She wasn’t meant for movie stars, Hollywood, or happy endings. And then she met him.
Happy Endings are for fairy tales. Or the movies. Not for real life. At least, not Claire’s life. Even though she’s starting over, she knows better than to want too much this time. But when she falls, literally, into the strong arms of Hollywood’s ‘it’ boy Josh Wiley, Claire’s in for some surprises. Her plans for rest and relaxation are forgotten as one incredible night with Josh becomes two… And her heart begins to want him as much as her body. Will two kids, one bastard ex-husband, and Josh’s juggernaut career mean the end of their affair? Or can Claire find her happy ending after all?
He’s a movie star, she’s an abused, divorced mother of two. They meet when she makes a trip to Hollywood to spend some time with an old school friend. This friend has all kinds of connections in Hollywood, and introduces her to Josh. There is an instant connection between them. This sounds unlikely doesn’t it? Yet, this author makes it real and believable.
I started reading expecting this story to be a rather typical romance. It isn’t. After the first couple of chapters, it becomes apparent that there is so much more to this story. The abuse that she has endured has definitely affected her. Josh, the movie star, is unlike most people in the public eye. He wants to be loved for himself, and he finds this quality in her.
They become more and more involved and become a couple. She goes back to her home in Texas, to make a decision about moving with her teenaged daughter and young son. Her ex-husband confronts her, and if her mother had not been present, could have caused significant damage to her physically.
There were times I had to stop reading because I became so tense over her situation. I closed my eyes, got up and decided to wait a while to read some more. When I couldn’t stop thinking about the story, I had to go back and start reading it again.
The children and the mother are delightful, Josh is wonderful and a great hero. They spend time in England, his home, and while there she is haunted with the vision of her ex-husband every time she turns around. He has become a stalker.
I can’t tell you any more about this story without spoiling it for you, but let me tell you that it is a heart stopper in many ways.
I really enjoyed this and loved the people. Although I had to catch my breath many times, it was definitely a book worth reading.
4 Flowers - This was a very good book!
Sasha Summers is part gypsy. Her passions have always been storytelling, history, romance, and travel. She writes both lyrical romantic fantasy and contemporary romance. Her first play was written for her Girl Scout troupe. She's been writing ever since. She loves getting lost in the worlds and characters she creates; even if she frequently forgets to run the dishwasher or wash socks when she's doing so. Luckily, her four brilliant children and hero-inspiring hubby are super understanding and supportive.

DeleteMJ...What a good review. The fact that you had to step away from the book a couple of times when it got intense is very telling.

I'm very intrigued - especially by the layer of depth suggested by the review. I've read so many novels that are all about the happy ever after. It's nice to read about a romance where the author takes a chance with some risky material. Cool.
ReplyDeleteJust popping in to say HI and sorry I missed visiting with you on party day! Hope you all had a good time!
