Elected as the Songstress, Aria takes her place on the sacred platform to sing before every dawn. As long as she does so, peace and abundant life belong to her people. One morning, amidst a strange wind that brings with it a curse in its eerie howl, Aria loses her ability to make music. But the encroaching death that transpires isn’t her biggest tragedy. It’s that she adores the cause of her blunder, for he’s a magnificent winged creature who’s stolen more than her voice.

“Who are you?”

He pushed further back into the shadows as she strode closer. “Someone you need not know.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

When he didn’t answer, she sighed.

“What a strange, terrible day,” she mumbled. “Well, at least tell me your name . . .”

He stood, speechless, knowing he shouldn’t be there at all—conversing with a Meleyan—especially not their musical deliverer that he was set to doom the day after tomorrow.

A peculiar grumbling interrupted her insistence, to his relief.

“Sorry.” She patted her stomach. He could see, even in the blackened night, how her face turned a deeper shade of red than her hair. “I’ve forgotten to eat. I guess I’m hungrier than I realized.”

He plucked an apple from the tree he’d nearly become a part of and held it out to her. The girl approached tentatively. She reached for the fruit but recoiled when her fingers brushed his.

“Is touching me so horrible?” he asked.

Her jaw dropped open and her delicate brow furrowed. She inclined her head. “It . . . hurt.”

“How?” he asked, for her fingers felt good to him, soothing. Warm. He wanted to try again.

“I don’t know how to explain . . .”

“Hum.” Unsatisfied with the answer, he tossed the apple to her and watched as she crunched her teeth into it.

A veteran of the performing arts and worldwide missions, Tessa Stockton also contributed as a writer/editor for ministry publications, ghostwriter for political content, and she headed a column on the topic of forgiveness. Today she writes romance and intrigue novels in a variety of genres. In addition to her fantasy romance, WIND’S ARIA, she’s the author of suspense/thriller, THE UNSPEAKABLE, political intrigue/romance, THE UNFORGIVABLE, and a literary short story, LOVE AND LULL, with more in the works.

From This Day Forward
Christian Music agent Kellen Rossiter has everything he ever wanted: A-list clients from coast to coast, a loving wife who honors and respects him, and a faith life that’s never wavered—until now.

Juliet Rossiter has the perfect life: a rewarding schedule serving the underprivileged, a husband who loves her as Christ loved the church, and a blessed future as a mother—at least that's what she thinks.

For Better or Worse
But what happens when their rock-solid marriage begins to crumble under the weight of an unexpected and powerful temptation? How does love survive when its foundation is shaken?

'Til Death Do Us Part
When human frailty and the allure of sin deal a harsh blow to their relationship, it will take more than love to mend the shattered trust and heartbreak. It will take a lifetime of devotion.

This story revolves around a married Christian couple, Kellen and Juliet. Happily married and deeply in love, they are both devout Christians.

Kellen is a musical talent scout and spends a lot of time in the evenings going out to listen to potential clients. Juliette really doesn’t care for that type atmosphere and would rather spend time at her church and local shelters.

When Kellen goes to a club to listen to a young singer, Chloe, he is deeply attracted to her for some reason. He loves his wife, but can’t seem to get Chloe out of his mind. He tries to avoid spending much time with her, but fate seems to keep throwing her in his path. He knows it is wrong, but enjoys the feeling he gets when he is around her.

Meanwhile, Juliet is lonely, and although she spends a lot of time at the church, she misses her husband. There is a man, Tim, who attends the church who is attracted to her. She however, doesn’t want anything to do with him.

Kellen struggles with his attraction to Chloe, which becomes more and more difficult. Eventually, in a moment of weakness, he leans over and kisses her. Unfortunately, someone in the office sees this and the word gets out. Eventually; while attending a party, Juliette overhears two women talking about it.

Thus begins a very difficult time in their relationship. Kellen is extremely sorry over the entire thing, and is not seeing Chloe at all anymore, even in a working relationship. Juliet, however, feels betrayed and is not willing to forgive him.

How this young couple tries to discover how to resolve their situation is something every couple should read about. They must first find out why they were so easily susceptible to temptation in the first place. The rest of the story tells of their search for peace, forgiveness and the ability to restore their marriage. They work with their pastor and with God to find all the answers.

This author has much insight into many of the causes of misunderstanding and problems that face so many couples today. She shows each step in their new understanding of each other and how they finally come together in love and harmony and make a marriage that is much stronger than it ever was before.

I give this a strong 4 / 5 flowers - This was a very good book!

Rafael: The Santiago Brothers Book One by K. Victoria Chase - Book tour and giveaway

Today we're spotlighting author K. Victoria Chase on her tour with Goddess Fish Promotions for the inspirational romantic suspense, "Rafael: The Santiago Brothers Book One".

The author is giving away a 10 Amazon GC to someone during her tour, so comment today AND follow her tour (if you click on the banner over there on the left, it'll take you to a list of her tour stops)! The more you read and comment, the better your odds of winning. You could be introduced to a great new author AND win a GC!

The last time Detective Genie Green let a man humiliate her was her college sweetheart—never again. Yet, when former high school lothario Rafael Santiago returns to town as the consulting detective on her case, Genie’s rule of never allowing another man to best her is challenged. Can she trust him long enough to solve this case and get the glory?

Rafa can’t seem to outrun his delinquent past. When The Snakes, a criminal organization he used to belong to, begin murdering people from his hometown, he has a chance to right some of his past wrongs. Will arresting the murderers be enough to redeem him, or will a certain beautiful detective pay the ultimate price instead?

A Christian interracial romantic suspense.

Winters’ gaze tightened on Rafa. Genie’s throat went dry. He wouldn’t blame Rafa for what happened, would he? Would Lieutenant Winters ship him back to California?

“Look Santiago, I appreciate you coming all this way, from California and all, but Detective Green is one of my best. I can’t have her getting killed over chasing down a possible witness.”

“Sir!” Genie tried to interject but was ignored.

“Lieutenant Winters,” he began, “we both agree Detective Green is invaluable to your department. Believe me, I don’t want to see her dead either,” he ended sarcastically.

“Can you two please stop talking about me as if I’m not in the room? For the record, I’m fine, just a little beat down, that’s all.” She appreciated the fuss but the paternal implications unsettled her. She was an officer just like the two of them, and just as capable at performing her job. She was strongest when she didn’t have to depend on men.

“Santiago, take her home as soon as the doctor discharges her. I just finished briefing Agent Compton, who was asleep if you can believe it.” He snorted his disapproval. Winters pointed in her direction. “I want you to rest, and then tomorrow start fresh. New leads on this Diego guy and I want to see your FBI liaison out of his office and hitting the streets with the two of you. Understand?” He didn’t wait for their response.

When they were alone Rafa gave her a sheepish grin. “I think that went well.”

Genie laughed then clutched her chest.

“Are you alright?” Rafa’s hands were on her upper arms and she was drawn to his eyes.

The pain subsided and she forced a grin. “I’m okay. It hurts to laugh. The doctors said I might have some bruised ribs, but it shouldn’t be too serious.” She tried to stand, but his hands held her in place. “Rafael?”

“Maybe you should just rest a little while longer. Delay your discharge.”

“Actually, the doctor said I was free to go before you showed up.”

“What if you tell him your chest hurts?”

Genie smiled at his scheming. “I’m fine really, and I want to sleep in my own bed tonight.” She pushed his hands away, but he planted them firmly on the bed on either side of her. Genie sucked in air when his face stopped inches from her. She stilled and nothing drew her notice but his face, his nearness.

“Eugenia, for once, just slow down. You don’t have to do everything alone. Let me help you.” His voice was soft but demanding. His eyes spoke of concern for her, and she marveled. Could she let someone else help? Let someone else in? Jeff broke her heart, and the bitterness she had still had a stranglehold on her life. And she was choking. All her energy went into proving her own worth, her own merit. The man before her didn’t doubt her abilities, didn’t ask her to sacrifice everything, he just wanted to help. To be her partner. She could count on him.

As the heat of their bodies joined, she inhaled his sweet, minty breath. Then, as if willed by something beyond her control, her eyes drifted to his lips. What could she do? Full, pleasantly curved, they were there––staring at her like forbidden fruit…just ripe. She knew if she could just have one taste, it would change her life forever, and satisfy a childhood daydream. It had been too long since she had been kissed. A kiss from a man of integrity, of worth. Genie relinquished her control to the magnetic pull and went willingly.

Her eyes closed.

Tamelia Tumlin - Author interview and Giveaway!

Give a big welcome to Tamelia Tumlin who's visiting with us on her virtual book tour for the inspirational suspense novel, "Deadly Image".

She's graciously offered TWO eBook copies of "Deadly Image" to commenters on the blog post today (so make sure you say hello!). She's also hosting a contest on her website, http://www.tameliatumlin.com  for two $10 Amazon GCs.

She's 'fessed up to five secrets about herself today, so take a peek and then maybe share one of your own in the comments.  The floor is yours, Tamelia!

Secret one: Sometimes, I still have trouble thinking of myself as a “real” author. Yes, I have written several books; some of which are traditional print books and others which are strictly e-books. I even have readers who want to read more of my work and some who are asking when my next one is coming out. For this, I am very grateful. It certainly warms my heart to know someone out there really likes to read my stories. However, I’ve always been under the impression that to be a “real” author a person must write for one of the Big Six publishers and make their way up the New York Times best seller list. While, this is true for some authors, I’m learning that many best selling authors write for smaller presses like I do. So, I guess I need to change my perception of what a “real” author is and realize that everyone won’t necessarily write for the Big Six or make on to the NYT best seller’s list, but that doesn’t make them any less of a “real” author.

Secret Two: I really do pay attention to my reader’s reviews of my books. I read them as learning tool to find out what the readers liked, didn’t like and what they would have liked for me to do with the story they read that I didn’t. This helps when I’m penning a new story. I take their comments into consideration as I plot the next story.

Secret Three: I am a Nick at Night, TV Land and Hallmark kind of girl. I absolutely love watching reruns of my favorite sitcoms: Cheers, Frazier, The Nanny (my absolute favorite), The Golden Girls (another favorite), and Designing Women when it was running. Now, I’d like to say I had never seen them before Nick at Night, but I’ll go ahead and age myself by saying I saw the originals when they first premiered many, many years ago. But, I still enjoy the reruns.

Secret Four: I teach fourth grade in my hometown. I’m one of the ELA teachers so I get to teach the subjects I really love. Except…shhh, don’t tell anyone… I absolutely hate teaching writing. The thought of reading, editing and helping revise eighty plus essays every week or every other week is not my cup of tea. Now, you’re probably wondering why an author would hate to teach writing. It’s simple really, at the fourth grade level we focus so much on the grammatical part and the writing process itself that the creative side seems to get brushed under the rug so to speak. Of course, I do teach them how to be creative, but somehow that gets a bit lost when we have to work on sentence formation, capitol letters and end marks until we are blue in the face. I will say last year was a little more exciting because my little ones really did catch on to using their first sentence to “hook” the reader. That was certainly more fun than capitalizing and punctuating and I enjoyed reading their “hooks”. Some of which, were quite good. Hmm… as you can see editing is my least favorite part of the writing process.

Secret Five: I’m still a kid at heart when it comes to Christmas. I love everything about the season and I start mine EARLY because I want to savor every moment. The sights, sounds and smells. I put my tree up on November 1 (I do have to wait until after Halloween is over because I can not stand to see Christmas and Halloween decorations mixed. Just a little quirk of mine, though I do love both holidays as long as they are separate.) But, come November 1 my trees (yes, plural) come out and everything gets decorated from the house to the yard. We start watching Christmas movies after we decorate the trees and don’t stop until New Years Day. I do have one movie that I watch every New Year’s Eve whenever possible: When Harry Met Sally. Another strange quirk, I know, but it is something I started years ago and it has become a tradition in my house. Who doesn’t love Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan?

Well, enough about me. Tell me some of your secrets. Don’t be shy…we want to hear all the juicy details.

Gone without a trace ...

Lexi Yates knows she hasn’t harmed her three-year old daughter, yet the Louisiana town of Gator Bayou seems to think she’s guilty. With her daughter missing, the evidence stacking up against her and her faith in God tested to the limit, Lexi must find a way to convince FBI agent Ace Valdez she’s innocent before she becomes the next target.

Ace Valdez doesn’t trust easily, and he certainly knows better than to fall for a case, yet there’s something about the widowed mother that makes him want to believe she’s innocent, but evidence doesn’t lie. Or does it?

Tamelia Tumlin sold her first story to Dogwood Tales Magazine many years ago while taking a creative writing course in college. The short story titled "The Traveler" was the feature story for that edition. After graduating college in elementary education, life, a teaching career and a wonderful son consumed most of her time. However, in the past couple of years, the yearning to pen fabulous romantic tales of to-die-for heroes and spirited heroines has taken over. Ms. Tumlin has worked with several online publishers, but she is now writing for Steel Magnolia Press. Juggling motherhood, teaching and writing is a challenge, but one she welcomes to pursue her passion. Her novels range from sweet and sassy to dark and dangerous.

The Marshals of Journey Creek series by Dora Hiers - Virtual Book Tour and Giveaway!

Today we're welcoming author Dora Hiers to the blog on her tour with Goddess Fish Promotions for the Contemporary Inspirational Romantic Suspense series, The Marshals of Journey Creek.  The series includes:  Journey's Edge, Journey's End and Journey's Embrace.
Dora is giving away a $10 Pelican Book Group GC and EVERY stop, so comment today AND follow her tour (if you click on the banner over there on the left, it'll take you to a list of her tour stops)! The more you read and comment, the better your odds of winning. You could be introduced to a great new author AND win a GC!

Thank you so much for stopping by!

Why do you write in your genre? What draws you to it?

I enjoy romances sprinkled with forgiveness and courage, of second chances and happy endings. I’m a firm believer that romance isn’t about the bedroom, so I write stories that I’m not embarrassed for my children or grandchildren to pick up and read. They won’t find graphic words or bedroom scenes.

They will meet characters dealing with real life issues such as single parenthood, domestic violence, weak self-images, emotional or physical abandonment, job-related dangers, and more. Characters who live out honor and courage. Characters who struggle with decisions and don’t always make the best choices. Characters who may have unsavory backgrounds, but choose to grow and move past the person they were.

You’ll laugh with my heroes and heroines, maybe cry with them, but just sit back and enjoy the ride because my books always end with a happily-ever-after.

What research is required?

Does moving count? lol. My books are contemporary, so I have the luxury of choosing from popular names for my characters, but I did have to nail down the setting. Originally, I planned to use north Georgia, our family’s favorite vacation destination, for the series, but I wanted to know more about the area than what I could glean over the internet. I wanted to live in, to experience, to belong to my setting. Well, we did move, not due to my writing, but for hubby’s job change. After moving to North Carolina and falling in love with the area, I changed the setting to Journey Creek, a fictional city northeast of Charlotte, to offer readers accurate details, a place to belong, or long to be.

For the actual stories, Journey’s End germinated from a newspaper article about a mobster, finally convicted for his crimes years later. Intrigued, I played the “what if” game until I came up with the premise, which ended up nothing like the original account. The internet is a fabulous research tool, and I used it. Hubby teases that he worries about the possibility of a couple men in suits showing up at the front door, especially since I finished the Marshals series and moved on to the CIA.

Name one thing you learned from your hero/heroine.

Renner Crossman from Journey’s Edge taught me about freedom and courage. Freedom to recognize that we’re not perfect, that it’s OK to mess up, and the freedom that comes from releasing our guilt. Courage to put the past behind you, to forgive and be forgiven, to move on, looking forward to the future. Renner recognized that he messed up, but he also demonstrated the courage and desire to make things right. He’s not the same guy he was ten years ago, but neither is his ex-fiancé, McKinley Frasier. And she can’t seem to resist the new and improved version…

Any odd or interesting writing quirks, habits or superstitions?

My creativity takes a drastic nosedive in the afternoons, so I write mostly in the mornings. I’m a routine kinda gal. You won’t find me huddled over my laptop at my favorite coffee shop.

Noise bothers me. I enjoy quiet while I write. No music or distractions, just the soft snores of my golden retriever and the chattering of the birds and the antics of squirrels outside my window. And I tend to go into near panic mode if I don’t have a drink next to me. My faves: coffee, iced tea, diet soda and hot chocolate in the winter.

Plotter or pantser?

I'm methodical to the point of dividing my shopping list by aisles in the grocery store. I eat the same thing for breakfast every morning and go to bed about the same time every night.

Which would you think I am, plotter or pantser? If you guessed plotter, you’d be wrong. I may have initial ideas for a character or a scene floating around in my head, but then I sit down at my laptop and let my fingers fly. My goal is to give birth to great characters and hook a reader into an opening scene, and let the story flow organically from there.

Look to your right – what’s sitting there?

A printer. A glass of iced tea. Pictures of my hubby and sons. (Hmmm…no pics of the grandkids yet. I shall have to remedy that.) My calendar. Notes for my current wip. A Mother’s Day vase that my youngest son created for me while in 3rd grade (he’s now a college senior). The itinerary for a European cruise we’re considering taking this fall with my parents. The registration form for the 2013 Book ‘Em North Carolina Book Fair. Books on craft. An award for Journey’s Edge. CD’s that I never listen to. (Why haven’t I moved them somewhere else?) Paperwork from my latest book signing.

Anything new coming up from you? What?

I’m excited about the upcoming release of the third book in my Marshals of Journey Creek series, Journey’s Embrace.

After an injury forces Deputy U.S. Marshal Sage Michaelson off duty, he heads to his hometown with two things on his mind: recuperating and reevaluating, but Sage can’t refuse his best friend’s plea to keep a protective eye on his little sister after someone ransacks her house. But Delaney’s not so little anymore—and definitely not the young “Dane” Sage remembers.

Flight Medic Delaney Hunt has loved Sage forever. But, he’s all about control and order while she embraces life and takes risks. As much as the idea appeals to her, she doesn’t need Sage looking over her shoulder. But when things go wrong and she finds herself hanging by her fingertips, who does she call to rescue her?

Will Delaney ever be the woman Sage wants by his side? Can Sage learn to live by grace, recognizing that God is in control? Can they overcome their fears to embrace life together?

I couldn’t believe how sad I was to type the end on Journey’s Embrace, to close the Marshals series. I’d come to love Journey Creek and the characters who found a place to belong, to find love and their happily-ever-after.

But, it didn’t take me long to embrace Promise Lake, a fictional city in the mountains of North Carolina. I just submitted my first sweet novella in this series for consideration with White Rose Publishing. No danger. No suspense. Just a lot of heart-racing romance in When Truth Whispers. Want a peek?

After a humiliating breakup, best-selling romance author Teal Benning flees to Promise Lake to complete her current novel, minus paparazzi and flashing cameras. Suffering from writer's block and a broken heart, Teal accepts the offer of help from neighbor, Hunter Miciver. Hunter longs to be more than the friend who picks up the shattered pieces of Teal's heart. When Teal finds out his secret, will she see him for the man he is, a man of faith and devotion, a man who would cherish her for the rest of her days? Or will she lump him into the same category as all the other men in her life, including her father? Will Teal recognize when truth whispers her name?

Care to put in a good word for me?

Do you have a question for our readers?

Sure! I have a couple. Do you prefer reading an e-book or print book? Where is your favorite online source to buy books?

Thank you so much for inviting me to share with you today!

I asked Terri how she balanced the "inspirational" in the romance & suspense without preaching. How much is too much? How much is not enough? Here's what she had to say.

Thank you for having me today. This is a great question and I’ll answer as best I can.

The writing guidelines for Harlequin’s Love Inspired Suspense line states this about the inspirational aspect:
An element of faith must be present in the books, and should be well-integrated into the plot. The conflict between the main characters should be an emotional one, arising naturally from the story. The progression of the story must incorporate the faith journey of each protagonist, whether struggling to accept faith or simply being active in their church community. The suspense/mystery element can tie in to the faith element whether by aiding in solving the mystery, or strengthening hero/heroine in times of trial. By the end of the story, hero and heroine must be both believers and members of a church community.

In developing the characters and the plot this is the process I go through:

* Each character starts the story with a romantic need(to fall in love with the right person),an internal need (relating to the world at large) a faith need (even if character is a person of faith-their faith is not perfect) and a external/plot need (the story goal).

* Each character has a motivation (the why) for each of these needs. The romance, internal and faith motivations usually stem from something in the characters past. The plot motivation stems from something recent that has catapulted the characters into the story.

* Each character has conflicts/obstacles (both internal and external) as to why they can’t have these needs met.

* Each character has a coping device to sustain them against the conflict in order to simulate their need.

* Each character must sacrifice this coping device in order to achieve their real need in each of these areas.

* The result will be the characters fall in love, they’ve progressed in their faith journey and the external/plot conflict has been resolved.

Layering in the faith element is like building suspense in the story. In a suspense story, the writer doesn’t dump all the suspense/clues/mystery in one fell swoop, its spread out over the course of the story, upping the tension and danger until the final moment when the hero/heroine realizes the truth/captures the bad guy/saves the day.

In the same way the faith element is woven into the story by doling out small nuggets throughout the story, leading each character to the truth of their faith conflict so they can realize what they must sacrifice (coping device) in order to meet their need, which in turn allows them to be open to love and to move closer to God in their faith journey.

I hope this makes sense. Again, thank you for having me here to day.

Review: The Secret Heiress by Terri Reed

(A full length, contemporary inspirational suspense novel published by Love Inspired)

Finding out she is heir to a fortune shocks Caroline Tully to her core. And to “qualify” for the inheritance, she just has to visit her newfound grandfather’s Mississippi home from Christmas to New Year’s.

Adopted as a baby, Caroline knows nothing about her mother’s family...and doesn’t realize they can’t be trusted. When attempts are made on her life, there’s only one man who can protect her. Donovan Cavanaugh—a man who made her lonely heart want to love again. Posing as her fiancé, Don promises to find the would-be killer. But will his protection-and his love-be enough to keep her safe?

I started reading this book with the expectation that it would be just like many other inspirational romance books I've read. Was I ever wrong! After the first couple of pages, I couldn’t put the book down. The suspense kept building and I waited to be able to get a clue as to who was causing the problems for our heroine.

I read a lot of mysteries, and even so, I couldn’t predict the next move, or even get a clue as to what would happen next. It nearly made my heart stop. There were so many twists and turns in the plot and they were all very necessary for the story, and Ms. Reed's skillful plotting kept me guessing the entire time.

When I finally began to discover who was behind everything, and who was causing the problems, the urgency of the story still wasn’t over. When I finished the last page of the mystery, I gave a sigh of relief and waited for my heart to stop pounding.

If you're looking for a clever, heart-stopping suspense with a sweet romance lovingly woven throughout, with a Christian theme that doesn't beat you over the head, then I highly recommend "The Secret Heiress". It has everything a romantic suspense lover could ask for.

I give it 5 out of 5.
