Sometimes coming home opens the door to discovering something new.

After Coach Diaz’s funeral, Alex Burke realized there was nothing left for him in Boston, especially after he found out his girlfriend had moved on. Moving back to Colorado, and bonding with his college friends, is what Alex needed to get his life back in order.

Catherine Anderson grew up in the shadow of Coach Diaz’s daughter. The best friend that was always overlooked, Catherine had reservations about the men who had been Coach’s Fabulous Five, especially Alex Burke who always had eyes for Rachel, and didn’t even know Catherine existed.

Coming together to mutually help Rachel through hard times, Catherine and Alex realize they’d had eyes for one another back when. Perhaps now that Alex was home, it would be a good time to explore an adult relationship. But when news out of Boston rocks his world, it just might be more than Catherine can handle.

“I do like you,” she said and Alex lifted a brow, as if he’d forgotten the last thing he said. “I’ve never been very nice to you though.”

Alex picked up his napkin and wiped his mouth. “That’s a lot to take in.”

Now her hands shook, so she capped the water and sat it on the ground. “I was never nice to any of you. You buzzed around Rachel and her family like a swarm of bees. I get it,” she said holding her hand up to ward off any comments. “Mr. Diaz set it up that way. Having you all around kept you mostly out of trouble. But it distracted her, and that took her mind off of being my friend. It’s petty, stupid, and small of me. But, hey, I was a teenage girl.”

Alex pulled his sunglasses from his face and hooked them on the front of his shirt. “And now? All these years later, we’re swarming again?”

“Yes,” she said breathlessly. “But I’m not sixteen anymore.”

Resting his hand on the ground, he eased toward her. “So you don’t hate me?”

Catherine swallowed hard. “I don’t think I do.”

“You’re not mad about what happened the other night?”

“Mad, no. Conflicted, yes.”

He smiled again as he inched closer to her. “You’re more comfortable hating me.”

“I never actually hated you.”

“You didn’t?”

“You didn’t see me, that’s all.”

Humor flashed in his eyes. “Oh, hell, you have no idea, do you?”

Catherine eased back. “What does that mean?”

“It means let’s discuss that over dinner. No backing out, okay?”

Kennedy Devereaux by Bernadette Marie

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Bernadette Marie will be awarding a $25 Amazon/BN GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

Welcome to It's Raining Books. When did you decide to become a writer?
When I was 13.

What are your ambitions for your writing career?
I’ve been a published author since 2010, and each year I learn a little more. My ambitions are to continue to learn and to enhance my writing. Of course, I’d love to carry those big titles like NYT Bestseller within moments of releasing a book, and I think with hard work, that will come my way.

Give us an insight into your main character. What does he/she do that is so special?
Kennedy Devereaux owns a boutique and it is filled with femininity. She is strong and feminine, embracing pink as her signature color.

Do you have a special time to write or how is your day structured?
Most of my writing is done at 6am. I try to write 2000 words before I workout and go to the office. Some days this is easier than others. During the day, I usually log a few more words.

Where do the ideas come from?
I am blessed to find inspiration in everything. Ideas come to me from song lyrics, stories people tell me, and just looking at objects. Seriously, I know how lucky I am that stories are everywhere for me.

Do you work to an outline or plot or do you prefer just see where an idea takes you?
Yes, this is how I work. I say that because I come up with an idea, and I have an idea how it will go. If I try to plot it out, it doesn’t usually work out the way I plot it, so in the end, I see where it goes.

Any tips on how to get through the dreaded writer’s block?
Journal. Write every day, even if it’s a recount of what you did that day. Look up journal prompts for ideas, and focus on those. Keeping your mind active and putting words to the page will help get over that block.

What can we expect from you down the line?
More and more happily ever after romances. Kennedy Devereaux is my 41st book, and the first in a new family series. The final three books will release monthly through February. After that, I think I’ll keep writing more family sagas. I plan to put out more holiday books next year as well.

Kennedy Devereaux, owner of Kennedy Devereaux Designs, is a sight to behold in her signature pink colors, accented with custom designed jewelry. Intriguing enough that Joel Kingsley, the man building the new business next door, can’t help but keep coming around, just to get to know the woman in the designer clothes. He finds she’s not such a mystery, and his charm easily wins her over--until she finds that he’s forgotten to let her in on the secrets of his past.

“Who’s smitten with me?” Oliver asked as he set his box on the table. “Oh, tell me it’s that gal next door.”

Joel discarded the rest of the bar mix in his hand into the bucket they’d placed for trash under the table. Oliver’s words had felt like a kick in the gut, and Jeff must have noticed. Without hesitation, he kicked again.

“Which gal next door?” his brother asked. “The blonde in the pink and heels?”

Ouch, Joel thought as Oliver took a seat.

“Are you kidding me? Too pretentious. Too stuck up. I’ve been snubbed by the cheerleading squad and the prom queen before.” He began to unload the box he’d set on the table. “I’m talking the other one. Not the pregnant one either,” he said holding up a finger in objection before one of the mentioned her. “The leggy one with the mess of auburn hair. Sexy as hell. Like maybe, she was the wannabe jock that fit in with the pretty girls and balanced them out. You know.”

They all howled in laughter at his analogy, except for Joel who was able to finally breathe. Good, he thought. No one had their sights set on Kennedy except him. But Jeff was right. If she ended up hating him, it could be bad for them.

As Oliver cracked open the first growler and passed around the plastic cups, Joel decided he couldn’t afford for Kennedy to hate him.

Home Run by Bernadette Marie - Spotlight and Giveaway

In one moment Christian Keller’s life was changed. Now as he picks up the pieces he wonders if he can possibly recoup what he lost.

Victoria Lincoln had a promising future with Christian until an accident took the life of her sister and left her as guardian to her two small children.

Their lives have gone in different directions, but Christian and Victoria’s paths will cross again. It will take a lot of change to pick up where they left off—if either of them can.

Enjoy an excerpt:

Scott reached for her hand and interlaced their fingers. He ran his thumb over hers in the most intimate of gestures and Victoria thought of how sweet they must look—this family dressed in their best, very cozy in Scott’s Lexus.

She let the tension roll out of her shoulders.

Scott gave her a glance and then turned his eyes back to the road. “So how long did you and Christian Keller date?”

The tension was back, but this time it stiffened every muscle in her body. The weight in her stomach was back too and it literally made her sick. She knew she’d tightened the grip she had on Scott’s hand.

“What makes you think we dated?”

He chuckled and continued to stroke her hand with his thumb. “The way he complimented your dress without looking at it. The grip he used when shaking my hand. The awkwardness you didn’t have with anyone else. Should I go on?”

“Please don’t.” She rolled her head to the side to look at him. He was handsome—more rugged than Christian with strong features and a dark completion. He was a natural in a suit—where she’d seen Christian squirm. There was an athletic build under that Armani and she’d seen it. They’d taken the kids swimming at his condo building last week. It had been the first time she’d been in a swim suit in over a year, but he hadn’t looked at the scars that riddled her body. He’d made her feel secure in her own skin.

Victoria took a breath. “We dated up until about eight months ago.”

He nodded and guilt plagued her.

“Okay, we didn’t just date. We were engaged.”

About the Author:
Bernadette Marie has been an avid writer since the early age of 13, when she’d fill notebook after notebook with stories that she’d share with her friends. Her journey into novel writing started the summer before eighth grade when her father gave her an old typewriter. At all times of the day and night you would find her on the back porch penning her first work, which she would continue to write for the next 22 years.

In 2007 – after marriage, filling her chronic entrepreneurial needs, and having five children – Bernadette began to write seriously with the goal of being published. That year she wrote 12 books. In 2009 she was contracted for her first trilogy and the published author was born. In 2011 she (being the entrepreneur that she is) opened her own publishing house, 5 Prince Publishing, and has released contemporary titles and has begun the process of taking on other authors in other genres.

Bernadette spends most of her free time driving her kids to their many events. She is also an accomplished martial artist, working her way to her second degree black belt in Tang Soo Do. An avid reader she loves to meet readers who enjoy reading contemporary romances and she always promises Happily Ever After.
