MEDIA KIT SecondhandRomance_w7433_750Annie O'Malley's dream of owning a secondhand bookstore in tight-knit Audubon Springs is coming true. Still reeling from her parents' sudden deaths, she believes that signs or messages can be found within the pages of books. She loves her job and has made plenty of friends but longs for the acceptance only love and a family can provide.

Tony Iuliano is there to fix the wiring in her shop. He doesn't believe in fate, magic, or the power of a good book. All this combined with his sexy-as-sin presence and all-knowing attitude infuriates Annie. The quirky bookworm intrigues him enough to accept her bet to read a book from her shop. When he discovers a stack of fifty-year-old love letters in the book, he wants to leave the past alone, but seeing it as a sign, Annie challenges him to read the letters and search for the long-lost lovers or lose the bet.

While shaking the dust off several ill-fated romances and fighting their attraction at every turn, the pair soon become the town gossip daily special. If they can stop arguing long enough, they may just discover this particular sign was meant for them all along.

Enjoy this excerpt:

“You should leave.” In a few jerky strides she reached the door and swung it open. “Until you can admit why you’re here, I don’t want you here.”

His hand came out of nowhere, startling her. He pushed the door shut and stood behind her, towering over, surrounding her with his heat. “What were you thinking, leaving with Quinn?” His voice rough in her ear, set her every nerve ending on fire.

Shaking, she turned to face him, but he didn’t step back. Instead he leaned on his forearm against the door above her head. Their mouths nearly collided. His scent, of the ball field and man, filled her lungs.

“I didn’t leave with him, he followed me out.” Unlike with Quinn, where she wanted to flee, she wanted Tony to lean forward, press his body against hers, give in to the desire in his eyes, and the heat rolling from him wrapping her in delicious waves.

His gaze shifted to her mouth, he licked his lips then looked back in her eyes. She bit her lower lip. Kiss me! His eyes drifted to her mouth again. He cupped her jaw with his free hand, looked in her eyes, then stepped away with a low curse. “What am I doing?”

“That’s what I’d like to know?” Stunned and frustrated, she leaned against the door. Blood pumped in her ears, a mix of desire and boiling anger. Impossible! How many times was he going to do this to her? Bring her to the edge of desire only to turn away? Maybe she needed to ask, how many times she’d let him? Chest heaving, she looked at him, a solid wall of muscle and conflicted man.

She’d come to this precipice with him as many times as it took.

Captured Lies by Maggie Thom-- Review

She was kidnapped not once but twice and now someone wants her dead because of it...

Her life was a lie!

Bailey knew her upbringing wasn’t normal but she’s worked hard to stabilize her life. At 29, she finally has a good business, a stable home; her life is miles from that of her childhood. Then suddenly her mother dies, leaving a gaping hole and a discovery that they may not even be related. If Guy, the private investigator is to be believed, her life is a lie. Using the skills she learned on the streets, Bailey travels back through a sketchy and dangerous past, to find answers. Dodging bullets, staying ahead of those who want her dead and convincing Guy she can do it alone, are making it difficult to discover not only the secrets of her mother’s past but that of a family claiming she is theirs.

Everyone seems to have a story... but who’s telling the truth? And who wants her dead? Is Guy part of the solution? Or part of the problem? To discover the facts, she’ll have to untangle a web of deceit, lies, and secrets, dating back over thirty years.

But can she do it in time...

My Review:

This is a fast-paced suspense that surrounds Bailey trying to figure out what is going on and not only who she truly is, but why everyone is suddenly wanting her dead.

I enjoyed this book, although there were a couple of points that it wasn't really clear to me how all the parties ended up at the same place at the same time. But, that did not effect the overall enjoyment of the book.

I liked the character of Bailey and understood her need to always be on guard--the lessons her mother instilled in her over her childhood were deep-rooted. And, I LOVED the character of Guy-- he was torn between his duty to his step-grandmother and his desire to protect Bailey.

The secondary characters were interesting and I would like to have known some of them better--perhaps if this is part of a series, I can get to know them better over time. There is still a lot of room for Guy and Bailey to grow both together and separately, and I would like to learn more about Graham.

Life Flight by Shaunna Wolf - Virtual Tour and Giveaway

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. The author will be awarding a $50 Amazon or BN gift card to one randomly drawn winner via the Rafflecopter below. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

Malachi Blackfeather has spent twenty years in the Army. Two of those years as a Vietnam POW. Now that he's out, all he wants is some peace and quiet to figure out what to do with the rest of his life. Between the flashbacks, and an over interest in sex that is now being called sex addiction, finding his path isn't easy.

Kat is trying to escape an abusive marriage. Her soon to be ex is a master at manipulating the system, and her family thinks she should stay with him, "because no other man will want her". She's looking for escape in any form she can get it.

When they meet, sparks fly. Trapped by a blizzard, can two damaged people, who think there is no chance of love in the world for them, find each other, and survive an unforeseen circumstance that puts both of them in danger?

Mystery, romance, and danger, fill this novel, with a story that will draw you in and not let go.

Now enjoy an excerpt:

The heater stood dark and cold. I should have gotten up after we were done. Filled it and restarted it. I hadn’t wanted to move. Still didn’t want to, despite the cold in the room. Dim light streamed in through the window, sleety snow still battered the glass. Shook the door in its frame. How long could this blizzard go on?

I tightened my arms around Kat. Forever. Then she would have to stay right in this room with me--in my arms. Nothing made sense, everything my life had been for the last twenty-five years rang like a bad dream, a nightmare from the pits of Vietnam. So dead inside that any feeling fed me, woman after woman, man after man, no one let me hold on to what I felt for more than a few shared moments. Lies whispered to the tiny ember of my soul that I had left. This is the one, they told me, this one will make you feel, will bring you back to life.

They never did.

Kat ran her hand down my arm. Snuggled closer to me. A chill that had nothing to do with how cold the room had become, shook me. Spoke to me. I could again with her, and I knew I would keep feeling what I was. Alive. Warm. As if I had a soul inside me, not just a demon who preyed on others for my next fix of emotions.

“I should fill that heater and get us some warmth again.”

“Yeah, I suppose one of us should,” she said with no intention to do so in her voice.

I tightened the bear’s embrace I held her in, tangled my legs with hers. She pushed at my arm, wanted to make me let go of her.

“I don’t want to let go of you yet,” I said. If I let her go, the surging emotions inside me would vanish with the warmth of holding her.

The Green Rose by Stephanie Burkhart - Review and Giveaway

Fantasy Romance

This review is done in conjunction with a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Stephanie will be awarding a $25 Amazon GC to a randomly drawn commenter during the tour. You can see the other stops on the tour by clicking the tour banner.

On the continent of Gaia, evil is brewing. Turncoat wizard, Balthyser, kidnaps the kings of Dahaka and Tapin. He wants the green rose, a source of powerful magic.

Princess Sonia of Tapin is forced to hunt down the rose in exchange for her father's life. It's the ultimate betrayal of Gaia's peace, but she has no choice if she wants to save her father.

Prince Ivánstan of Dahaka accompanies her on the journey. Both face challenges and obstacles that test their strength of character during the hunt for the rose. Dare Sonia put her trust and faith in a man she hardly knows to secure Gaia's peace or will the continent's harmony be shattered forever?

My review:  I read this book cover-to-cover in one afternoon.  I was honestly surprised that I did, and it's a credit to the author's voice because, honestly, it's not a deep book, nor does it have a particularly challenging conflict.  However, I was fully engaged in the honestly written characters, once I got everyone sorted out -- there are a LOT of people here and, especially in the beginning, I found myself having to go back and figure out just who was who and how they all fit together!

The story is pretty simple and involves a quest of sorts as do most fantasies.  Ivan and Sonia are instantly attracted, and other than a difficulty in trusting men and the chance that their fathers may not give them permission to marry, there wasn't much keeping them apart.  I honestly never worried that they'd not be together, but I really enjoyed Ivan's straightforward behavior -- I'm certain that's why he was able to win Sonia's trust fairly easily.

The quest, too, wasn't particularly fraught with danger or worry.  Things seemed to be fairly simple for them, despite their footsteps being dogged by Sonia's ex-fiancĂ©.  Still, again, it was engaging and so smooth to read.

This is the second book by this author that I've read, and I'm truly impressed by her ability to craft characters that I care about.  Her plots may not be the most nail-bitingly suspenseful or particularly complex, but they're strong enough to keep my attention and the time I spend reading her books just flies by.  I wasn't a fan of the few words she used quirky spelling on, like "myles" instead of "miles" and "fyte" for "foot".  It wasn't necessary and was one of the few things that really distracted me as I read.

All-in-all, though The Green Rose was a book that engaged me, entertained me, and left me with a smile. What more can I ask?

This book easily earned 4 Flowers from me -- This was a very good book! I'd recommend it to my friends.

Summertime Dream by Babette James - Virtual Tour and Giveaway

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Babette will award a $10 Amazon GC to two (2) randomly drawn commenters during the tour. Please follow the tour by clicking on the banner for a listing of all her stops.

NOTE: THIS BOOK IS FREE AT AMAZON DURING THE TOUR!! Click here for your own copy!

The Fourth of July is over, but for these summer lovers the fireworks have just begun.

An unexpected inheritance brings business consultant Christopher Gordon from Los Angeles to quaint Falk’s Bend. He’s carved a week from his demanding schedule to list his great-grandparents’ house for sale and explore his roots. However, disturbing family secrets and the sweet temptation of writer Margie Olsson derail his plans, challenging him to seize the elusive dream missing from his hectic life — love.

A recent brush with death shook Margie’s life, but not her dreams and she’s ready to move forward. Only, standing up to her loving, over-protective family isn’t easy. Helping Christopher explore the derelict mansion and unravel his grandmother’s mysterious past should be a harmless fun taste of independence. But when her experimental summer fling ignites into unexpected love, how can her small town dreams work with his big city life?

Now enjoy an excerpt:

She tippy-toed after him up the side porch steps, careful to avoid putting the high heels of her sandals through the old wood. “We’re not wearing the best exploring clothes.” She smoothed her hands over the skirt of her dress. Both of them were dressed more for church or a dinner date.

He regarded her from beside the boarded front door, his steady gaze pausing on her mouth before flinching upward. “You look great. Really pretty in that peach color.” A flush rose in his cheeks, and he focused on sorting through the neatly labeled ring of keys.

Her own cheeks burned. Was he also remembering those kisses yesterday? “Thanks.”

Christopher removed the padlock and swung open both panels, revealing the screen doors and the original ornamented and leaded glass double entry doors, both curving into a graceful peaked arch like a church door.

“Oh, all the glass is safe. Isn’t it beautiful?”

Christopher nodded as he fit an old-fashioned key into the ornate brass lock. He gripped the doorknob and took a deep breath. “Ready?”

The hinges whined and creaked as he pushed the door inward. Daylight wedged into the short entry vestibule, revealing another doorway formed by elegant leaded glass sidelights and transom, and faded across the hardwood floor into the gloomy grand entry hall. Disturbed dust floated through the sunlight.

Christopher flicked on the flashlight and stepped into the once-majestic hall. Margie followed, nose wrinkling at the musty stale air. He swung the light upward, revealing an elaborate lamp fixture hanging from a plaster medallion, the crystal pendants festooned with spider webs. “Our very own haunted house, huh?”

Babette James writes sweetly scorching contemporary romance and loves reading nail-biting tales with a satisfying happily ever after. When not dreaming up stories, she enjoys playing with new bread recipes and dabbling with paints. A teacher, she loves encouraging new readers and writers as they discover their growing abilities. Her class cheers when it’s time for their spelling test! Born in New Jersey and raised in Southern California, she’s had a life-long love of the desert and going down the shore. Babette now lives in New Jersey with her wonderfully patient husband and extremely spoiled cats.

The Mason Dixon Line by Linda Morris - Virtual Tour and Giveaway

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions.

Linda will award a $50 Amazon GC to one randomly drawn winner via the Rafflecopter at the end of this post.

Thanks to Linda for answering all our prying questions.

Why do you write in your genre? What draws you to it?

Thanks for having me at Its Raining Books. Your blog title reminds me of the Simpsons episode where we find out that Homer Simpson's favorite song is "It's Raining Men," but I digress.

Romance is the only genre I've ever wanted to write, except for when I read Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House (a very scary book!) and thought for literally ten minutes that I might want to be a horror writer. It's a good thing I got over that. I'm way too much of a weenie to be a horror writer. But even before I discovered romance novels, I always loved the romantic storylines in Nancy Drew books or Anne of Green Gables.

I guess I love stories about relationships. All relationships, really, but romantic ones in particular. I've never been as interested in fantasy/paranormal stories because the focus on a relationship is not usually there. This is my first New Adult story. I didn't really set out to write a New Adult story, but as I wrote, I kept feeling that the characters were acting a bit "younger" than their late 20s, which is how I originally planned them. I just kept revising downward, and then my first beta reader, the talented Elizabeth Otto, pointed out that I had written a New Adult story. Duh!

What research is required?

It really depends. For The Mason Dixon Line, I had to do some research on chameleons because the hero has one for a pet. He also has ADHD/dyslexia. I had the ADHD part covered because both my husband and son have it -- no research required there! -- but I did have to research dyslexia. And finally, he's a cartoonist, so I had to do some research on drawing and illustrating books as well.

Name one thing you learned from your heroine.

Wow, what an interesting question. I think from Carolyn I learned that as cliché as it may sound, money and beauty doesn't make for a perfect life. Carolyn has plenty of problems and insecurities despite having those two very big privileges. In some ways, she's worse off than Mason, who grew up with special needs that weren't understood and parents who didn't care much about him. She's had smothering parents who won't let her cut the apron strings, and as a result, she's much less independent than Mason.

Do you have any odd or interesting writing quirks, habits or superstitions?

Not really, although I'm slower than practically everybody on Twitter. I try to focus on making daily progress in my story, not just word count. If I have to delete a scene that's not working and replace it with a shorter scene that works better, my overall word count goes down, but I count that as a victory because my story is closer to where it needs to be.

Are you a plotter or pantser?

A plantser? Potser? I guess I'm a combination of both. I follow Debra Dixon's wonderful method of coming up with a goal, motivation and conflict for my characters. I have some plot points in mind and an ending, but I sort of pants it when it comes to moving from Points A to B to C.

Look to your right – what’s sitting there?

A little Nanoblocks model that my son built of Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany. It's only about four inches high but contains more than 500 pieces!

Anything new coming up from you? What?

I'm working on a series about a minor league baseball team in small-town Indiana. The first book in the series, High Heat, has landed me an agent, the fabulous Dawn Dowdle at Blue Ridge Literary Agency, so I'm hopefully I'll have some news about that shortly. I've also got a contemporary vacation fling story, Nice Work if You Can Get It, coming later this year from Swoon Romance, and something else coming out that I really can't talk about yet. ;o)

Do you have a question for our readers?

Sure! New Adult is so popular right now. Do you read a lot of it, and if so, why? Do you read other romance as well? What do you like about New Adult compared to say, straight contemporary romance? (Okay, I guess I cheated, because that's four questions.) Thanks so much for having me here today!

Carolyn Hart has excelled at one thing her whole life: looking good. She's always had the beauty, the style, and the attitude to turn heads. But making her own way in the world turns out to be a lot tougher than getting electing homecoming queen. She has no idea what she wants to do with her life, her credit card balance is becoming self-aware, and her love life is DOA. And now her boss at Horizons, a school for kids with special needs, has given her an unwelcome assignment: to work with a cartoonist to create a kids' book as a fundraiser for the school.

Former troubled kid Mason Dixon would do anything for the aunt who took him in after his parents gave up on him. But when he offers to illustrate a kids' book as a fundraiser for her pet cause, he winds up taking on way more than he bargained for. The gorgeous teacher's aide he's assigned to work with challenges him at every turn and makes him wonder if there's any line he won't cross for her.

Now enjoy an excerpt:

"Got a pen?" Mason asked her.

She rifled through her purse. "Yeah, here. Why?"

"Thought I'd do some drawing. Waiting is boring."

"We've been waiting like thirty seconds."

"And I've been bored for thirty seconds. I'd rather draw."

She watched him stroke his pen across his napkin and frown when the pen's nib tore the paper. "This napkin sucks. Got any paper?"

She dug through her purse again until she found a long receipt. "Sure." She handed it over.

He eyed it. "You blew two hundred and fifty-six bucks at Victoria's Secret?"

"Hey, I gave it to you so you could draw, not criticize. No judging!" Flushing, she grabbed for the receipt but he held it out of her reach, grinning. He was cute when he smiled. Damn him.

"Who said I was judging? That purchase actually sounds worthwhile." His lips curved and she had the oddest sensation he was imagining what she might have bought. "What was it? Two hundred and fifty bucks ought to buy a lot of lingerie."

She scowled. "You'll never see it, so don't worry about it."

"Oh, I don't plan on seeing it. But I can dream, can't I?"

"Is that the Mason Dixon version of flirtation?" She crooked one eyebrow. He didn't plan on seeing it? That was a first. No guy had ever come right out and admitted he had no shot at seeing her scantily clad.

Most men were optimistic that way, even if it was totally unfounded.

He looked down at the receipt and began to doodle, his cheeks reddening. "I wouldn't say I was flirting with you."

Linda Morris is a writer of contemporary romance. She writes stories with heart and heat, along with a joke or two thrown in. Her book Melting the Millionaire's Heart was an Amazon Top 100 Series Romance bestseller.

When she's not writing, working, or mommying, she's doing yoga, reading, working in her flower garden, or baking delicious things she probably shouldn't eat. She believes that there are two kinds of people: pie people and cake people, and she is definitely one of the former. Her years of Cubs fandom prove she has a soft spot for a lost cause. A beat-up old copy of Kathleen Woodiwiss's Ashes in the Wind was her gateway drug into the world of romance novels, and she's never looked back.

The Billionaire's Best Friend by Christina Tetreault - Review and Giveaway

Contemporary Romance

This review is posted in conjunction with a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. The author will be awarding a $25 Amazon or BN GC via the Rafflecopter at the end of this post. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

Despite a wonderful family, a career she loves, and great friends, a void has existed in Lauren McDonald's life ever since her best friend Callie married billionaire Dylan Talbot. Although they have remained close, Lauren and Callie now lead very different lives, that is until Lauren meets wealthy CEO Kevin Walsh. Lauren believes he could be the man who will help make her life whole again. That is until the night Nathaniel Callahan, her high school sweetheart and the one man she has always loved, shows up.

Although Nate ended things with Lauren before heading off to The Naval Academy and his life with the Marines, he never stopped loving her. Now 15 years later he is back to correct the mistake he made all those years ago.

With Nate back in town, Lauren must decide between the man who promises her the world and the man who has the power to crush her heart again.

My Review: This story started off sounding like a typical romance:  Boy loves girl, boy leaves girl for what he thinks is a good reason, but returns after fifteen years expecting to pick up where he left off.

Wrong.

The hero and the heroine have a serious problem with communication. They never seem to understand what the other person really meant, and why they did what they did.

When Nate finished his stint in the Marines and returned, it was to find that Lauren was involved with someone else. He, of course, assumed that once he talked to her they could get back together. Wrong again. She was not in a mood to forgive him and this is how the story proceeds.

He kept trying to make her understand why he had done what he had done by leaving her, and of course, it made absolutely no sense to her. This conflict was really fascinating. It showed how differently men and women think. This author really wrote it correctly. I enjoyed watching them try, unsuccessfully, to make the other person understand their position.

Finally, when they did get together, Nate assumed it was all okay, and things were just like they had been fifteen years before. Wrong again.

I felt like shaking him when he made all kinds of decisions without consulting Lauren. Why do men think that this what women want? I really enjoyed reading this book. It was fascinating to go into the minds of each of them.

4 Flowers - This was a very good book! I'd recommend it to my friends.

I wrote my first story with characters similar to those in the Sweet Valley Twins books at the age of 10 on my grandmother's manual typewriter. As I got older my stories and characters became more mature. During my freshman year at UMass Dartmouth, I read my first romance novel and fell in love with the genre. I have been writing contemporary romance ever since.

Today I live with my husband, three beautiful daughters and two dogs in Massachusetts. Whenever I have a free moment you'll find me either reading a romance novel or working on my most current story.

It’s May 1996 and Marietta High School English teacher Kate MacCreadie is almost at the end of her rope, torn between the demands of her work and her heavy involvement in helping her younger brother Rob and his wife Melinda take care of their five young children on the MacCreadie family ranch.

When Marietta’s fine-looking new sheriff, Harrison Pearce, pulls Kate over for her third traffic violation in as many months, they both know it’s a sign that something has to give.

Kate finds it almost a relief to be told by this calm, strong man to get her life in order, and then she just keeps on seeing him - at school after there’s been a suspicious break-in, on the evening of the prom when he’s off duty and driving his nephew and friends to the event in one of his brother’s gorgeous vintage cars.

Late that night, after prom is over, a tragedy at River Bend Park brings Kate and Harrison together yet again, and this time, in the highly charged atmosphere, Kate discovers that she never wants to let him go. But with his divorce still fresh, is Harrison ready for someone new?

Enjoy an excerpt:

“Kate,” Harrison said, reaching her. He looked happy to see her. His dark eyes contained an intent light and their focus was very steady.

“Hi,” she said. “I’ve been tasked to show you the break-in, since I was the one who found it.”

She knew she was blushing a little. They’d had such a great conversation, looking over his place last month. She’d had this shy, tentative little idea that he might call and ask her out, afterward, but he hadn’t and silly, romantic Kate had required a good, cheerful talking to from sensible, cynical Kate to put the idea out of her mind.

It was probably the three sets of glasses on your head and the four traffic violations, Kate. He thinks you’re a lunatic, and dangerous.

Harrison introduced the police detective, Greg Holding, who asked, “Has everything been left just as it was when you first saw it?”

“Um, yes, come this way and I’ll show you.” She almost took Harrison’s arm, pulling back just in time. It wasn’t the occasion for touching a man, for heaven’s sake, and especially not a man like this, in uniform! “There’s a lot of broken glass. Mr Earnshaw wanted to sweep it up, but I thought you both should see it first, on the chance there’s—”

Evidence. But she didn’t say this, in case they thought she’d been watching too many TV cop shows and crime dramas. Or in case she was gabbling.

“Good thinking,” Harrison said, and she felt ridiculously happy about the praise.

They smiled at each other, and her whole day changed.

Five Things You Might Not Know About Aedan Byrnes

First off, thank you for having me here. I’ve wracked my brain for things that are unknown or lesser known that are okay to share as I’m a very private person. I think however, in the interest of giving a glimpse of who I am, I’ll do this instead of the interview questions.

Perhaps known, but not widely, is the fact that I live with chronic pancreatitis. This is a disabling situation when it flares up, however as a writer it is a mixed blessing. Sedentary activity or bed rest is a common recourse and I do not get to eat, or I am on a clear liquid diet, which is good because I lose track when I write anyway, so I try to think of it as my body telling me I need to write. It’s not, but optimist/pessimist…it’s always a choice. I choose optimist.

Virtually unknown is that I am a classically trained double horn player. Basically it means that of the multitude of different ways to play the note, I know them all and can intersperse the single and double finger positions. To me this is interesting because it is indicative of the choices I make as a writer. I can tell a tale any number of different ways, straight forward, bent with emotional notes or a bit of both. Writing is a string of choices just as a piece of music is for a hornist.

Third on the list of five is perhaps tongue in cheek, but absolutely true. I do all of my own stunts. I have taken the skin off my hands rappelling without gloves before I knew how to descend without gloves, and I learned a value lesson about specs completely by accident. I have specs to prevent burning my eyes when I singed off my eyebrow and caught myself on fire using mineral potting mix to douse a flame. I’m a trial and error sort, which you can imagine leads to all kinds of fun as a writer.

Next up; I like my potato crisps plain and folded. Sure, there are lots of fancy ones out there, but the plain ones that rolled over in the fryer and have that pocket of air in the middle have an extra crunch that I like. I’m not averse to trying new ones or different ones, but at the end I’ve found that the plain with a spot of salt works for me. Sort of like a favorite pen or chair when I sit to write, something’s are just the best of the lot.

Last up, I don’t like the spotlight. I enjoy immensely spending time with people and talking books or writing, so long as I’m not the focus. I feel like everything I write, dream, or plot is a collaborative effort between me, the pen, and the characters. It isn’t about me, it’s about the work. So, if you want to laud over it and talk about it, great. I’m just the conduit that got it here, it isn’t about me. I really like sitting in the background watching others enjoy it over talking about myself and the things I thought while I was bringing it to the page, it’s just not who I am.

I hope this helps shed a little light on who I am or things that people might be curious to know. I appreciate you hosting me and giving me the chance to poke some fun at myself and share with you and your readers. Stop by and say hello sometime. I’m on Goodreads, or to connect with me you can find me at:

In the blackest night, with the moon and stars to guide him, she would always be there waiting…

Cyrenna thought she died the day she watched Tynan and his brothers jump through the banishment portal in an act of solidarity with Rigor. Little did she know, it would be the first of many deaths she would experience in her quest to claim his heart. She would surrender not only her immortal soul, but a mortal one repeatedly. Through a deal with the great Oracle, she has multiple mortal lifetimes to change the direction of her future and have a chance with Tynan.

Her journey spans the ages from the GenPei War in Japan and the Silk Road west, to Cromwell, the Three Kingdoms and modern times, bringing her one step closer to forever until she makes a misstep. Then, the burden falls to Tynan. The only thing that is absolute is her fervent hope that he will come, but there’s one big problem.

Through it all, he doesn’t so much as know her name.

About the Author: There is no simple description for Aedan Byrnes. Obsessive, dreamer, reclusive, compulsive, outdoorsman and wordsmith would be among the list if one were started. The displaced Gael lives in the upper Midwest with family between jaunts wherever the road takes him. A frequent traveler, he is as likely to be found rock climbing or spelunking as sitting fireside dreaming or aimlessly floating away.

A lifelong lover of words and writing, he claims a diverse reading appetite and his writing reflects the myriad influences. A self-proclaimed 'reader's writer', he looks for the emotional and the sensory in word combinations, not just the visceral comprehension of phrases in the stories he crafts and his love of all things literary shines through.

The Hathor Legacy by Deborah A. Bailey - Interview and Giveaway

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Deborah will be awarding a print copy (US ONLY) of Hathor Legacy: Outcast to two randomly drawn commenters during the tour, and a Grand Prize of a $25 Amazon GC will be awarded to one randomly drawn commenter during the tour.

Why do you write in your genre? What draws you to it?

I've always enjoyed science fiction and fantasy. So when I get an idea for a story, it's usually in one of those genres. I grew up watching the Twilight Zone and Star Trek. With that type of setting, there are endless ideas for stories. But the best thing is that you can identify with the characters and their situations, no matter where the stories are set.

What world-building is required?

I think that depends on your genre. With fantasy you can create a world and make your own rules. But with science fiction things have to be plausible. As I was writing, I did a lot of research into different types of gadgets. Based on the technology we have now, how will things evolve? I'll give you an example. In my book, there are no conventional cars as we know them. The vehicles drive themselves using computerized traffic lanes. Well, something similar already exists today, though they're still being tested. My book also has aircars that fly short distances throughout the city. Well, I recently saw that a car that you can fly and drive home after landing does exist. It may go on sale as early as 2015. These things are not only plausible in a futuristic world, they're already being invented.

Name one thing you learned from your hero/heroine.

Nadira (my heroine) has taught me that working to make things better will always beat cynicism. She's passionate in her beliefs and she has a desire to improve things for people in her society. A lot of people around her are ambitious for power and status, and they expect her to be the same way. But she stays true to her beliefs and doesn’t lose focus. That's inspiring, especially at times when you might feel discouraged about reaching your goals.

Do you have any odd or interesting writing quirks, habits or superstitions?

I'm not sure if it's a quirk, but before I work on a story, I have to know the character names before I write about them. There's something about having a name that helps me to get a feel for who the character is. I don't bother with biographies because the character will tell me who they are as I go along. Most of the time, it starts with a conversation in my head that one character is having with another, then I go from there.

Are you a plotter or pantser?

Most definitely a pantser! For years I wrote short stories, so it was much easier to write without having a lot of plot points written down. But with this novel that wasn't going to work. So I created a synopsis to give me a roadmap of where the story should start and end. With the synopsis, I have something that keeps me on track when ideas pop up that might take me off course.

Look to your right – what’s sitting there?

My first computer! It's a Packard Bell from the '90's. And yes, it still works. It's got a huge monitor by today's standards, so that's on a table next to my desk. I'm not sure why I still have it, other than sentimental reasons. However, I do use it from time to time to play games that run on Windows 95. I was a computer programmer for many years, so might explain my attachment to it.

Anything new coming up from you? What?

I'm hard at work on book two of the Hathor Legacy series. It's called Hathor Legacy: Burn. It'll have a lot of the characters from the first book, and a few new ones. Jonathan and Nadira will be returning and their relationship will be continuing to grow - but not without a few challenges along the way. The story will fill in more backstory about the Guardians and Hathor.

Do you have a question for our readers?

When you're reading a romance, do you prefer that the H/H have an instant attraction? Or would you prefer that their attraction build over time?

Thanks so much for inviting me to stop by your blog and share my book with your readers!

On the planet, Hathor, a powerful group called the Guardians serves as the security force for Novacorp, the corporation that runs Hathor with its ruthless monopoly. Nadira, as one of the most powerful Guardians, is expected to use her intuition and telekinetic powers to keep the capital city safe from thieves and intruders.

Jonathan Keel, son of a mine CEO on the nearby planet, Astarte, is wealthy, privileged and used to getting what he wants. When his father goes missing after a robbery and explosion at the mine, he defies the authorities and heads to Hathor to search for him and for the robbers.

Struggling with their growing desires, and chased by company security, Jon and Nadira find that solving the crime leads them to endure betrayals from the people closest to them, as secrets are revealed that not only link their pasts but also threaten to destroy Jon's family and separate him from Nadira forever.

Enjoy an excerpt:

Nadira walked through the open doorway that led to the kitchen. It was empty, except for some instant food packs that were on the counter next to the deep, stone sink.

She examined one of them. Fish soup, not exactly appetizing. It was enough to make her miss Jason's cheerful house. Back in the dining room, she peeled off her damp jacket and draped it over the back of a chair.

Rain pelted the window, leaving streaks across the glass. Zina wouldn't be a threat while this kept up.

A boom of thunder shook the house, echoing through the empty room. "Jon?" she called out. No answer. "Jonathan!"

Her response was a thud, followed by another one. Nadira rushed up the stairs. Breathless, she checked the first room. It was empty except for a chair facing the window. Darting to the room across from it, she got there in time to see Jonathan wrapping a blanket around him, his boots on the floor.

"What's wrong?" he asked.

"Why didn't you answer?"

"My shirt's wet. Figured this was warmer." He climbed on the bed. "Worried about me?"

"No!" He was the most exasperating man she'd ever met. "You like taking your clothes off, don't you?"

"I thought you liked to see me naked." He chuckled. "But I still have my pants on."

Nadira sat down on the edge of the bed, her back to him. Kicking off her shoes, she drew her legs up and sat cross-legged. Though she could feel a desire to be closer to him, she pushed it away. She was not going to give him the satisfaction.

Realizing You by Ron Doades and Susan Sloate - Interview and Giveaway

Welcome to It's Raining Books-- What part of the writing process do you dread?

Without question—proof reading. I hate details. My heaven is a place where I can develop new ideas, put a team together, and manage the team in bringing those ideas to fruition. I would leave the details to others, while managing the team and moving on to new ideas. Unfortunately (I guess), that is not the world I have placed myself in. My consulting practice requires an enormous amount of detail work, from research to (yes) proofing reports, promotional materials, and coaching others through writing assignments. The details involved in authoring Realizing You seemed, at times, overwhelming. At the outset, I thought I would be able to delegate proofing responsibilities to others. While I did, and the proof readers did good jobs, I discovered that the prime author must bear the ultimate responsibility for ensuring that the final manuscript is as error-free as possible. After all that detailed work, I must confess: I now hate proof reading even more. You might suggest: “Move on.” I am, but this question allowed me one last venting opportunity, in public.

What is your favorite joke?

I don’t really tell or recall good jokes, so I’m going to stretch my response a little. It’s not really a joke, but a funny question that we have all heard too many times: “Why did the chicken cross the road?” “To get to the other side.” Why is this my favorite funny question? Because the humor in it contains a very important life lesson. That lesson is: be consciously aware of where you want your actions to take you. Think and act purposely. A few people that I have run across seem to drift through life, without a long-term and fulfilling life objective. A lot of us are leading our lives on automatic pilot, based on setting our personal destination on out-dated and/or ill-conceived information. We are crossing the road (of live) without clearly defining what success looks like (safety and happiness). So, now might be a good time to think what you and that chicken have in common. I cross the road with that chicken every day of my life.

Where do you get your best ideas?

From everywhere. From just taking in and reaching out for new experiences and knowledge. My idea for a new genre book seemed to come of the blue. The idea for my next book came from observing the way my favorite bartender treats his customers. He is vigilantly aware and respectful of his customers’ space. Not being intrusive, but readily responsive. Being aware when a customer is intruding on another’s space, and acting subtlety to help. Most of all, my best ideas come when I am least expecting them. I get a lot of good ideas during my brisk daily walks, when I soaking up the atmosphere, while experiencing a relaxing “high.” All of sudden, a significant new insight pops into my head on a topic I may have been wrestling with for some time. For me, new ideas come from free-form thinking, not from a disciplined idea-generation process.

What do you do to relax?

Jogging is my favorite means of relaxing. I’ve been doing it regularly for decades. I take it slow and easy, but still attain a jogger’s high. No ear buds for me. No thinking of what I can’t wait to do when my jog is over. In my semi-meditative state of mind, I am not fully aware of my surroundings. I’ve have occasions when I don’t get my three-times-a-week jog in. I feel physically frustrated and lethargic. And, I’m often cranky—not much fun to be around. After a relaxing jog, I feel refreshed and energized.

Do you write about what turns you on?

Since most of my writing is business non-fiction, what turns me on is the process of creating something new—something that never existed before in the same form or mode. The human aspect of what turns me on about writing is the goal of helping people down the pathway to greater happiness. Like most people, I want to leave the world in a better place than when I entered it. Helping people and companies to more productive and fulfilling lives is what I get to do five days a week in my business. And, that’s what turned me on to conceiving and authoring Realizing You. I believe the book will help people to permanently improve themselves though better behavior habits. That’s what turned me on in developing this book and in other creative endeavors.

1_29 Cover_Dangerous WatersFor Emily Waters, a nature-loving, small-town girl with an overprotective father, heading off to Boston University to study conservation biology is a dream come true—until a chance encounter catapults her into a mythical world she’d do anything to escape.

The latest victim in a rash of abductions near campus, Emily is brutally attacked before being rescued by a powerful new friend. She survives the ordeal, only to find herself held captive and presented with an impossible choice.

While preparing for the unimaginable life she must now embrace clues soon emerge that Emily may not be entirely human, and her physical transformation awakens goddess-like powers that her new family cannot begin to explain.

Dealing with her human first love, the not-so-platonic relationship with her coven “sister,” and her new vampire sort-of-boyfriend further complicates matters, not to mention being secretly hunted by the psychopaths who attacked her. And as the only known offspring of a once all-powerful race, the climactic battle is only the beginning of her journey.

Here's an excerpt:

“Would you stop already?” Teresa grumbled, glaring at her ever-pacing brother. “No one’s following us. Relax.”

Travis finished scanning Beacon Street and ducked back into the alleyway. “God damn it! Do you ever listen? I told you we had to cool it for a while. What the hell were you thinking?”

“The bitch spilled her drink on me.”

He sighed and tiredly rubbed his eyes. Arguing with her was like trying to reason with a bratty three-year-old grabbing candy in a grocery checkout line. “So we’re homeless because someone accidentally got diet coke on your shirt?”

“Quit being such a queen,” Teresa said with a huff. “You know Stefan thinks of us as his kids, which is totally weird by the way. All he’ll do is make us listen to his rules again. If you wouldn’t have talked me into running, we’d probably be watching TV by now.”

“If Stefan and Alexander just wanted to talk, they would’ve waited until we got back, not raided our feeding room like a two-man S.W.A.T. team. This is serious, Terr. If they find us, they’re going to kill us.”

For the first time in as long as he could remember, his snarky, narcissistic sister looked vulnerable. She crossed her arms to conceal her jittery hands and looked into his eyes. “So what do we do? I’m not living on the street again, or in the skuzzy-ass hotels we used to stay in.”

Travis placed a comforting hand on his baby sister’s shoulder. “Things aren’t like they used to be, sis. Even you have to admit that Stefan taught us a hell of a lot. Once we get out of town, we can trance a bank manager and get all the money we need. I thought we’d head south—you always wanted to see Orlando.”

Acting as if he hadn’t even spoken, Teresa shrugged off his hand and headed further down the dimly lit alley, veering around overflowing dumpsters and piles of loose garbage before slumping back against the brick wall behind her. “And what about the skank who started all this? We just leave her to her fairy-tale life, sipping wine in her mansion?”

Behaving Badly by Kristen Beairsto - Interview and Giveaway

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Kristen will be awarding an eCopy of Behaving Badly to five randomly drawn commenters during the tour, and a Grand Prize of the complete set of all 5 of Kristen's ebooks to one randomly drawn commenter during the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

Welcome to It's Raining Books. Why do you write in your genre? What draws you to it?

I love contemporary romances because there's so much possibility with everyday situations. I write in the genre because I love trying to make something special and magical out of the ordinary.

What research is required?

Most of the research I have to do involves state laws or police procedures. Or if there's special information that my characters need to know. In one of my previous books, Going After the Heart, I had to research about bears because my heroine and her daughter are cornered by a bear in the back woods of Oregon. Being a city girl from San Diego, I had to figure out everything I needed to know to make it work for the story.

Name one thing you learned from your hero/heroine.

It wasn't something I learned new, but more reminded of: there's always someone there willing to help. In Behaving Badly, Delaney gets caught up in the mindset that she's solely responsible for the survival of the family business and her family's livelihood. The reality was she wasn't alone in that responsibility, her sister was there to help and shoulder some of it too.

Do you have any odd or interesting writing quirks, habits or superstitions?

I don't think they're weird, but I'm sure others do. LOL! One of the things I'll do if I'm having trouble with a scene is read it out loud and use different voices for the characters. :-)

Are you a plotter or pantser?

For the longest time I was a pantser, but over the last year I've become a plotter. I have no idea why it's taken me so long to become a plotter, I try to plan nearly everything else in my life. LOL! But I've found that I write so much faster when I have everything plotted out.

Look to your right – what’s sitting there?

As I'm answering this, one of my five brother-in-laws. Yes, I said five. Hubby comes from a big blended family. LOL! He's on his computer looking at equipment for the family excavation business. :-)

Anything new coming up from you? What?

As far as writing goes, I'm just working on promoting Behaving Badly along with my new non-fiction, Treat It Like A Business: An Author's Guide to Setting-Up the Business Side of Writing. Personally, my family is prepping for moving to another state during the spring. Very exciting! But this big change is going to prevent me from coming out with anything new until after the summer.

Do you have a question for our readers?

Yes! I'd love to hear about what your favorite character point of view to read in is. I've started writing a story for the first time in the first person point of view and am loving it. I've also recently discovered some authors that write mostly in the first person and really enjoy their books. So I'm curious to hear what people think of first person romance stories.

Delaney Pierce is desperate, no, determined, to rebuild the family business, Manners Matter, after the disaster her own mother brought down on it, and her, a year ago. With two crazy aunts living life moving from one misadventure to the next and her younger sister waitressing to help make ends meet, she pins her hopes on her commission to curb the undesirable habits of Cyrus Chapman, one of New York's premier businessmen and one of the city's most eligible bachelors.

Her resolve to succeed with Cyrus is immediately put to the test during her very first meeting with him and she realizes that no matter how much she prepared for all that was Cyrus, it all paled in comparison to the real man. Things only get worse when he starts hinting at wanting more than a professional relationship.

But Delaney can’t entertain the idea of having more than a professional relationship with Cyrus. After all, that’s something her mother would do and she’s not about to start emulating that woman now. However, fighting her attraction to Cyrus becomes harder and harder the more she’s around him and she finds herself wondering if she’s become so wrapped up in trying not to be her mother that she’s forgotten to just to be herself.

As he stepped up to the door, he wondered briefly what a life coach would look like.

Probably a tall skinny guy that weighed about a buck fifty soaking wet with slicked back hair, who thought he knew everything. He hated know-it-alls.

Shoving open his office door, ready for a fight, he spotted the focus of his irritation staring out the window behind his desk, her back to him.

He froze. A woman?!

Clearly hearing him enter, she turned to face him.

Pushing the door closed behind him, he took his time looking her over.
,br> Despite the neat black skirt falling modestly below her knees and the trim blazer that didn’t give away a hint of any of the skin beneath it, failed to hide an obviously curvy figure. A definite change from the usual stick figure models he normally associated with, but he had to admit, he’d always liked navigating curves.

He noted she held her hands clasped in front of her, creamy skinned hands that matched the creamy skin of her oval shaped face that wore a carefully blank expression. She watched him from a pale aqua gaze that concealed any thoughts that might be going through her mind.

At least he’d been correct about the slicked back hair. What appeared to be deep fiery strands were smoothed back severely into a bun at the base of her skull.

He wondered what she’d look like with her hair down around her shoulders.

Naked.

Under him.

Mentally kicking himself for letting his mind go there, he shoved his hands into his pockets. She firmly belonged on his Do-Not-Touch list at the moment. Besides, he didn’t need a prissy life coach in his bed. She’d probably try to lecture him on what to do.

“Hello, I’m Delaney Pierce.” Her smooth timbre held only the slightest of hints of a city accent.

About the Author: In between her to-be-read pile and trying to bring the characters in her head alive, Kristen spends as much time as she can with family and friends. Much to her husband’s dismay, she enjoys collecting purses, shoes, and jewelry. During those rare times she’s not working at her day job, rushing her daughters somewhere, watching movies with her husband, and trying to meet a deadline, she can usually be found energetically cheering for one of her favorite New York sports teams.

As with just about every other writer on the planet, Kristen grew up an avid reader. She started with young adult before she technically hit the age range and moved on to sci-fi classics by Isaac Asimov and Ray Bradbury. At fifteen, her best friend gave her a book she just had to read! The book was Honest Illusions by Nora Roberts. Always a sucker for a happy ending, she was a goner and fell in love with the romance genre. Having started writing novel length stories at the age of eleven, Kristen’s stories all took a romantic turn from that point on.
