What if time travel proved you were meant to be together? Sometimes the very things that bond two people can drive a wedge between them. Tabitha and Milt have been through a lot together, but they find themselves pulled in very different ways.

Tabitha longs for a getaway, while Milt is busy with his responsibilities. She embarks on an unplanned journey. With this attempt to pull herself out of the rut, how will she handle the unknown dangers she faces and return her life to normal?

Read an exclusive excerpt:

“Yes, that’s right. Sorry, Tabitha.” He smiled and looked at the notepad in his pocket. He decided to let her win that one and instead turned to his notes and ideas. Sitting on the couch, he turned on some relaxing jazz music. He was imagining how she’d look when she came out of that room. The very last thing on his mind was the dismantled car in his garage and the part he had taken to a friend earlier, a trusted friend who stood next to him as they watched it burn in a huge bonfire, never asking a question about the made up story of its origins and importance. He thought of Peter, sleeping in the next room. The doorbell rang, and he opened the door to welcome the babysitter. Milt sat on the couch and made small talk. Peter started moving about in his crib, probably awakened by the noise and sensing that his parents would be leaving the house. After visiting Peter in the nursery, Milt came back out, and an hour had passed.

She was ready. Milt had made the reservation for seven o’clock and now it was six. Everything seemed to be running smoothly so far.

Tabitha came out with a floral dress that hit just below the knee and strappy sandals. Since it was a last minute invitation, her best option was to put her hair up, framing her face. A smile came across Milt’s face.

“I can’t believe I’m wearing this,” she remarked. “It sure is stretched tight over my belly!”

“I didn’t even notice. I’m sitting here thinking you have the best pair of legs I’ve ever seen! Of course, the rest of you is breath-taking.” He kissed her cheek.

Tabitha blushed again. Not often did they do things like this anymore. Their new identities as parents had really changed things. This was almost like a first date. Now, hopefully the rest of the night would go this way….

Letting Go: An Anthology of Events - Exclusive Excerpt and Giveaway

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. The author will be awarding a $10 Amazon or B/N GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops of the tour.

A fascinating collection of life stories told by 30 authors from eight countries. They write of their attempts to move beyond crippling grief, free themselves of haunting memories, get out from under abusive relationships. They tell of their struggles – often painful, sometimes funny - to let go of everything from a fear of horses, to old family homes, and piles of books and papers
Enjoy an exclusive excerpt from "The Battle Within" by Marione Malimba Namukuta:

Some things we are always eager to let go of, like hair dye that has overstayed its time. More difficult to turn our backs on—a culture we despise but were born into, a marriage we know has been over for a while, a loved one who has battled an illness long after there is no hope for revitalization. Even after we have come to the decision to let go, the process is never easy.

In 1999, I lost my younger sister to pneumonia. Then at Christmas that same year, my mother died after suffering a chronic illness for two years. Having lost the last of my parents—my father died when I was six—I left behind my home, dignity and the familiar as I began to navigate the world from a new point of view. For four years, my two remaining sisters and I were separated, each tossed from one relative to another, all poor with little or nothing to give. Those who had the means to take care of us did not want to. Eventually, our maternal auntie, who drank a lot and was verbally abusive, took us in but made clear it was only for charity; she had no obligation towards any of us. We were to expect nothing from her and earn our stay at her house.

Being an orphan at an early age of thirteen is hard. Knowing you are not wanted is harder. That period of my life seemed to last for a very long time.

When you have been devastated by watching your dreams slip away, endured the betrayal of friends and family and lost loved ones, you make a decision to either get stuck in disillusionment or soar above your circumstances, for this will fundamentally affect who you are and who you will become.

I chose to leave behind the down-trodden and helpless orphan girl; I was determined never to return to that state of being. I awakened to the need to take care of myself and be self-sufficient materially. And, I have achieved this: I am hardworking, responsible and strong-minded, but even so, life continues to bring with it a lot of uncertainty. Abandoning a label, which the circumstances of life have dictated and placed on you, is one of toughest things I have done and still have to do. I have to keep looking over my shoulder to make sure the little girl is not catching up with me. One would expect that after you have been disappointed over and over again, letting go would spiral into an automatic response, like a well-mastered art, instead of every challenge bringing with it a new and unexpected conflict.

In his fiction, Alvarez often uses his small, friendly town of Talisa, where from the top of the water tower during his childhood all one could see were waving green sugarcane fields, planted during American colonization. With a piercing cry, green eyes unblinking, the black cat crept from the shadows and spiraled around Saddani’s legs. He followed the animal into the arbor. As he ducked under the arch of tangled vines, he nodded, “Xiphilinos.”

The cat’s green eyes shone in the gloom of the dense ivy and vanished, to reappear a good five feet higher, accompanied by a wide grin. “Greetings to you, Eustathios.” The man, his complexion so dark as to almost vanish in the deep shade, rounded his slanted eyes. “Or should I speak greetings to Hafique Al Saddani, or perhaps the Egyptian Bedouin, or the lovely succuba’s pimp?” He laughed, a low vibration ending in a strangled snarl.

“Saddani, yes.” Saddani looked Xiphilinos up and down and scowled. “Clothe yourself, fool. You have no fur now.”

“What do you care?” A glossy black tunic and leggings obscured his flesh and Xiphilinos adjusted his arms into the tight sleeves.

Saddani inhaled sharply and shot him a withering look. “I am rather pleased you have followed my long mission to keep the djinni under my watch. But we are all Rakhshan’s emissaries, even such a lowly creature as you. And know this. Our mission should end soon.”

He held up his hand and Xiphilinos drew back at a flare of red from the small black talisman that glinted in Saddani’s fingers.

“Lord Bramley has an extensive gun collection, yes?”

The man blinked, his green eyes narrowed with suspicion, then gave a slow nod.

“This lethal charm is for a pistol I will buy. A pistol that will be used soon.” Saddani gazed at him with hooded eyes and sat on the cold iron bench. “I need what more you found about Lord Peter Bramley, his wife, and most of all, the djinni.”

Xiphilinos stretched and folded his body onto the bench next to Saddani. “Ahhhh, what I know.” He held his palm up to his face, thin fingers stretched out wide, lustrous black sleeves creeping over his wrists.

“None of your feline dawdling, Xiphilinos. I had to deal with that conniving peasant Ne’bi. Do not try my patience.” Saddani narrowed his reptilian eyes and Xiphilinos hunched his back, exhaling a hiss. “I have an appointment with Lord Bramley soon and must make a grand entrance in my carriage.”

For the peaceful town of Willow Ridge, November presents an early holiday surprise. Stranded in the snow, 18-year-old Lena Esh and her boyfriend Josiah Witmer need more than a place to stay for the night. Lena defied her strict family and their judgmental beliefs to run away with Josiah and have his baby. But she’s starting to wonder if he can prove as responsible as he is passionate. And she isn’t sure how—or if—they can ever find a place to truly call home.

Expecting their own miracle baby, Miriam and Ben Hooley rally the town to help the young couple, and Lena draws strength from their unexpected support. Though trouble may come calling, in this season of joyous rebirth, a little child will lead them. And two couples will see their dreams of forever family come true…

Enjoy an exclusive excerpt:

Lena huffed up Nora’s long driveway Saturday evening, wondering if she would ever again be able to draw full, deep breaths. Miriam walked alongside her without any apparent discomfort, despite her age. In fact, her companion’s face lit up with girlish glee as they approached the largest, fanciest house in town.

“What a treat to be comin’ here,” Miriam exclaimed as they stepped onto the big front porch. “I’ve known Nora since she was a wee girl, ya see—and when her dat banished her for gettin’ in the family way, I felt awful bad for her. Couldn’t believe bright, responsible Nora would get herself into such a predicament, much less dump her baby off at her brother’s place,” she added in a lower voice. “But God was leadin’ her all along—even though she didn’t realize it because the bishop in Morning Star was takin’ advantage of her fear and innocence.”

Lena’s eyes widened. She’d heard Nora’s situation had been similar to her own, yet the story had a different spin when a church leader came into the picture. If Nora had reunited with her family and turned her life around, maybe there was hope for her and Josiah’s baby.

“Come on in—it’s open!” a female voice called out.

When they stepped inside a loud chorus of “Surprise! Surprise!” made Miriam stop in her tracks. Her mouth dropped open. A roomful of smiling faces greeted them, and from the crowd Lena picked out Rebecca, Rhoda, Naomi, Hannah, Rachel—and even Savilla!

“What’s goin’ on here?” Miriam asked in a tight voice. A big banner that said WELCOME, BABIES! was hanging across the kitchen entryway, and Lena noticed a long table in the front room where women sat cutting lengths of fabric.

Nora hurried over to them, wearing a mischievous grin. “Okay, I fibbed a little when I called this a party for my wedding helpers,” she said as she grabbed their hands. “It is a party, but it’s a shower for you two! We’ve been sewing diapers and gowns and onesies, figuring you’ve neither one had much of a chance to do that.”

About the Author:
Drawing upon her experiences in Jamesport, the largest Old Order Amish community in Missouri, longtime Missourian Charlotte Hubbard writes of simpler times and a faith-based lifestyle in her Seasons of the Heart series. With the help of a bet, an eight-hundred-year-old marriage contract, and a spell, ex-SBS soldier Will might just have enough in his arsenal to capture Meghan’s heart.

Since arriving in Little Glen, Scotland, Meghan Kennedy’s life has got decidedly more interesting. She enters into a bet with hunky ex-SBS soldier, William MacKenzie, discovers an ancient marriage contract and to top it all off, she learns that she had a spell cast on her…eight hundred years before she was even born. None of it matters, because she refuses to make the same mistake twice. Will’s hard body and sexy grin don’t matter, his beautiful hypnotic eyes don’t matter, and it doesn’t matter that every time they kiss her body calls out for his, as though denied of his touch for hundreds of years.

Ex-SBS soldier William MacKenzie is disciplined, trained to be an efficient soldier and he takes the same approach with his life as he does his business. Then Meghan arrives, with her fiery temper and hair to match, all he can think about is Meghan. Her feisty temper bemuses him, her beauty astounds him and her stubbornness annoys the hell out of him. Lucky for him, he doesn’t know how to quit, he can be just as stubborn and occasionally ruthless, and he will use any means necessary to get her. Of course the ‘means’ at his disposal just happen to be a bet, a marriage contract and an ancient spell, but if in the end Meghan belongs to him, who is he to argue?

Enjoy an exclusive excerpt:

“That’s right, you like to gamble, then how about a little wager?”

“A bet?” She narrowed her eyes. “What kind of bet?”

He crossed his arms. “I bet that you fall in love with me.”

“Yeah,” she snorted. “Like that’s going to happen.”

“Well, then this should be easy for you.”

She clicked her tongue.

“Not scared, are you?” He gave her pride a nudge.

She mimicked his stance. “What are the stakes?”

He smothered a smile. “If you win, you’re free from the contract. But if I win…” He lowered his head until they were nose to nose. “I get you.”

Will saw the doubt cross her face then decided to give her pride another poke, just enough to get what he wanted. “Think you can win?” Straightening to his full height, he held out his hand to her.

She eyed his hand suspiciously, then slid her smaller hand into his. “You bet I can.”

He held fast as she tried to pull back, running his thumb over the back of her hand.

“Good.” He drew in her lavender scent. “You’ll forgive me if I don’t wish you luck. I don’t want you to win.”

Meghan’s mouth dropped open in shock and she snatched her hand away. “You’re an asshole.”

Will grinned. “I have my moments.”

Once again Hamish handed her another shot of whisky, she took it without so much as a thanks and again downed it as she had with the first. She swallowed the second shot hard and swayed slightly. Shoving the glass into Will’s chest, she waved the printed pages in his face…again. “I’m taking these.”

Will sighed, holding onto his patience at her last act of rebellion before leaving. Leaving! An unexpected annoyance filled him. He didn’t want her to go anywhere, he wanted her here, with him. As she turned, her hair flew over her shoulder and before he could stop himself he reached out, grabbing a handful of her flaming hair, stopping her. Stepping up behind her, he toyed with the silky strands. “Going home?” he asked softly.

“That’s none of your business.”

She was right, it was none of his business and he didn’t push her about it, but he needed to know. He squeezed his jaw. “Time’s up, Meghan, I’m done waiting.”

Except for the quick intake of air, she appeared unaffected by his warning.

Once freed, she straightened her shoulders and walked out of the door.

As Will watched her go, a sudden tension began building in his neck and shoulders. He could only assume that it was because Meghan was driving him crazy.

Someone coughed behind him, and remembering where he was, he stepped back to the bar and took a sip of his pint. Lowering his glass to the bar he looked over his shoulder at the spectators. Most had knowing grins and a few even chuckled. He called out, “So lads, I think I’m starting to wear her down? What do you think?”

Every soul in the bar raised their glass and cheered in agreement.

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. The author will be awarding a $50 Amazon/BN GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

In an era of genetic engineering, Lieutenant Henry Gallant is the only Natural (non-genetically enhanced) officer left in the fleet. Many of his superiors, including rival Anton Neumann, have expressed concern he is not up to the challenge. However, his unique mental abilities have proven essential to the defense of the United Planets in its fight against the Titan invaders.

Serving on the first FTL prototype, the Intrepid, on its maiden voyage to Tau Ceti, Gallant finds a lost colony on the planet Elysium. Cyrus Wolfe and his son, manipulate planet politics against the democratic opposition led by James Hepburn and his granddaughter Alaina. Wolfe has allied himself with an ancient Artificial Intelligence which had lain dormant on the planet for millennia, but is now willing to protect the colonists against the Titans.

With Alaina’s help, Gallant discovers the ancient AI has a sinister ulterior motive and he matches his unique and exceptional mind against the complexity of machine intelligence to escape the ultimate trap and prevent the extermination of humanity.

In Lieutenant Henry Gallant, one man pits the naked human mind against the perspicacity of machine intelligence.

Fire

“I think it’s time to make camp for the night. I can’t see us making much more progress in the dark.” She was trembling, whether from the wet clothes and cold night air, or from fear, he couldn’t tell, but from everything he had seen of her, he was fairly sure she wasn’t frightened of the dark, the jungle, or any old jungle cat.

He grunted his agreement.

“We need a fire,” said Alaina. “I’m freezing and besides it will keep the dragor away.”

“Dragor?”

“Yes, that’s the huge panther-like cat that’s been stalking us. If it catches us unaware, your knife isn’t going to be much use against a beast of at least two hundred kilograms with huge fangs and claws. I’d be more comfortable with a good, bright, blazing fire.”

Nodding, Gallant began rounding up dry wood and grass from the nearby area. Alaina gathered large leafy branches from a nearby tree to create a shelter.

As he arranged the firewood, he looked up to see Alaina taking off her halter top and shorts. She stretched the clothes out on a nearby bush, and, in the next second, she removed her undergarments as well.

Shivering naked in front of him, she appeared unabashed.

Gallant gawked momentarily, but, given the necessity of removing their wet clothes, he simply said, “I’ll turn my back.”

“All right, if that’s how you feel,” she said. “I don’t know if UP morality, or cultural standards have changed so much, but I hope you’re not going to be offended by simple nudity. It is, after all, necessary for us to get our clothes dry before we can sleep.”

He said nothing further, but he had managed an admiring glance before turning away. Certainly her form could offend no man.

She said, “Are you going to light the fire, or are you going to let me freeze to death?”

Focusing his attention back on the kindling, he struck his knife blade against a stone of flint which he had found. The spark ignited the kindling, and he quickly added the larger branches. Once he threw on a large block of wood, the fire lit up nicely.

He stoked the flames for a minute, and then finally, without looking at her, he removed his clothes and stretched them on the bushes next to Alaina’s.

He sensed her presence nearby when she leaned a branch against a low lying tree limb. She began pilling the leafy twigs on a support branch until it resembled a fair shelter.

Joining her efforts, Gallant gathered more leafy material for bedding.

Alaina walked behind him. She placed a finger on top of the scar on Gallant’s left shoulder and traced the scar down his back, which continued on along his right leg—as if her touch had magic healing powers to impart. Her touch certainly had an effect. He swallowed.

“I’m sorry . . .” she said with evident empathy for his injury.

“It’s still healing. It’ll disappear before too long.”

“Your scar kind of resembles an outline for a dragor. Dragor is a blending of dragon and panther—very deadly, very mysterious. When we first began building our town, we lost many children to the dragor. Our parents told us scary stories about dragors to keep us close to home,” she explained, adding, “Are you deadly and mysterious?”

He didn’t answer right away, but he thought of the things he had accomplished that he was proud of and of the few things he lived with that he was not so proud of. “A warrior should be deadly,” he said, “but not so mysterious.”

She nodded, apparently satisfied with the answer, as if it fit into her understanding of him.

As they faced each other—naked—Gallant’s breathing became shallow and rapid. He let Alaina’s figure and beauty produce an undeniable natural response.

Book Reviews for Volume 1:

Past Reviews of the first volume: Midshipman Henry Galant @2013

"The author has created a wonderful piece of work with his first novel in the Henry Gallant Saga. Between Henry Gallant beginning his new life on the United Planets' battle cruiser Repulse and trying to save the world the author has came up with it all. Henry Gallant is an admirable character with many wonderful features such as courage, intelligence, humility, kindness and special powers. ... the odds stacked against him pretty high. But maybe through it all, Kelsey will see the remarkable things about him." Ashley Patts, Teenage Rush teenagerush.blogspot.com

"This story moves along at a swift pace, with interesting character development and plot surprises. The characters are complete and engaging. This could develop into a good series." Rae

"Its style and flavor reminded me of The Lost Fleet series by Jack Campbell." - JJH

"Space Opera at its finest. Rousing read, introverted young man against impossible odds, a girl to win or lose, an enemy or is he? Way too much fun...can't wait for the next one." - vrzepka

The Beautiful American by Jeanne Mackin - Excerpt Tour and Giveaway

Enjoy an exclusive excerpt from The Beautiful American as part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Jeanne will be awarding a photo/postcard collection from the 1920s (US/Canada only) to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

As recovery from World War II begins, expat American Nora Tours travels from her home in southern France to London in search of her missing sixteen-year-old daughter. There, she unexpectedly meets up with an old acquaintance, famous model-turned-photographer Lee Miller. Neither has emerged from the war unscathed.

Nora and Lee knew each other in the heady days of late 1920's Paris, when Nora was giddy with love for her childhood sweetheart, Lee became the celebrated mistress of the artist Man Ray, and Lee's magnetic beauty drew them all into the glamorous lives of famous artists and their wealthy patrons. But Lee fails to realize that her friendship with Nora is even older, that it goes back to their days as children in Poughkeepsie, New York, when a devastating trauma marked Lee forever. Will their reunion give them a chance to forgive past betrayals...and break years of silence to forge a meaningful connection as women who have shared the best and the worst that life can offer?

Enjoy this exclusive excerpt:

Note de Tête

Top note: the fragrance first released when the perfume achieves initial contact with the skin of the wearer, predominating in the olfactory sense for approximately fifteen minutes. Quite often these first notes of fragrance remind the wearer of a certain day in childhood, the smell of a chamomile lawn or a spice cake, or a sunny day at a picnic spot. The top note is the first station on the journey, where the decision of yes or no must be made.

--From the notebook of N. Tours

In the kingdom of smells, everything is either bliss or torture.

-Colette

Chapter One

"You!" she said, and a few of her top parcels fell, as if in emphasis. The old doorman saluted and bent to retrieve them. Lee straightened her hat with a preoccupied gesture. She wore an expensive suit, well cut of real Scottish tweed, but it had seen better days. "I haven't seen you since..." She paused, thinking.

"Paris. Nineteen thirty-two," I supplied.

"Yes. Paris." Her face softened. With the help of the doorman, she balanced her packages in a way that allowed her to extend her gloved hand.

Lee shook hands like a man, with a strong grip and a pumping action. You had to stand your ground or her handshake could knock you off balance.

"You are dressing much better," she said. "I like the jacket. Good lines."

It was one of Dahlia's jackets, made for her by Omar's housekeeper. Omar was my dear friend in Grasse but I didn't say that, because then I would have to talk about Dahlia and explain who Omar was and it would be difficult to end all the explanations. Sixteen years is a long time, even longer when a war stalks through them. Sixteen years could not be condensed to casual chitchat in the doorway of Harrods. "I like your suit," I said, settling for the predictable.

"I still feel more comfortable in trousers and combat boots." Lee hesitated, considering. Perhaps she was pursuing phantoms as well.

Ancestry

I stood at my grandmother's funeral in 2006 and realized with shock that I was actually related to about three hundred of the five hundred people at the funeral. My grandmother lived for 102 years. She had eight children, my dad being the last. There were more than forty grandchildren, eighty-five great grandchildren, at least twenty-five great, great grandkids, and two great, great, great grandchildren whom I knew of. Looking around, I began to feel dizzy. How could I be related to all these people? But more importantly, all these people were here because of one woman. If it weren’t for her, none of us would have been born. (Well perhaps our souls would have been here but not the distinct personalities that we know today.) Irene Serieux was actually responsible for a whole generation.

I am sure my grandmother never dreamed that she would create such a legacy. It was like a movie that opens with one woman, and by the end of the film, she has created a whole village of people, each with his or her own talents, dreams and ambitions. The energy of all these people contributes to the collective energy of the universe. My grandmother never realized it, but she was a force!

And so are you. You have no clue what your life’s purpose is, really. Aside from your immediate contributions to society and your desire to be your authentic self, your life means so much more than you may get a chance to discover in this lifetime. Your life is connected to those who came before you and those who will follow. You are not only creating a life for yourself now, you are a source of influence far greater than you can imagine. You are creating a legacy that future generations will want to know about, talk about, learn from, and eventually embrace.

You know, some people leave their mark on the world, but there are those who actually change it. I am not sure what my grandmother’s individual mark was, but with three hundred imprints (and counting), it’s easy to see how one person can change the world!

Life is short…you are a connecting dot from one life to another. It is important that you understand that. Make this loop count!

Ronnie has the job any entry-level angel or demon would sell their soul for—she's a retrieval analyst for the largest search engine in the world. Ubiquity is a joint initiative between heaven and hell. Because what better way to track all of humanity's secrets, both good and bad, than direct access to their web browsing habits.

She might appreciate the position a little more if a) she could remember anything about her life before she started working at Ubiquity, b) the damn voice in her head would just shut up already, and c) her boss wasn't a complete dickhead.

As she searches for solutions to the first two issues, and hopes the third will work itself out in performance reviews, she uncovers more petty backstabbing than an episode of Real Housewives, and a conspiracy as old as Lucifer's descent from heaven. On top of all that, if she forgets the cover sheet on her TPS report one more time, she's absolutely going on final written warning.

Now Ronnie’s struggling to keep her sanity and job, while stopping the voice in her head from stealing her life. She almost misses the boredom of data analysis at Ubiquity. Almost.

Enjoy an excerpt:

Every inch of me wanted to close the distance between us, to rest my hands on his still heaving chest, to see what it would be like to kiss him. Was I even allowed to do that? Michael was one of the holiest of holy. Was he above that kind of thing?

A flicker of memory flashed through my thoughts. Gabe hadn’t been. This felt different though, more subtle, but at the same time more alive.

Something clattered behind me. Michael had dropped his practice weapon. His palms glided along my arms until he reached my fingers. He loosed each one, and the wooden blades fell to the ground.

He rested one hand on the back of my neck, eyes searching mine for a moment. He dipped his head in and pressed his lips to mine. My pulse raced in response, and I leaned into the gesture. This was different than last night. It was safe, and gentle, and all consuming. I could lose myself in this sensation.

I kissed him back, nipping at his bottom lip. My hands slid along his chest, memorizing every inch of definition through his thin shirt. He groaned and tangled his fingers in my hair.

His lips parted, and I darted my tongue into his mouth. My skin burned with need, and my chest clenched with something achingly familiar I couldn’t quite grasp. I shifted my weight against him, sighing at the friction. His free hand rested at the small of my back, fingertips grazing my spine. I trailed down his chest and tugged the bottom of his shirt.

Infiltrating an international drug cartel is the dangerous chance of a lifetime for Asher Beaulieu of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Falling in love while running the op isn’t part of the plan, but he never had much use for plans anyway. Shrouded in deception and surrounded by temptation, his charmed life explodes in betrayal and tragedy.

Ash rises from the flames a guarded, wary shadow of his former self. His past comes to revisit him, along with an annoying American DEA agent, who forces Ash to reclaim his courage and character before facing another chance at love—and an even deadlier threat.

DEA Special Agent Emmaline Justice is determined to be recognized for her work, not her sex. She doesn’t have time for an intriguing, wounded RCMP inspector. When the contacts she cultivated over long months of an international undercover investigation keep showing up dead, Emma must use her instincts as both an agent and a woman to determine Beaulieu’s role in the case and in her life.

One woman tore him apart. Another is brave enough to put him back together—if his past doesn’t kill him first.

Enjoy an exclusive excerpt:

“I didn’t kill anyone, Pete. If I did, it would have been a lot more gruesome and definitely more painful. And no one would ever find the bodies.”

Pete scowled and heaved a breath, hands on hips. “You can’t say things like that, Ash, not now, not even joking. Both Salvatores are suspected of direct involvement with the bombing and your parents’ murder. You have good reason to want them dead.”

“You think I don’t know that?” Ash tightened his jaw, the ache in his left arm an indication he’d done the same with his fists. He flattened his palms on the top of his thighs and sucked in a slow, careful breath. “You think I haven’t figured that out already?”

“Has anyone considered maybe someone is after Ash? They’re either trying to set him up or might come after him next?” Andy’s quiet voice eased the tension between Ash and his boss. “You were part of Salvatore’s intimate circle for a while. If someone’s after them, they might come after you.”

Ash got to his feet and stalked over to the narrow window. He was silent for a moment, and then his shoulders sagged as he sighed.

“Yeah. I’ve thought of that. I’ve thought about how people close to me might be in danger again.” He glared unseeing out onto the street, refusing to look at Andy. He couldn’t look at Andy. “We’ve got to find who killed Rico and Gina. We’ve got find out before they start moving from the criminals to my friends again.”

He's a High-Octane Special Ops Pro

When Special Forces Captain Landon Donovan is chosen for an assignment with the Department of Covert Operations, he's stunned to find his new partner is a beautiful woman who looks like she couldn't hurt a fly, never mind take down a terrorist.

She's No Kitten

Ivy Halliwell isn't your average covert op. She's a feline shifter, and more dangerous than she looks. Her feline DNA means she can literally bring out the claws when things get dicey. She's worked with a string of hotheaded military guys who've underestimated her special skills in the past. But when she's partnered with special agent Donovan, a man sexy enough to make any girl purr, things begin to heat up. He doesn't think she's a freak-and he's smokin' hot. Soon they're facing a threat even greater than anyone imagines...and an animal magnetism impossible to ignore.

Enjoy this exclusive excerpt:

Landon expected Todd and Kendra to take him to another conference room, so he was surprised when they led him into what looked like a workout room. Mats covered the floor and a heavy bag hung from a hook in one corner. Weights and workout equipment filled a good portion of the room. A woman was seated cross-legged in the center of it, her eyes closed, her hands loosely resting on her knees. At their entrance, she gracefully uncurled herself from the floor and got to her feet.

She was wearing a pair of black workout pants like his ex-girlfriend used to wear when she went to yoga class, and a form-fitting tank top. He couldn’t help but notice her curvy, athletic body, expressive dark eyes, and full lips. With little makeup and her long, dark hair pulled up in a ponytail, she looked like the girl next door. Only more exotic than any girl he’d ever lived next door to, that was for sure.

He didn’t care how tired and irritated he was, this was a woman he definitely wouldn’t mind stopping to appreciate. Hopefully, one of his new training officers would introduce them before she left to give them the room.

“Landon, meet Ivy Halliwell, your new partner,” Kendra said. “Ivy, Captain Landon Donovan, Special Forces.”

They were going to have to pick his jaw up off the floor because Landon was damn sure that’s where it was after hearing that announcement. No way was this walking wet dream his partner. She looked like she couldn’t hurt a fly, much less do any kind of covert ops. They had to be messing with him.

4_24 Cover_ Bittersweet RescueShe rescued him, and saved herself.

When Ellie Sherwood rescues her boss from drowning, she never anticipates the consequences. For three years she’s existed in an emotional limbo after a catastrophic family tragedy, but now she’s awake and ready to seize life with both hands. And that includes the sexy boss she’s been secretly infatuated with for some time.

Drake Crawford is about to achieve his lifelong goal when a car accident plays havoc with his life. Not only is his plan for revenge delayed, but his once demure personal assistant is now shockingly, irresistibly forward. Drake is against office affairs, and Ellie is vital to his success, but he can’t get her out of his mind, and besides, he does owe her...

His solution—a two-week break with Ellie at his wilderness hideout. They’ll indulge in a scorching, private affair, and when it’s over they’ll return to their normal lives. But as Drake discovers more about Ellie, he realises her quiet exterior hides a backbone of steel. When she asks him to walk away from his ultimate goal, he knows it’s time to let her go.

Read an excerpt:

Ellie’s face was a tight mask. Her skin was blanched, her eyes shadowed, and her jaw clenched. She looked just like that the night they’d crashed into the harbour. Holy shit. It hit him with renewed vengeance what she’d achieved that night. She’d been petrified, immobilised with horror, and yet somehow she’d managed to save them both. She’d singlehandedly pulled him from the sinking car and hauled him out of the water. How had she done that when she was just a slip of a girl and scared out of her wits?

A lump wedged in his throat as he stared at her with renewed awe and respect. Ellie was unique, special in every way.

“How did you do it, Ellie?” he asked softly. “How did you save my sorry arse?”

She blinked, shook her head, and squeezed her eyes shut as if trying and failing to block out the memories.

“It’s okay if you don’t want to talk about it,” he quickly added. “I know it can be difficult to—”

“Everyone thinks I’m a hero because I rescued you.” Her eyes flew open, and their tormented depths made him start. “But the truth is, you rescued me.” She stopped short.

The waves crashed endlessly. “I don’t understand,” he said when the silence got too much for him.

“You see, if you hadn’t been there—” Using the cuffs of her oversized jacket, she scrubbed at her eyes, then stared blindly out to sea. “If you hadn’t been with me in the car, I would have...I would have let myself drown.”

The Unholy by Paul DeBlassie III -- Excerpt and Giveaway

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. One randomly drawn commenter will receive a $50 Amazon or BN gift card. The Rafflecopter is at the end of this post.

A young curandera, a medicine woman, intent on uncovering the secrets of her past is forced into a life-and-death battle against an evil Archbishop. Set in the mystic land of Aztlan, The Unholy is a novel of destiny as healer and slayer. Native lore of dreams and visions, shape changing, and natural magic work to spin a neo-gothic web in which sadness and mystery lure the unsuspecting into a twilight realm of discovery and decision.

Enjoy this excerpt:

Lightning streaked across a midnight dark sky, making the neck hairs of a five-year-old girl crouched beneath a cluster of twenty-foot pines in the Turquoise Mountains of Aztlan stand on end. The long wavy strands of her auburn mane floated outward with the static charge. It felt as though the world was about to end.

Seconds later, lightning struck a lone tree nearby and a crash of thunder shook the ground. Her body rocked back and forth, trembling with terror. She lost her footing, sandstone crumbling beneath her feet, and then regained it; still, she did not feel safe. There appeared to be reddish eyes watching from behind scrub oaks and mountain pines, scanning her every movement and watching her quick breaths. Then everything became silent.

The girl leaned against the trunk of the nearest tree. The night air wrapped its frigid arms tightly around her, and she wondered if she would freeze to death or, even worse, stay there through the night and by morning be nothing but the blood and bones left by hungry animals. Her breaths became quicker and were so shallow that no air seemed to reach her lungs. The dusty earth gave up quick bursts of sand from gusts of northerly winds that blew so fiercely into her nostrils that she coughed but tried to stifle the sounds because she didn’t want to be noticed.

Raphael Jones is a Kentucky-born scoundrel, who has never played by the rules. When Colorado mining heiress, Silver Nichols, hires him to stop her precious daddy from marrying a golddigger, Rafe sets out to seduce Silver and win her fortune.

But beneath Silver's cool veneer, Rafe encounters a sweet vulnerability and an aching secret that threatens to send his whole world up in smoke.

Now the wily scoundrel must choose: walk away or wager the one thing he can't afford to lose—his heart.

Enjoy this excerpt:

The lantern light glanced off glittering spires of crystal. Iridescent with shades of rose, green, and blue, these spikes rose from the cave floor and plunged from the ceiling like fangs in some sleeping giant's mouth. The cavern was massive, perhaps the size of Silver's mansion, and the river that snaked through its center bubbled like some medicinal hot spring.

"It... it's beautiful," Silver whispered uneasily, watching the play of light across this otherworldly landscape.

Rafe nodded weakly, wiping his sleeve across his bleeding temple. The stalagmite he braced himself against was moist and cool; resting there was an insidious temptation. The steam from the underground river made breathing hard, even harder than the dust in the caved-in mining shaft above. He felt light-headed.

"Rafe, perhaps you should rest—"

"No," he said quickly, thrusting himself up and away from the rock. The last thing he needed was an argument about his condition. He didn't have the stamina for it. He had to get her safely above ground. Besides, how could he tell her that if he closed his eyes, he might never wake up again?

Tavy's bark echoed somewhere to their left. Summoning his strength, Rafe caught Silver's hand and hurried her in that direction. Falling water could be heard roaring on the other side of a wall.

"The river seems to go through a tunnel," Silver panted, leaning as far over the bank as she dared. "I can't tell how far, but with the waterfall so close, the tunnel can't be too long... can it?"

Tavy's chirping rolled across the water. Once again, the otter pup climbed up onto the river’s bank, shaking her fur. She waddled to each of them in turn, giving them a snuffle and a kiss. Rafe's throat swelled. Even Silver looked misty-eyed. Then Tavy galloped to the edge of the river. Holding their breaths, they watched in uneasy silence as the otter baby, fearless in her element now, dived and let the current sweep her under the mountain.

Silver hugged her arms to her chest and turned anxious, luminous eyes to him. "She made it, Rafe. I know she did."

He nodded. There was nothing more to say. Whether Tavy made it or not, they had to make the same journey. They had no choice.

He kicked off his boots. "Don't give up, Silver. Whatever happens, you keep swimming, all right?"

She bit her lip. Even so, a tear spilled down her cheek. She'd been so incredibly brave in the aftermath of the cave-in. He knew she was terrified, and not just for him.

"We can rest first—"

"No." He smiled. It was the sort of smile he'd honed over the years: cocksure, devil-may-care. He was afraid if he didn't convince her to swim now, she never would, because she wouldn't leave him behind.

He met her gaze evenly, another tactic he'd learned for his cons. "It's better this way."

Her fingers shook in his hand. "Then you have to promise me you won't let go—"

In answer, he kissed her. He combed his fingers through her hair, and crushed her hips against his, and made love to her with his mouth. He would have breathed his last breath into her if it would have guaranteed that she'd make it to the surface alive. But she pulled away shakily, accusation glimmering through her tears.

"Don't kiss me like that!” she gasped. “Not like it's going to be the last time!"
