Liar, Liar by Nancy Boyarsky

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Nancy Boyarsky will be awarding a $15 Amazon or B/N GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

Nicole Graves finds herself in the crosshairs when she reluctantly agrees to babysit a witness in a high-profile rape trial. Mary Ellen Barnes is suing her university’s star quarterback for rape when the authorities won’t act. In the court of public opinion, Mary Ellen appears to be the quintessential, pious, good girl. But her lies and mysterious comings and goings lead Nicole to suspect that she’s not what she seems.

Read an Excerpt

Nicole called Detective Martinez. They agreed to meet at the morgue in an hour.

Nicole brushed her teeth, washed her face, and dabbed on some lipstick. Once she was in the car, she headed for the Hollywood Freeway, which would take her to East L.A. and Boyle Heights, where the morgue was located. She prayed that it was a mistake, that this body wasn’t Mary Ellen.

The coroner’s office had moved since Nicole’s visit years before. It was now housed in a grim, three-story building that loomed over several smaller wooden structures in the same complex. Nicole had read somewhere that the main building had once been Los Angeles General Hospital. With its brick façade, dingy gingerbread trim, and cupola-topped entry, it looked like a nineteenth-century madhouse.

She got out of the car and climbed the stairs to the entrance. She told a man at the front desk that she was meeting Detective Martinez, and he asked her to take a seat. The lobby was enormous, dimly lit, and filled with rows of wooden benches. They reminded her of the seating in a church, and she wondered if services had once been held here. More likely, it served as the old hospital’s waiting room. She perched on one of the benches; it was hard and cold. A notice on the wall said that the use of mobile devices was prohibited, and she dutifully turned off her phone.

The building was cool, and, to Nicole’s relief, the only discernable smell was a mixture of disinfectant and floor wax. It made her wonder where they kept the bodies—perhaps in one of the out buildings. The huge, gloomy room gave her a sense of unreality. This couldn’t have happened. Mary Ellen couldn’t possibly be lying in cold storage somewhere nearby.

Perfect Mistake by Sophia Karlson

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. One randomly chosen winner via rafflecopter will win a $50 Amazon/BN.com gift card. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

If you could apologize to someone in your past, who would it be?

Probably my mom, for being such a horrible and difficult teenager. Since she is still around, I might just as well do it now. However, I think she is sitting back, and watching me with my daughter, and quietly laughing that what you sow, you will reap.

If you could keep a mythical/ paranormal creature as a pet, what would you have?

I wouldn’t mind curling up at night with the luck-dragon from Neverending Story, Falkor. I wonder when they are going to remake that movie. I was thoroughly enchanted when it came out.

How do you keep your writing different from all the others that write in this particular genre?
I hope my exotic settings would set me apart from other writers.

What are the best and worst pieces of writing advice you ever received?

I think the best and worst piece of writing advice was actually the same bit of advice. At the point I received it, I thought that it was terrible, two years down the line it clicked. It was about goal, motivation and conflict in romance and how the characters must be in conflict, at the time the instructor only referred to physical conflicts¬ – crossing swords as such – which didn’t resonate with me. I’ve since realized that she was right and that we both didn’t express ourselves very well! I think all advice is like this, sometimes you’re just not ready for it…don’t worry, things make sense eventually.

Are the experiences in this book based on someone you know, or events in your own life?

Perfect Mistake is pure fiction – if someone actually lived this life, sorry I didn’t know about you!

Simone Levin had a dream job as a safari pilot until an unexpected pregnancy clipped her wings. Tired of juggling motherhood with her demanding flight schedule, Simone applies for an office job, unaware that her new boss is Carlo Carlevaro, the man who’d ditched her before finding out he’d knocked her up. Carlo returns to East Africa only to kill another fire—Ivory trafficking from his lodges threatens to destroy his company. Finding Simone back on the payroll comes as a pleasant surprise. As his employee, Simone is off-limits, but she is the only one he trusts to help with his undercover investigation. With time running out, Simone and Carlo strive to expose the trafficking ring, but working together rekindles their mutual desire. When Simone is implicated as a trafficker, revealing her daughter’s existence to Carlo seems inevitable. Acting on her instincts might come too late as the syndicate retaliate and hone in their threat. Will they survive to give their love a chance?

Read an excerpt:

She glanced at him but had to look away from the intensity of his eyes, which held her with such dearness that she knew he’d spoken of her. Inwardly she trembled, her murmur of need escalating to an oscillating quake.

“Simone, there’s something you’re not telling me. If you are in trouble, please–”

She extracted her fingers from his, but he cupped her elbow in his hand. She felt like crying, but the only sound that slipped out was a strangled choke as she jerked away from him. “I’m in no trouble, thank you.” Four years too late for that one.

She wanted to laugh but it hurt too much. She had to phone her mom, but it would only be to confirm her suspicions. Her mother had never passed on the message that Carlo had phoned. Her eyes misted over and she had to blink, looking away. “I just wish someone could show me where I’m to sleep tonight.”

With me. He didn’t say the words, but they hung between them, heavy and drenched.

She curled her fingers into her palms, her nails cutting into her skin. Any physical pain that would stop her from showing him where it truly ached. “It’s such a fine bloody line, Carlo. Please understand.” She swallowed the last words, biting hard on her lip to transfer the pain that had settled underneath her heart.

Soft Iron by Megan Slayer

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Megan is giving away a prize pack featuring a necklace made by the author. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

Bia is the goddess of strength and compulsion, but those traits have her trapped in iron. A simple kiss could break the curse, but who wants to kiss a statue? Especially a statue of a woman stabbing a man in the heart? She knows better than to hope her celestial mate will find her, but what if her hopes are justified?

Oliver, a very quiet, geeky guy, knows his way around fabric and fashion. He excels at his job of dressing mannequins for storefronts, but he's lonely. When he sees the statue of Bia, he's smitten. She's everything—strong, confident and sexy—everything he wishes to be. What will happen if the shy man overcomes his fears and gives in to his heart's desire? He just might be able to harness the power of the goddess.

“How did this happen? I’m free.” She kept her knees together and folded her hands on her lap, bunching the fabric to hide her nudity. “The curse? What happened?”

“I’d say you found the person who could be your celestial mate—the one you’re meant to be with forever,” Zelus said. The door opened. Kratos, Andy, and Cam entered the room. Kratos’s eyes widened. “This is a great day. Now we’re only missing Nike.”

“We’ll find her,” Andy said. He slid an arm around Kratos. “We will.”

“How do you feel?” Kratos knelt beside Bia. “How were you freed?”

“I was getting to that,” Zelus said. He rolled his eyes. Beside him, Camden shrugged.

“Oliver. The lovely human.” She bit back a smile. “He was kind to me. He kissed me.”

“He was?” Kratos shared a glance with Zelus. “Oliver. We had a feeling.” He nodded. “Since Oliver has lifted the curse, there is a chance you two are celestial mates.”

“Zelus said that,” Bia said.

“But this transformation is temporary. The hard part is next.” Zelus folded his arms. “You have to convince Oliver to fall in love with you.”

“I don’t know,” Andy said. “It shouldn’t be too hard. He seemed pretty enamored with her when we showed Bia as a statue.”

Bia clasped her hands together and smiled. When she looked at Oliver, even as a memory, she warmed all over. The rage she’d been known for—the reason for her being imprisoned in the iron— melted away when she thought about him.

“Andy, he was doing his job.” Kratos stood. He sighed and tilted his head to the side. “He’s here to dress her. Or he was. He talks to the statues. Maybe he is her celestial mate, but what if he was just being nice?”

Bia clutched the fabric tight to her body and jumped to her feet. “Then why not let him decide?” She stepped up to her brother. She’d suppress her natural urge to use her might against him, but she wasn’t above using force if the need arose. “The curse was broken— for however long, I don’t know—but it was broken. By him.”

As evil threatens to destroy the entire realm, can the battle-hardened warrior and coming-of-age noblewoman accept their differences to forge an alliance that will ultimately unite the shifter nations?

Read an Excerpt

Amari had never seen a dragon before…at least not from what she could remember. Muscle rolled beneath glistening scales. Front claws, consisting of sharp, black talons, shimmered like polished stone. Beautiful translucent wings rippled in the sunlight, tapering down to a powerful tail. Her body quivered over the breathtaking spectacle in front of her.

She skimmed her fingers over a large, amber eye, well away from the razor-sharp teeth. Aside from a slight twitch, the beast stilled at her touch. In a brazen move, she planted her palms on each side of its face. “You are way more magnificent than the lioness.”

The dragon growled, shooting vibrations up her arms. She snatched her hands off its face and backpedaled until she butted up against the rock. Her heart rabbited in her chest.

She had just touched a dragon.

She glanced sideways. If she ran, maybe she’d reach the trees before it could catch her…assuming it wouldn’t just torch her. As if reading her mind, the beast snarled.

“Please, don’t eat me.”

In a flash of light, the dragon shimmered and lost shape. To her surprise, Lord Blackthorn stepped from the brightness, and his hands slammed down on each side of her head, sandwiching her against the rock. Tension rolled off his shoulders, and fear crawled up her spine.

She almost preferred her chances with the dragon.

Taken by the Beast by Anya Summers

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Anya will be giving away a $15 Amazon/BN GC to a randomly drawn commenter. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

Gemma’s life was nearly perfect. She’s just graduated from college and is heading off to graduate school in the fall. She and her best friends are taking a trip she’s always dreamed about. Only, nothing goes as planned. After being chased on the streets of Dublin by a freaking monster, they get sucked into a portal and wind up on another world. As in, not Earth. Now she can’t find her friends, but there is this really hot, naked guy who calls himself a king and is offering her aid.

There’s only one teensy little problem: He says she’s his mate and is planning on keeping her—forever. Oh, and there’s one more thing: He’s a beast most of the time. And Gemma has to decide if she’s willing to give up everything for the one man she’s meant to be with in the universe.

Read an Excerpt

The big beast followed them from above. Its great wings stirred air currents and created a wind tunnel in the alley. Dust and rocks pelted them. She searched for an escape, a doorway or a window they could climb through to safety. But the windows were too high up for them to reach. Their footsteps slowed as they reached the gray brick wall. A dead end. Their dead end.

“What are we going to do?” Moira gasped, frantically searching for a way out of their situation.

Anna whimpered. “I’m not seeing this. We’re not here. We just had something put in our drinks, and we’re back at the hotel. This is just a nightmare.”

Gemma glanced down the alley, attempting to divine their odds of making it back out the way they’d run. And then the thing, for she couldn’t call it anything else, landed in the alley and blocked off their escape route. They were fucked.

They flattened themselves against the brick wall. Gemma searched for a way out, a way to survive.

Moira and Anna flanked her. She wished she could cry like they were doing. Anna was hysterical, telling herself to wake up. Moira was whimpering, her fearful moans guttural, sounding more like they were coming from a wounded animal than a human. But for Gemma, the night had taken on a surreal bent.

The creature approached. Its booted feet crunched over the pavement. What kind of monster wore leather boots? Her scientific brain tried to make sense of the tableau. The thing appeared to be male, judging by the lines of its chest on down to its groin. His large wings, even at rest behind him as he crept toward them, spanned the width of the alley and cut off any chance of escape. The pointed tips of his wings dragged along the brick, scraping the stone. The sound was like nails down a chalkboard.

That’s when things got really weird.

As if their entire night hadn’t become completely FUBAR. They awaited their fate. Pressed against brick. Gemma had always wondered how she would feel at the end of her days, and now she knew. Thoroughly livid. She was incensed that this thing thought to screw up her well-laid plans.

His glowing silver, otherworldly gaze stoked her fury. Anna and Moira were devolving into fear. Their choked sobs filled her with dread. She was the one who had suggested this trip to celebrate their graduation. Her best friends, her sisters of the heart—their deaths would be on her. Anna had wanted to go to the Bahamas. But Gemma had swayed them, persuaded them to go to Ireland instead.

Before she could apologize and tell them she loved them, the wall they were backed up against, awaiting their fates and most likely their final moments, dissolved. Although, maybe that was too simple a term. It melted. The bricks liquefied into nothingness. Instead of stone at their backs, a swirling black mass that reminded Gemma of clouds spiraling inside a tornado, took the brick wall’s place.

The monster was close. Too close now. And he—it—picked up its pace to capture them. She didn’t want to know what the creature had in store for them.

“Go,” Gemma cried, urging her friends to step into the swirling black mist.

About the Author: Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Anya grew up listening to Cardinals baseball and reading anything she could get her hands on. She remembers her mother saying if only she would read the right type of books instead binging her way through the romance aisles at the bookstore, she’d have been a doctor. While Anya never did get that doctorate, she graduated cum laude from the University of Missouri-St. Louis with an M.A. in History.

Anya is a bestselling and award-winning author published in multiple fiction genres. She also writes urban fantasy and paranormal romance under the name Maggie Mae Gallagher. A total geek at her core, when she is not writing, she adores attending the latest comic con or spending time with her family. She currently lives in the Midwest with her two furry felines.

Rachael, a successful lawyer in Sydney, returns to her foster family and the only place that ever felt like home: Mindalby, to help with the failing family business, the town’s bakery. With the cotton gin’s closure, all businesses are struggling, and it looks like the only option is to close up the bakery and hope to sell. But when Rachael returns, she realises that her skills give her other options: refreshing and revitalising the bakery and a chance to rekindle her love of baking.

Irishman, Mike O’Malley is a staying kind of man, looking to settle down in Mindalby with a woman who loves the wild country and wants to get involved in the community. Rachael is not that girl, but the attraction is hard to deny. Determined to show Rachael that Mindalby can be a home, he draws her out into the community and deeper into his life. But when it comes time to make a decision, can he trust Rachael to risk her heart?

Read an Excerpt:

‘Sorry,’ she said. ‘I don’t play ball.’

He hugged the ball close to his chest. He understood that. None of his sisters were into sport either. But, he loved his sports; it was a major part of his life.

‘What do you play then? I’m up for anything.’

She rubbed her hands against the afternoon chill, as her clear blue eyes met his. His heart hammered. They were the prettiest eyes he’d ever seen, and if he wasn’t careful his concentration would take a serious hit, and he’d sound like some daft prick.

‘I’m not very sporty. How did they go?’

Mike shook his head. ‘Another loss,’ he all but whispered.

She gave him a soft smile. ‘Oh, that happens. Are you having a reconnoitre with them?’

His lips quivered, but he couldn’t hold back. He let out a belly laugh.

She’s gorgeous. A one-off.

Cloaked by Taylor Hobbs

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Taylor Hobbs will be awarding a $25 Amazon or Barnes and Noble GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

Why do you write in your genre? What draws you to it?

As a kid, I was a fantasy addict. What started as an obsession with witches and dragons and magic morphed over time as I grew up. I started to get more invested in the emotional journeys of the characters I was reading about, which led me to explore the romance genre as an adult. I love the challenge in making two characters fall in love in a believable and satisfying way. When writing Cloaked, I combined my two favorite genres, and voilà!

What world-building is required?

I love the fantasy genre because of the freedom I have as a writer. While building the setting, I am not constrained by actual historical events and can take the characters any direction that makes sense for the book. Though the setting of Cloaked is fictional, I did do research to add to the authenticity of the experience. The main focus of my research was on fighting styles and medieval weaponry because it was such a huge part of Fawkes' character and Charlotte’s growth throughout the story. I also know nothing about horses, so I consulted one of my beta readers, an accomplished equestrian, for all horse-related behavior.

Name one thing you learned from your hero/heroine.

That sometimes you have to jump first and figure out how to land later.

Do you have any odd or interesting writing quirks, habits or superstitions?

I always print out my rough draft to read it all the way through for the first time. I also have to read it all in one sitting without stopping so I can get a feel for the pacing and storyline as a whole. I don’t even stop and make notes.

Are you a plotter or pantser?

A plotter in the sense that I fill out Donald Maass’ Writing the Breakout Novel Workbook before I start a novel. It is the best pre-writing tool I’ve ever come across. That said, I’m totally flexible while writing and will be a pantser if the story calls for it. Sometimes characters have a mind of their own! Who am I to fight that?

Look to your right – what’s sitting there?

My faithful dog, Scout! She’s a rescue dog who is glued to Mama. Fun fact: She’s named after Scout Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird.

Anything new coming up from you? What?

The novel I’m working on now is about an American woman who buys a village in Spain. I based it off an article I read in 2015 about the Spanish government putting abandoned properties and villages up for sale after their economy crashed. It has a healthy dose of magical realism and an unreliable narrator. Under the Tuscan Sun meets Rebecca.

Do you have a question for our readers?

Yes! How do you choose your romance novels?

Thank you so much for having me on your blog!

As the Cloaked Shadow, Fawkes has made his career breaking into prisons for any contract with a large enough purse. He takes advantage of the kingdom's impending revolution by playing both sides of the conflict. Each rescue contract he fulfills turns a tidy profit until he angers the wrong duke.

Charlotte is a criminal-in-training who yearns to crack her mentor’s guarded façade, but is unprepared to confront the depths of his dark past. As her sense of right and wrong blurs, Charlotte discovers just how far she will go for the Cloaked Shadow and the sacrifices he requires.

Now hunted throughout the land, Fawkes must face long-buried secrets in order to survive, but they could destroy him. Charlotte risks everything, including her heart, to set Fawkes on the path to redemption.

Will Charlotte have the strength to pull Fawkes into the light, or will she follow him into the shadows?

Read an Excerpt:

Fawkes’ attack pressed Charlotte backward, and soon they were outside. As Charlotte’s feet slipped in the mud, she realized she had lost her size advantage. Lightning cracked across the sky, illuminating her surroundings long enough to blind her, and she failed to anticipate the next punch. It landed hard on her right shoulder and spun her around.

Before she could steady herself to counter, her arm was wrenched behind her back. Fawkes had a grip on it with one hand, the other around her throat. She stood flush against him, feeling his harsh breath and pounding heart as it beat against her back. They stood like statues, neither one of them wanting to the first to break the spell.

The roar of thunder made her jump and brought them back to reality. “I’ve gotten better, haven’t I?” Charlotte couldn’t help asking. She’d meant it as a quip, but it came out too hopeful.

She felt Fawkes sigh, tensing his hold on her before dropping his grip. With her back still to him, she waited for his answer. Instead, his hand brushed wet hair back from her face before a finger traveled down and traced her jawline. Charlotte leaned into the touch, but then it was gone. She turned to see only darkness, and then a flash of lightning showed his tall frame heading back to the cave.

She loosened her grip on the cookie and it landed in her lap. "You're planning to get married? Yet you were kissing me in front of everyone only moments ago?"

"Only because you're who I plan to marry." He grinned.

She retrieved her cookie, left it on the table and returned the plate to the pantry.

"Hey," he said, "I wasn't through with those."

"Too bad." Hands firmly planted on her hips, she glared at him. "I have no intention of remarrying, and if I did, what makes you think it would be to you?"

Braxton got to his feet. "I'm crazy about you, Pris, and I think you care for me too."

"Well, you're wrong. Get out."

Moving around the table toward her, he said, "Okay, Pris. Don't get your dander up."

Relieved that he was going to leave quietly, she relaxed, but as soon as she did, he reached out and hauled her into his arms. Before she could voice a complaint, he kissed her. Again. She tensed and tried to break free.

Oh, but it felt so good. While cursing herself for not fighting harder, she kissed him back. A tingling began below her abdomen and she felt flushed and hungry for something she couldn't name, except that she wanted more of what Braxton offered. Her hands slipped behind his head and she pressed closer, noticing he was ready for her.

"Lord, but I could go on kissing you forever," he murmured.

"Shut up and just do it," she whispered back.

She felt him smile against her lips, but not for long. He slid his tongue along the seam of her lips until she opened to him, then slipped it inside. He tasted like oatmeal and coffee. Sweet, heady, and strong.

He pressed his aroused body closer to her, and she couldn't help wriggling. Her heart pounded, her blood on fire.

The next thing she knew, he'd picked her up and was heading for the stairs. Priscilla knew what he planned and opened her mouth to object.

A knock came on the door. "Braxton, are you in there?" Etta hollered. "Irish and Logan have been sighted riding toward the Lucky Lady. You coming with me?"

"Aw, hell," he muttered, letting Priscilla's feet touch the floor. "I gotta go. I'm sorry, Pris, darlin'."

"It doesn't matter. What we were doing was insane anyway."

He glowered at her. "You still going to claim you don't want me?"

"I don't want to marry."

"That's fine with me. We'll just live together."

"Ha! Get out of here."

"I'm going." He stalked to the door and slammed it behind him.

His Girl by Megan Slayer

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Megan will be awarding a prize pack featuring a necklace made by the author to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

Mary Allen’s never been a guy magnet. Most men are put off by her confidence in the workplace. Not Sebastian. He kindles a passion she thought was long dead. After one scene, she’s ready to jump back into the lifestyle. But can a workplace romance really work?

Sebastian Paul came back to the Underground after time away to figure out what he wanted from his life. He can’t escape the desire or the need for the scene, but he hasn’t found his perfect sub—until he spots Mary. He never expected to see her at the club. She works with him, and although she oozes confidence, he notes her desire to submit. He wants Mary as his girl. No question. But will she want him in return?

When passion ignites, love will find a way.

Enjoy an Excerpt

“If by it, you mean the fumbling, confusing start of something with Seb, then yes. Don’t sell yourself short. Give him a chance, too. He’s not like the other guys,” Andi said.

“You sound like a motivational poster.”

“Sorry.” Andi giggled. “Just trying to help.”

“You are.” She sighed. “I need to go. I’m working a six-to-two tomorrow and need to get some sleep.” She’d never be able to settle down, but still.

“Blech. That’s too early.” Andi stood. She left the room with Mary. “Good luck.”

“Thanks.” She hugged Andi. “I know you’re not a morning person, but you’re awesome. I’m going to lean on you.”

“I expect it.” Andi waved. “See you.”

Mary waved and left. She headed to her car. Her brain buzzed from her session with Sebastian and the pep talk from Andi. She liked being on display, and Sebastian knew how to make her feel alive while giving her release. Many other Doms had given her orgasms and played to her needs, but they hadn’t scratched the exact itch within her.

She drove home and sang along with the radio. Once at her apartment, she unpacked her bag, downed a glass of water, then brushed her teeth. She noticed her reflection in the mirror. She gasped. Damn. Her hair was a mess and her makeup smudged. She hadn’t checked her look before she played with Sebastian. He probably thought she didn’t care about her appearance.

Oh well. She didn’t have time to think about her ridiculous hair and makeup. She’d probably mussed herself during her shower. That had to be the case.

She finished brushing her teeth, then washed her face before falling into bed. She needed sleep or she’d be crap at work.

Mary prided herself at being at the top of her game at the air traffic control center. Lives depended on her doing her job. To do the best she could, she needed to settle down.

Within a few minutes and white noise playing in the background, she managed to fall asleep. For the first time in a long while, she didn’t dream and managed to relax.

Living Forward, Looking Backward by Nate Nasralla

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Nate Nasralla will be awarding a $25 Amazon or B/N GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

If we’re honest, we'll admit our days are filled with normal routines, like eating cereal and sitting in traffic. We often wonder, “is this it?”

But do we really have to quit our jobs and travel the world to find a fulfilling, purposeful life? Is it possible to find significance in our daily routines, right here and now?

After experiencing a rapid series of major life changes within a single year, Nate stumbled upon a reality that’s shared by us all: there's profound meaning in our ordinary, everyday moments, but we can't see it.

Through painfully-honest storytelling and candid conversation, Nate shares how years of mistakes and missteps uncovered a simple framework that reveals the greater purpose behind our everyday lives, and why the answers to life's deep questions are often backward from what we expect.

Read an Excerpt:

“Oh, shit.”

To this day, I’m not sure if I thought it, said it, or whispered it. I remember with certainty, however, feeling the heaviest, most crushing sinking in my stomach. I wanted that feeling to drag me down below the desk, through all 34 floors of drywall, and right into the basement where I could hide from the firestorm of anger that was sure to be unleashed on me. I had just let down the most trusting and encouraging vice president in the firm. I could own up to my own errors, but the report carried Chris’ reputation. I felt like I had just jammed a knife into Chris’ back.

I was red hot, trapped inside my own clothes. I wanted to run. I looked at my watch, hopelessly deliberating if I’d have enough time to make this right before Father Time declared midnight and decreed my mistake irreversible.

The silence in the room was deafening. I racked my brain for an explanation. I braced myself and came to grips with the fact that I’d watch my livelihood burn before me that night. I was marching toward the gallows. I was sure that my budding consulting career would spoil into nothingness as Chris moved Earth itself with his pent-up rage. I had no doubt that a tsunami of vitriol had been welling up inside of Chris, and my error had just triggered his ocean of wrath.

“Okay,” Chris said. “Let’s go home.”

I blinked. “What?” It was all I could muster

About the Author:
Nate is an author and entrepreneur who helps us find more meaning in the ordinary, everyday moments of our lives.

Building on his experience as the co-founder of a successful, venture-backed startup company, and as a frequent speaker and trainer on storytelling for nonprofit leaders, Nate's recent book, Living Forward, Looking Backward, helps others understand the greater purpose behind their own life stories.

Through Nate's memories, stories, and candor, we learn how the principle of paradox and the story of the Gospel shows up in each of our lives, often in ways we don't expect, and ways that feel even a little backward to us.

Alien Contact for Runaway Moms by Edward Hoornaert

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. The author will be awarding a $15 Amazon or B/N GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

When her abusive lover tries to take custody of her baby, Audra flees where even he can’t follow: the aliens’ forbidden cities underneath Kwadra Island.

But can the safety she wants for her daughter survive a search party, violent alien criminals—and the love of an emotionally damaged Kwadran?

Read an Excerpt:

The rebels came out of hiding and stalked toward the good guys.

But fifty feet behind them, rolled black cleaning bots in a solid phalanx from one side of the lane to the other. More were emerging from doors to fall in behind the first line.

Tal’s chest felt light. His fists clenched and unclenched rapidly. This was more cleaning bots than had ever been assembled. “Hurry up,” he said to his army even though they couldn’t hear him. “Faster.”

The line rolled toward the rebels’ rear, charging like phalanx of vengeful cockroaches determined to advance no matter what stood in their way.

Maybe because of the gunshots, the rebels didn’t hear the miniature army. Two guys and a woman in the rear yelped when bots hit their feet. Dropping their weapons, the men fell backward; there were so many bots that they carried them and their guns along for a bumpy, jarring ride. The woman was faster. She dashed into a nearby house—but came right back out again, pushed by a battalion of cleaning machines.

Scores of bots flooded into the lane, driving rebels out of buildings and into the churning flood of small metal soldiers. Some tried to crawl over the flood, but they found nothing stable enough to walk on. They fell and bots crawled over them. A rebel emptied his pistol at the swarm, but for every one he shot, another took its place.

One young rebel, smarter than the rest, rode atop the bots without struggling. At an intersection he rolled once, twice, three times until he reached the edge of the swarm. Then he popped to his feet. His escape didn’t matter, though: he left his gun and ran.
