through time to save your world. My mission to stop the Mutari faltered. Demons infiltrated our world when the walls between Earth and Infernus fell. Millions died in the first volleys.

The Mutari changed me on an elemental level and my new powers scare the bloody daylights out of me. Formorian Hunters are closing in on my trail with a singular goal, to enact the death warrant placed on my head by their Queen. Now I am running for my life, on a quest to discover a way to kill an immortal on a power trip, stuck between mortal enemies, and everyone else wants me dead.

Read an Excerpt:

In the twenty-four hours since the Mutari, Gaelen, my sexy Fae prince partner with the body of a god and the attitude of an angry bear, had dragged my prone form all over the world searching for a safe haven. We found one at the edge of frozen tundra as far north as we dared go.

As if my mind conjured him, Gaelen slid his strong muscular arms around my belly, pulling up the confines of his black T-shirt I had slept in.

“Why aren’t you in bed?” Gaelen’s deep voice rumbled low next to my ear as he nuzzled my neck. His softer-than silk blond hair wafted against my cheek, while his hands caressed my flesh.

“Can’t sleep, but you go ahead.” I bit my lip, trying to keep the moan from escaping. His teeth teased the sensitive skin below my right ear. My eyes slid shut, thrilling at the feel of his shadow beard as it grazed my neck. Tendrils of desire scorched a path wherever he touched. The man was a drug to my senses, a drug I wanted to imbibe, overindulge in, again and again until we were both spent.

We had not exchanged any words regarding our feelings toward each other. Put in perspective, none were needed. He showed me that I mattered, gave up his world for me, defied his mother with his go-fuck-yourself attitude that I’d come to admire.

“Come, shower with me, cara,” he murmured in a deep, lust-soaked voice that made my body zing to life. His hands cupped my breasts, and moisture flooded my center. The roughened pads of his fingers grazed my nipples, sending currents of delicious need thrumming into my core. The man touched me, and I was lost. Who was I kidding? When the damn man looked at me with those come-hither crystalline green eyes smoldering with indecent passion, I practically came on the spot. His hands stroked my flesh. The rational part of my brain, the one not attuned to satiating my hunger for him, knew I had to stop him.

My body yearned to acquiesce to his passionate demands. Except I couldn’t. Why did I always complicate things further? Instead of enjoying what he so readily offered, I let words of refusal leave my lips before my brain could retract them. “I’m sorry, I’m not feeling well. Can I have a rain check, though?”

About the Author:

She remembers her mother saying if only she would read the right type of books instead binging her way through the romance aisles at the bookstore, she’d have been a doctor. While Maggie never did get that doctorate, she graduated cum laude from the University of Missouri-St. Louis with an M.A. in History.

Maggie is a bestselling and award-winning author published in multiple fiction genres. She also writes erotic romance under the name Anya Summers. Five Things You Might Not Know About Ellis Morning

Hi, and thanks for having me over again! It’s great to be here. Let’s see, what 5 things can I share with you this time? :)

1. I’m naturally anxious and shy, and I hate making phone calls—but if my sense of justice is wronged, all that goes out the window. I’ll gladly track down whomever I have to and get the problem resolved! But I’m not a jerk about it. I worked retail and customer service for most of my corporate tenure, so I’m well aware that being patient and considerate makes all the difference in the world.

2. I got my first smartphone last year, and I still barely use it. Phone calls and texts, photos, occasionally driving directions, and that’s all. If my carrier hadn’t made my old brick phone obsolete, I’d probably still be using it!

3. I accidentally gave myself a graphite tattoo in high school when I knelt to pick up a pencil, only to have said pencil stab into my leg. The mark is still on my shin, close to my ankle.

4. My bachelor’s degree is in Computer Science and Business Administration. I can program computers and fill out balance sheets. ;)

5. Along with German, I know small amounts of Farsi, Spanish, and Japanese. I can also pick out some names and words within Egyptian hieroglyphs. Currently, I’m tempted to pick up some Latin (for studying ancient Rome) and Dutch (which should be easy since I already have German and English!).

Thanks for reading! Feel free to post a comment or question, or read more at my blog.

The Quest Continues To Stop A Killer "Curse!"

Dame Jessamine is a knight errant with a spaceship for a steed, a woman of science in a galaxy rife with superstition. Follow along as she continues her mission for truth within the barony of Nidaros!

A mysterious crop-withering blight spreads through the barony's soil. The court magicians have blamed two siblings of spawning the crisis through witchcraft. Convinced of their innocence, Jessamine has rescued and now secretly harbors Verahl Naustvik aboard her spaceship. Meanwhile, his sister Thordia flees to the Harbinger, a crashed space station from the distant and more enlightened past.

Approaching the Harbinger is an act punishable by death, but Jessamine won't let that stand in the way of a second rescue. Thordia, and the Harbinger's surviving technological secrets, may be Nidaros' only hope against the blight. Jessamine prepares to embark—only to be betrayed and set upon by vengeful court magicians.

Now, one wrong word or gesture will lead to deadly charges of witchcraft. Jessamine must protect the Naustviks and brave the Harbinger, all while striking a balance between ritual and reason. If she can't maintain the peace long enough to discover a cure for the blight, the entire barony will starve—unless its far-off masters decide to "restore order" with military action first!

Harbingers is Book Two of the Sword and Starship series of science fiction/fantasy adventure.

Read an Excerpt:

Minutes after I’d fallen asleep—or so it seemed—distant, unsettling noises nagged me from the fringe of consciousness. Crashes of wood on wood, doors opening and closing, agitated voices.

“We have a right to our prisoner!”

“‘Prisoner’ now? Whose word is that, yours or Ormyr’s?”

“Adept Knorr’s blood is on her hands!”

“Then mayhap he shouldn’t have tried to kill her. What do ye want from us, anyway? She’s not here.”

“Impossible! We’re not leaving until we’ve searched everywhere.”

“Captain? Captain!”

The voices became louder and more spiteful with each volley. Then came a series of sharp, desperate taps that were louder still, practically in my ear.

“Sister? Sister!” a hushed voice pleaded.

Sigrid?

I flew up to a seated position and opened my eyes. My hair, loose from its braid, fell around my shoulders. This was still my room in the barracks. Ahead, the door stood closed. Behind, early sunlight peeked through the slats of the shuttered window beside my pallet.

The tapping returned, followed by rattling. Someone outside the window was testing the shutter. “Sister, come out here. Hurry!”

A large object, like a table or chest, crashed to the floor just outside my room.

I gasped. Someone, probably an adept, was tossing the barracks in search of me. And Sigrid was—wait, how the hell had Sigrid broken out of her room? Hadn’t Ingvar locked her in? My own window’s shutter looked sturdy, but not indestructible. She must’ve busted out that way—just like I’d have to if I wanted to escape.

About the Author:
Ellis has always loved staging adventures in her head before going to sleep each night. When she was twelve, she started putting these adventures on paper.

For the next twenty years, she wrote with varying degrees of seriousness, but always as a hobby. In that time, she fell in love with Mark Twain and Kurt Vonnegut, the original Star Trek series, and Mystery Science Theater 3000. Science fiction became her favorite domain to work in, but she also enjoyed reading fantasy, horror, Western, and detective stories, and incorporating their elements into her work. One of her favorite things to do was make people laugh.

Ellis denied being a writer for decades. But then she sold articles to The Daily WTF, and a short story to Analog Science Fiction and Fact. After quitting her full-time job to finish her first novel, it was time to own up to writing as her calling. She's currently an editor at The Daily WTF, and having the time of her life penning novels and short stories.

A passionate professor. A smitten student. An attraction that cannot be denied.

Amanda Slade has a major crush on her sexy art professor and wants his help with an important extracurricular activity: Project VirgEnd.

Professor Jem Nichols knows falling for his beautiful student is a bad idea but he just can't say goodbye as the semester ends. But the professor refuses to hastily take her virtue. Instead, he wants to slowly teach her the most important lessons of lovemaking. As she experiences first-time pleasures and passions, love blooms.

By the time they're done, he'll know every inch of her body. But as her deadline for deflowerment looms, will the professor be the one to take Amanda all the way? This is a sweet yet steamy love story.

Read an excerpt:

Amanda’s First Experience with an Art Model
By A.C. Rose ©2017

I was in the front row of the class in my usual seat, when a gorgeous, robed man walked into the art classroom, stood on a small platform, untied the sash to his robe and let it fall on the floor. He was naked.

Turning to take an innocent glance at the model, I nearly gasped out loud when I found myself eyeball to eyeball with his penis. He seemed so unashamed, so unaffected, as he stood there gazing out at all who studied his naked form.

I looked at my friend Tara and she looked at me. It was the tenth week of the semester in our Basic Art course, but we had no clue what was going on until the professor stepped in front of the room.

“Today we’ll be working with a live nude model so we can learn to translate the human form to paper,” he announced. “We’ll be working with charcoal, so remember, we’re looking for the essence of the human body—the shape, not details.”

With that, Professor Jem Nichols passed around the box of charcoal crayons and handed out huge sheets of drawing paper. As he got closer to me, a rush of warmth flowed through my body and ended in a nervous tingle in my stomach.

Maybe it was wishful thinking, but when he reached my desk to distribute the supplies, I could swear his hand lingered an extra moment near mine as I claimed my two pieces of charcoal from the box. And that he looked at me a certain way.

When he moved on to the next student, I breathed a sigh of relief, only because I worried my physical reactions to his presence would reveal I had a crush—a big one—on my teacher.

When graduate student Katherine Brenner walked into my class, I couldn’t stand her—all perfect skin and big, blue eyes—just like the woman who broke my heart.

If it wasn’t for that blizzard, if her car hadn’t broken down outside my house, if she hadn’t looked amazing by the firelight, I never would have kissed her. No matter how hard I try, every excuse I make not to see her comes up flat.

I can’t stop thinking of her lips. Or the way her curves fit perfectly in my hands. There’s a million reasons why this won’t work. I’m her professor. It’s against university policy.

And if this gets out, I could lose everything.

Read an Excerpt:

I’m melting into him. For the first time, I’m not fighting against Drew Markham. I’m moving toward him, with him. It happens slowly for the first few seconds as we’re hesitant in our actions and unsure of one another’s intentions. But somewhere within those inches we both draw the same conclusion. I lurch toward him and he catches me in his arms, both of us falling backward onto the couch. Our lips connect with a ferocity that is jarring.

My hands are under his shirt, feeling the smooth plane of his back, absorbing his warmth through my skin. We’re both gasping and panting, pushing and pulling. And then he stops. I nearly fall off the couch when I no longer have the resistance of his body to push against. I pull back and look up at him, confused.

“W-what? What is it?”

His eyes are closed and he’s shaking his head. His face is a mask of regret.

“Drew?”

“I can’t. I’m sorry, Katherine. You…me…”

He gestures toward the four empty bottles of wine on the coffee table. “We’ve both had way too much. You’re still not a hundred percent well. I’m your professor. You’re my student. There are a million different reasons why we need to stop this. Why I need to stop this. Right now. Right. Now.”

I take a deep breath and extricate myself from what’s left of his embrace.

“I don’t know where that came from,” he’s muttering, more to himself, than to me. “What’s wrong with me? I know better.”

With a sigh, I wonder the same thing about myself. We hate one another. Don’t we? Apparently not. But even I, with my limited knowledge of psychology, recognize that there’s a very fine line between love and hate. Not that I love him or anything. But I certainly wouldn’t mind another one of those kisses.

A Step Beyond by John Molik - Spotlight and Giveaway

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. John Molik will be awarding a $10 Amazon or Barnes and Noble GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

Dr. Brigitte Sheen, an ambitious scientist, and her colleague develop a gene therapy system to extend human life spans. Money owed by a Chinese investment conglomerate for bearer bonds taken from the shadow government known as the Horsemen never gets paid—but for good reason. The Chinese want the anti-aging system, but so do the Horsemen. In a fierce battle of East versus West, the future of mankind is at stake. Pursued by a crazed super soldier with enhanced physical abilities, Dr. Sheen, with help from her husband, Jeremy Hughes, Nikita Patel, and others, must overcome dark intentions of unseen powers... But are those intentions really that evil?

Read an excerpt:

Nikita saw her opportunity. “Now, I’m going to take you to the passenger side. If you yell, speak, or make ugly faces or anything, I will cut you. Do you understand?”

Liwei was shaking, but nodded his head rapidly.

Once he was in the car, Nikita still had the nasty, tactical knife in an icepick grip pointed toward his chest. “One bad move and you’re dead. Do you understand?”

He nodded.

“Keys!” she shouted.

Liwei reached into his coat pocket and gave her the switchblade key device. She started the C300 and proceeded out the garage and onto the busy streets of Shenzhen city.

With the hum of the 241-horsepower turbocharged engine accelerating up Beihuan Avenue, Nikita told Liwei that she had no intention of harming him if he cooperated. She explained that all she wanted was what was rightfully hers—the $33 million for the bearer bonds. He told her that they were worthless, but she countered his claims with the information she had received from “some higher ups” in Washington. He shook his head and mumbled things like, “this is all a mistake” or “we need deeper understanding” and other ambiguous statements.

At the Fuxiwong Budget Hotel, Nikita led Liwei through the lobby. There were numerous dingdong xiaojie, or what is referred to in English as “hotel girls.” These prostitutes rent themselves rooms in hotels and seek potential clients among male guests. If a “John” shows interest, the girl simply comes to his room and knocks on the door or presses the doorbell, hence the name “ding dong” girls.

As usual, no one was at reception. Leading him up the stairway and down the hall to her room at the end, Nikita kept her head down and play-acted her role as the baopo. Opening the door, she sat him down on the ground near the window.

“Strip!” she insisted while standing strong and holding the knife in a most menacing manner.

Liwei looked confused, muttered something and shook his head.

“You heard me. Shirt—off! Trousers—down!”

He slowly picked up on the highly-accented and strange words that Nikita used in her attempt at speaking the local dialect. He smiled and became cheeky. “You want to have good time?”

“In your dreams,” replied Nikita, yet the words she mistakenly used were, “In your nightmares.”

Liwei had a chagrined expression. With a quick nod of his head, he stood up. Carefully keeping eye contact with Nikita he slowly unbuttoned his shirt, then stopped.

She pointed to his legs. “Trousers!”

He nodded in acquiescence, and with some hesitation began unbuttoning his pants. Standing there with just his briefs on and his trousers down around his ankles, he appeared despondent.

Nikita walked over to him and pointed down at his pants. “Toss them to me.” Again, in her version, the words came out. “Throw them away.” Liwei looked confused, so she gestured clearly what to do with them. He understood and tossed them to her. Nikita rummaged through them, picking out his cellphone, wallet, and a few coins that were in his pocket. Checking the shirt, she found nothing but his gold business card case, which she threw on the bed. Finally, she patted him down around his ankles to check for a shank or any other weapon.

Grabbing the handcuffs out of her travel bag, she attached one end to his right wrist and the other to the dull-yellow-painted iron radiator attached to the wall. “Sit here. I’m getting something to eat. Do you like cha siu bao?”

He nodded with his head down. Looking up, he said, “If you unlatch me, I will text my assistant, Mr. Xi Luo, to bring the money. I won’t go anywhere. Honest. Anything you want. Please. Let me go.”

With a hands-on-her-hips power gesture, she shook her head and laughed. “Fat chance, Liwei.”

Life doesn't always go as planned; sometimes it goes better. Callie Green thought her life was planned out until her fiance leaves her at the altar, upending her perfect plans. She is spiraling out of control when she meets JD, a man who offers a love she has never known, but she is too blinded to see it. When she realizes JD is what she has been missing, she has no way to find him. All she can do is pray and hope that God sends him back to her.

Read an excerpt:

“What’ll you have?”

The voice was deep and masculine, and as I turned to find the man who owned it, a small gasp escaped my lips. Broad shoulders tanned by the sun stood out against his cream tank top, and dark brown hair fell in waves to about his chin. He was the most handsome man I had ever seen, but it was his piercing green eyes I couldn’t seem to look away from. He stared at me expectantly, an empty glass in his hand as he waited for my order.

“Uh, tequila sunrise,” I stammered as the blush climbed my cheeks. Had he heard my gasp? I tried to look away, but his gaze was a magnet drawing my eyes back to him.

“Tequila, huh?” His lips pulled into a smile revealing perfectly white teeth, and my heart fluttered in my chest.

“It’s my weakness.” My lips parted, and my tongue darted across her bottom lip. I wondered how his lips would feel against mine. Apparently, he was a weakness for me as well.

“In that case, how about a double shot?” The wink he flashed solidified the notion he was flirting with me, but I couldn’t tell whether it was because he liked me or because it was part of the job description.

“Sure.” My heartbeat magnified in my ears, and despite his magnetic pull, I forced my attention away from the bartender and back to the crowd, hoping to hide the red on my face. Though the bartender was easily the most handsome man there, several other nice looking gentlemen filled the area. Most appeared to be chatting with women, but one man sat alone, tapping at his laptop and nursing a beer.

Daughter of Aithne by Karin Rita Gastreich

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Karin will be awarding a $10 Amazon or B/N GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.
Betrayed by her own prodigy, Eolyn stands accused of treason. As power-hungry nobles dismantle her life's work and honor, the desperate queen forges a risky alliance with the ruthless and cunning Mage Corey. Determined to defend her son's claim to the throne of the Mage King, Eolyn prepares for her last and greatest battle, this time against her own sisters in magic.

Across the Furma River, Taesara of Roenfyn is drawn out of seclusion and into an ever-more vicious game of intrigue and war. Subject to the schemes of a shrewd uncle and the mysterious ambitions of the wizards of Galia, Taesara struggles to assert her own destiny, even as she takes up arms to defend her daughter's inheritance.

In the climactic finale to The Silver Web trilogy, threads of love, honor, betrayal, and vengeance culminate in a violent conflict between powerful women, opposed to each other yet destined to shatter a thousand-year cycle of war.

"A tale of female oppression, prejudice, and even deadly seduction, EOLYN touches on issues that are deeply relevant to our own society." -Apex Reviews review of EOLYN, Book One of the Silver Web

“The story's greatest triumph is Gastreich's prose, a consistent blend of lyrical verse and dark imageray....Lush, evocative descriptions carry readers through an unforgettable journey.” –Kirkus Reviews review of SWORD OF SHADOWS, Book Two of The Silver Web”

Read an excerpt:

“Speak plainly, my Lord King,” Eolyn said. “I will not be subject to this cat-and-mouse game. If you do not trust me, if you do not believe me, then say so.”

“I trust your heart, Eolyn,” Akmael replied, “but your heart has led you to ill-advised decisions in the past. For this reason, I am not always inclined to trust your judgment.”

“For the love of the Gods! I am not the confused and frightened girl I was when my brother took up arms against you.”

“No, but you must understand the dilemma you have put me in.”

“The dilemma I have put you in?”

“If you knew of Ghemena’s plan and did not inform me, you were party to treason. If you did not know, then your authority over the magas is uncertain. Either way, the magas must remain bound and imprisoned until this conflict is resolved.”

Eolyn blinked and stepped away. “The magas have lived in peace in MoisehĂ©n for more than a decade. You cannot let the action of one woman—”

“Three women. The blatantly treasonous act of three women, all devoted students of yours. They have brought war upon us, Eolyn. Who knows how many others among your followers support them?”

“The magas who remain in my service have done nothing to merit suspicion.”

“All magas merit suspicion.” Akmael hesitated at her stricken look. He let go a slow breath and softened his tone. “There is a history here that we have not yet overcome, Eolyn. You, of all people, must understand that. Too many of our subjects still remember the war against my father.”

“And the purges that followed?” she shot back.

“The violence that tore this kingdom apart,” he conceded. “Right or wrong, the magas were left with the blame. We must manage this situation carefully, to protect you and your daughters. To see that justice is done.”

The Flip by Michael Phillip Cash

Five Things You Might Not Know About Michael Phillip Cash

1. My name is Michael Okon and I used to write under the pen name Michael Phillip Cash. I just signed a two-book deal with WordFire Press to publish my novels Monsterland 1 & 2 at the end of 2017.

2. I have a film agent who is shopping around the manuscripts for a film deal. (Just writing that gives me goosebumps).

3. I haven’t eaten bread, rice, pasta or potatoes in 5 years. I have reclaimed my health by going completely zero carb.

4. I research and develop my stories and characters every day. At night, after the wife and kids go to sleep I write my book until the eyes go. I write like this every single day.

5. When I was 19 years old I was driving to pick up this girl I was dating. We had tickets to see Van Halen at Jones Beach. While I was driving, a horse came galloping out of the woods and I hit it head on. It’s OK, the horse was fine, but man that was scary.

Julie and Brad Evans are house flippers. They buy low, clean out the old occupants junk, and try to make a profit. Enter Hemmings House on Bedlam Street in scenic Cold Spring Harbor, Long Island. Too good a deal to pass up, but with an ominous secret. The old Victorian Mansion has dwellers that do not want to be dispossessed. As the house reveals its past, will the couple's marriage survive The Flip?

Read an excerpt:

Julie started demolition on a bathroom in one of the many bedrooms. She needed to lose herself in some work. She was losing her mind. Images of last night with her husband played like a movie in her head. The bodies were familiar, yet at the same time, they were not. The whole episode had a dreamlike quality, and for now, Julie wasn’t sure what part of what they had done was real or from her imagination. It was better to keep busy, think about things to keep her occupied, so her head wouldn’t explode.

She trudged upstairs and started working in the first of the guest bedrooms. It was an en suite, perfect for a bed-and breakfast. Why couldn’t Brad see that? she wondered. She lifted out the toilet, carefully pulled a rusty medicine cabinet from the wall, and started chopping at tiles on the floor, both of her tiny hands whacking away with a giant mallet. They had decided that nothing was salvageable in this bath. She dragged the fixtures out of the small bathroom to a cleared corner in the bedroom. It was hot. Sweat trickled down her back. She was wearing an oversized T-shirt and yoga pants from Target. She fanned herself, smiling when she thought of the pretty ladies’ fan in her makeshift bedroom. Julie went to the window. The trees surrounding the house were painted amber, red, and yellow. A breeze ruffled the branches, and Julie wanted to air out the stuffy room.

Rachel Kauffman and Jarred Zimmerman seem to have nothing in common. She's the outgoing youngest of a large, close-knit Amish clan, while Jarred is a young veterinarian who trusts the animals he heals far more than he trusts people. However, when Rachel's horse falls ill, Jarred's struggles to save him show Rachel he's a man who cares deeply. And the respect he feels for her gentle warmhearted ways soon becomes an irresistible bond. When Rachel tries to help Jarred reunite with his parents, it's an unexpected blessing..with one complication. If he takes this chance to put his past to rest, it could separate him and Rachel for good. Now, with prayer, love...and her hope chest's small miracles, Jarred and Rachel must find the courage to reconcile their wishes into a joyous life together.

Read an excerpt:

After finishing her chores, Rachel bounded through the open doors and shouted, “Old Sam!”

He looked up from his workbench and smiled. “Rachel, I was wondering how you were. I haven’t seen you for awhile.”

She plopped herself down into the chair opposite him and caught her breath, pushing some loose hairs back under her kapp.

“What’s on your mind?”

She launched into an explanation of her dilemma. As she did so, Buddy whined for her attention, making himself comfortable on her shoes. Automatically, she stroked the canine’s head.

As she related the brief contents of Jarred’s letter, her heart pumped faster to keep up with her desperate words, which started to run together. When she’d finished, she said, “Old Sam, you’ve got to help me. I don’t know what to do.”

“He’s back.”

Words Macy Donovan hoped to never hear.

Trace Cartwright was the maverick rodeo cowboy who broke her heart, leaving her on the steps of the church on the eve of their wedding. Now he's returned to build his home and to lay claim to her heart ... again. Macy barely survived the broken heart the first time. Does he think he can walk back into her life and take up where he left off?

Enjoy an Excerpt

All that from just a glance? It was only a swift glimpse, but Macy didn’t need more. The broad shoulders and lean hips hadn’t changed…and neither had the cocky set of the black Stetson. The man was more than a head taller than anyone around him; his straight-backed stature was a distinctive Cartwright trait, as were the green eyes inherited from his Irish mother. Macy couldn’t see his eyes from that distance, but she didn’t need to. They were forever etched in her memory. Wiping first one sweaty palm and then the other on the legs of her jeans, she increased her grip on the steering wheel while her insides continued their gymnastics.

About the Author:
Born and raised in the Lone Star state of Texas, Debra grew up among horses, cowboys, wide open spaces, and real Texas Rangers. Pride in her state and ancestry knows no bounds and it is these heroes and heroines she loves to write about the most. She also draws upon a variety of life experiences including working with abused children, caring for baby animals at a major zoo, and planning high-end weddings (ah, romance!).

When she isn’t busy writing about tall Texans and feisty heroines, she can be found cheering on her Texas Tech Red Raiders, or heading off on another cruise adventure. She read her first romance...Janet Dailey's Fiesta San Antonio, over thirty years ago and became hooked on the genre. Writing contemporary romances, is both her passion and dream come true, and she hopes her books will bring smiles...and sighs...to all who believe in happily-ever-after’s.

Five Things You’d Probably Never Guess About Me

I’m a Texas Hold’em Poker Addict
When I lived in the city I was a member of this fabulous poker group. It was made up of ten women, gorgeous, hardworking and loads of fun. The ten of us met monthly, and spent the evening, gabbing, drinking plenty of wine, and playing Texas Hold’em Poker. This went on for several years and most of us became accomplished players. I love the game as much as I love these ladies. It is one of the only things I still miss about living in the city.

I Plot in the Form of Dialogue.
When it comes to writing, I’m a serious plotter and planner. I write detailed outlines, and crazily, fill them with reams of dialogue. Yep, the voices of my characters fill my head and won’t keep quiet until I tap out what they have to say on my laptop. I plan each and every scene before I get down to the real business of writing. The good thing is, most of my dialogue is written, so all I have to do is flesh out the scenes. But the odd thing is, in the middle of writing a scene, a character can stop talking before the scene is finished. Or won’t talk at all. Instead of freaking out, I make efficient use of Cut & Paste, and plop the misbehaving piece of dialogue or section of scene, elsewhere. The spooky thing is, the change is invariably for the better!

I’m Geographically Challenged!

I’m considered a fairly intelligent person and I have an above average IQ, but when it comes to finding my way from one place to another, I’m geographically challenged. I’m not kidding. I get lost in my own back yard. When people try to give me directions on how to get some place, they might as well be talking another language for all the sense it makes to me. The funniest thing is, the more I try and explain this, the more directions they give me, insistent that it’s easy. In the end, I nod and smile, and everything they’re saying floats over my head. Thanks goodness for the arrival of the GPS!

I Like to Meditate
Five years ago I booked a holiday in the rainforests of Thailand. In my excited rush to take advantage of a special promotion, I didn’t realize it was a silent Vipassana Retreat with several hours of strictly scheduled meditation per day. What a shock! But the unexpected can lead us down paths that change our lives in profound ways. After days of meditation, and listening to the song of the gibbons float from the nearby jungle over the lake, my mind stilled. And in this silence I found a clarity of thought hidden from me my whole life. I still meditate today. It keeps me grounded, and forever reminds me of the unique experience gifted to me in the depths of the Thai jungle.

I’m a Sushi Fiend

Another thing I miss from the city are my secret visits to my local Yo Sushi. I loved sneaking out with my kindle, finding a corner table where nobody could accidentally catch sight of me and crash my party for one. I’d order salmon sashimi, avo maki, edamame beans…and a glass of chardonnay. And then a second glass. A good book, a wine buzz, and delicious sushi…my idea of heaven. Or at least one of them!

Chased by her criminal kingpin father, Katya Dalca runs to New Orleans and straight into the arms of Luke Hunter. Sucked into the carnal world of the French Quarter, she succumbs to Luke’s potent sexuality. He not only steals her breath, he steals her heart and the only leverage she has against her father. She is left with no choice except to pick up the pieces and rebuild her life alone.

Undercover DEA agent Luke Hunter thought his newest assignment—recover a stolen flash drive to gain the trust of the Russian mob—was like any other. But his target brings him to his knees, and after one taste of her intoxicating beauty, he's in too deep. Doing his job means walking away, leaving his heart behind with nothing but a promise to reunite. It's a promise he can't keep.

When Katya's past reaches out and her world unravels, her only hope is the one man she is most vulnerable to—Luke.

Read an excerpt:

We pulled into the underground parking at King Security and Luke parked the SUV in line with several other huge black Ford Expeditions. It appeared King Security had its own fleet.

Unable to stop myself, I blurted, “You were with Anna when you were undercover with my father, weren’t you?”

Luke pulled the keys from the ignition. In the deafening silence I didn’t think he was going to answer. Then he turned to me and bit out. “Yes!”

Wow! I didn’t expect him to be so honest. I sat back and folded my arms, tight. Damn, his answer hurt me. “So you make a habit of lying to your women? Being with them while you’re pretending to be someone you’re not? Is that your thing?”

“She wasn’t my woman,” Luke growled. “She was just a woman. She was there, I was there. It was never deep and it sure as hell wasn’t forever. Then it was over, and I made certain she was clear of the investigation. That was it.” He leaned towards me and said impatiently, “That tell you what you want to know?”

“Not even close. You made love to her didn’t you?”

“Hell no!” Luke snarled. “I fucked her. Like I have all the other women in my life. There’s only one woman I ever made love to Katya. And that was you.”

I went rigid, stunned into silence. Luke turned to open his car door. “You didn’t make love to me, Michael did,” I whispered.
