Relatively Normal Secrets by C.W. Allen

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. C. W. Allen will be awarding a $25 Amazon or B/N GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

Like most siblings, Tuesday and Zed don't always get along. Unlike most siblings, their arguments are over things like whether their parents are hiding a life of crime, or are simply the weirdest adults on the planet. When they decide to go on the hunt for some solid evidence, things get weirder than ever: two thugs with shape-shifting swords show up, their dog shows off some tricks she definitely didn't learn in obedience school, and even their treehouse turns out to be more than meets the eye.

Their escape leaves Zed and Tuesday stranded in a land where robots and holograms live alongside quaint medieval villagers and soldiers on horseback. Soldiers who insist their father is a disgraced fugitive, and their dog a legendary monster.

If they ever want to see their parents again, they'll have to learn to work together. After all, they've got a mysterious code to break, secrets to unlock, bandits and soldiers to outwit, and a rowdy dog whose antics are getting more outrageous by the minute. Even if they manage to evade the eerie secret police and uncover enough clues to figure out what's really going on, they're not sure they're going to like the truth.

Zed and Tuesday will have to decide who to trust and what really matters, or they'll never get back to normal (whatever that is.) Because when it comes to normal, everything is relative.

At lunch, her father was the headlining topic of conversation. Perhaps, everyone joked, he was some kind of secret agent—if anyone found out what he really did all day, he'd have to erase their memories or have them deported to Jupiter. Tuesday made a hasty decision: better to ride the wave of laughter, than drown in it. This was ridiculous, of course!

Of course it was.

Tuesday heaved her backpack onto the lunch table and made a production of searching for a missing paper until the cafeteria’s collective attention bounded on to a new distraction. She retrieved last week’s History assignment and tried to look intensely interested in reviewing it, staring through the page with unfocused eyes while zoning out to the satisfying snapping sound her carrot sticks made, the pitch falling rhythmically as her teeth chopped each one shorter and shorter.

The newly-hatched suspicions about her parents’ routines burrowed in with the rest of the doubts nesting in her brain. It wasn’t just the way they sidestepped any mention of their lives before they had children. It wasn’t just their odd taste in names. It was just—oh, everything.

Her last name should have been different, for one thing; Tuesday was sure of it. Her father wouldn’t say what it might have been, but anything else would have been fine with her, really. Anything that wouldn’t make her a walking punchline. If her parents hadn’t been so weird, her mother would have taken her father’s last name when they got married, like normal people. Then Tuesday could have inherited his name, instead of just his face.

About the Author:
C.W. Allen is a Nebraskan by birth, a Texan by experience, a Hoosier by marriage, and a Utahn by geography. She knew she wanted to be a writer the moment she read The Westing Game at age twelve, but took a few detours along the way as a veterinary nurse, an appliance repair secretary, and a homeschool parent.

She recently settled in the high desert of rural Utah with her husband, their three children, and a noisy flock of orphaned ideas. Someday she will create literary homes for all of them. (The ideas, not her family.)

Relatively Normal Secrets (Cinnabar Moth Publishing, Fall 2021) is her debut novel. She writes fantasy novels for tweens, picture books for children, and short stories and poems for former children. Her work will appear in numerous anthologies in 2021. She is also a frequent guest presenter at writing conferences and club meetings, which helps her procrastinate knuckling down to any actual writing.

10 Things Most People Don't Know About Me

This might be more than you want to know, but here goes:

1. I’m 68 years old. I self-published my first novel when I was 60, but I didn’t get professionally published until I was 66.

2. I’ve been married to my husband, Doug, for almost 26 years, but I’ve been divorced twice and Doug has been divorced three times. When we went to the county clerk in Las Vegas to get our marriage license, the clerk just shook her head at us. We have outlasted the sum total of all our previous marriages.

3. I can recite “The Night Before Christmas” word for word, though there are a few verses in the middle that I sometimes get out of order. I have a head full of commercial jingles and television show opening songs from the 1960s memorized. I also know a ton of old kid songs and nursery rhymes. They won’t go away, lol.

4. I’m partly disabled from several diseases and chronic back pain. Even before the pandemic, I didn’t leave home much. And before I got vaccinated, I only left home once in fourteen months. Now I go out a little bit.

5. I have an eclectic job history. I’ve been a babysitter, a motel maid, a janitor in an industrial plant, a food server, a waitress, a cashier, a nurse’s aide, a proofreader for a large daily newspaper, and I staffed the gate for a country club swimming pool. I started a tofu salad manufacturing company, I managed the Austin Peace and Justice Coalition, and I managed nonprofit housing for a college student co-op for fifteen years. Since then, I’ve worked for a public insurance adjuster, a real estate developer, and now I do bookkeeping and income taxes from home.

6. As part of the Austin Peace and Justice Coalition, I produced fundraising concerts featuring Joan Baez and Pete Seeger. A few years later, a friend and I started Mockingbird Productions to promote concerts and raise money for causes. We did shows with Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Tracy Chapman, Indigo Girls, Todd Rundgren, Chick Corea, and Lionel Hampton. I got to meet all of them except Ms. Chapman, who was extremely shy. We couldn’t make enough money to stay in business, but it was fun.

7. Lots of people know this, but for anyone who doesn’t, in the 1970s I lived off the grid for many years as part of a hippie spiritual community called The Farm in rural Tennessee, and my sons were delivered there by midwives. We were soy-based vegans—pioneers of veganism, really. But then I discovered that I’m allergic to soybeans.

8. As a kid growing up in Oklahoma and up through my twenties, I was extremely shy. Don’t know what happened to that, but now I’m what my grandmother would have called a chatterbox.

9. In junior and senior high, I was a straight-A student, until the final semester when I got one B and one C. Still, I graduated 6th in a class of more than 800. I had a full-ride scholarship to college, but it wasn’t to the school I wanted, so I left after a week and took off with friends to hitchhike to San Francisco, back when people did that.

10. When I was a junior in high school, I wrote a short story called “The Blue River” which won runner-up in a national short-story contest. And the story was about… guess what? An apocalyptic world.

A standalone sequel to IF DARKNESS TAKES US

A solar electromagnetic pulse fried the U.S. grid fourteen months ago. Everything’s gone: power, cars, running water, communications, all governing control and help—gone. Now northern lights have started in Texas—3,000 miles farther south than where they belong. The universe won’t stop screwing with eighteen-year-old Keno Simms.

All that’s left for Keno, his family and neighbors is farming their Austin subdivision, trying to eke out a living on poor soil in the scorching heat. Keno’s still reeling from the the death of his pregnant sister. His beloved Nana is ill, Grandpa’s always brandishing weapons, and water is far too scarce. Desperate thieves are hemming them in, yet he can’t convince his uncle and other adults to take action against the threat.

Keno’s one solace is his love for Alma, who has her own secret sorrows. When he gets her pregnant, he vows to keep her alive no matter what. Yet armed marauders and nature itself collude against him at every turn, forcing him to make choices that rip at his conscience. If he can’t protect Alma and their unborn child, it will be the end of Keno’s world.

IF THE LIGHT ESCAPES is post-apocalyptic science fiction set in a near-future reality, a coming-of-age story told in the voice of a heroic teen who’s forced into manhood too soon.

Read an Excerpt

“These northern lights bug the crap out of me,” I tell Alma. “What are they doing here? They’re supposed to be tied to magnetic poles. I saw this show a couple years ago that said the north pole was drifting north, not south. So how did they end up here? The poles can’t drift around randomly. That’s impossible.”

“I don’t know, baby. They worry me, too, but we need to be quiet.”

“They make me feel like something bad is gonna happen. What do you call that? Fore-something.”

“Foreboding?”

“That’s it. I’ll be quiet, now, and just stew in my foreboding.”

“Silly.” Alma reaches up and ruffles my hair.

When we patrol and we can’t cuddle on account of guns, Alma and I could talk all night. It’s not a good idea for us to talk much when we’re patrolling, though. We get all involved and forget to listen for anyone who might be sneaking around, hunting for food or water, or worse: getting ready to kill us for it.

We walk along with our rifles in the night. It’s cool out here, but not cold…

Alma stops and raises her gun.

“Hear that?” she whispers.

“No, what?” I’ve got my gun up, too, and I’m pivoting around, searching. I want to hide Alma, but she would never let me.

“Over there.” She points at the corner by the park. And I hear a jangly noise, like car keys. No one drives cars now, though…

She opened her sketch pad and created a list.

While I’m at university, I want to:

*be kissed properly

*buy a cheeseburger

*see a rock band play a concert

*have sex & lose my virginity

*have sex with a handsome man

She tapped her pencil against her lips as she debated the next item for her list.

*to meet the tall, dark and handsome artist downstairs

*to model for someone (nude?)

*to attend a real party

*to fall in love

She snorted. Love wouldn’t happen. Not for her. Before things got that far, she’d be found out. The law of averages wasn’t in her favor. If her stepmother didn’t tell someone she’d arrived at the college, Corinne would let the secret slip.

Still, she could dream.

Besides, the list was only one of dreams. It wasn’t like she’d created a checklist to live by. She’d come to the college to get an education, not fall in love. Even if she wanted to be with someone and experience those aspects of life, she had to finish her degree first. She’d paid the money to attend and refused to waste the chance—even for love.

Strategy Quest by Paul Sacco

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Paul Sacco will be awarding a $10 Amazon or B/N GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour. In addition, the publisher is offering this and several other books FREE for a limited time: https://books.bookfunnel.com/businesspromo/q6gn21s5w5. In Strategy Quest: The Executive Guide for Finding Business Opportunities, you will learn how to achieve the strategic mindset necessary to create and decide on the business opportunities that will put you ahead of your competition.

Using the psychology of personality type, you will understand how to make the shift to this growth mindset. In Strategy Quest, you will learn that the strategic mindset is composed of Strategic Intuition and Strategic Thinking. Strategic Intuition creates strategic visions and concepts, while strategic thinking decides if these are genuinely strategic and the right choice for your business.

Strategy Quest uses business examples to show what the strategic mindset is and isn’t. The book also equips you with the tools that you will need for your Strategy Quest and shows you how to overcome the obstacle that you might encounter.

Read an Exclusive Excerpt

The strategic mindset follows a similar process as creative problem-solving. The difference is that with creative problem-solving, we are usually reacting to a nebulous yet tangible problem, while the strategic mindset undertakes a quest to find opportunities to fulfill an abstract goal that might not be associated with a tangible issue.

The first book on creative problem-solving, The Art of Thought (7), was written by Graham Wallas, cofounder of the London School of Economics. In his book, Wallas described a four-step method. In the first step, preparation, the problem is “investigated in all directions.” Wallas referred to the second stage as Incubation. During this step, Wallas advised avoiding conscious thought of the problem to permit the “combinatory play” of the mind to go to work on the problem. The third step is Illumination, in which a “happy idea” comes into consciousness. The happy idea is synonymous with a vision. The fourth stage involved verification of the idea.

The Strategy Quest Method expands Wallas’ four-step method into the six sub-quests illustrated in Figure 10 - The Strategy Quest Method. To complete this adaption, I undertook my Strategy Quest by researching military and business strategy, psychology, neuroscience, and creativity. My own experience as an INTJ contributed a great deal to envisioning this method, conceptualizing it, and ensuring that it made sense.

The Strategy Quest Method begins by aligning your intrinsic motivation with strategic feelings (FiS). You will then proceed on a quest to find a strategic goal. Next, using Strategic Intuition (NiS), you will create a vision for achieving your goal. After you transform your vision into a tangible concept, you will use Strategic Thinking (TeS) to determine if your concept is a real strategic opportunity and to decide if it an appropriate opportunity for your business.

Unless primarily driven by intrinsic motivation, you won’t be able to complete your Strategy Quest. Intrinsic motivation is what drives us to do the things that we enjoy. Doing things that we enjoy results in the brain’s release of the feel-good neurochemical, dopamine. In contrast, extrinsic motivations compel us to do things for others. Extrinsic motivation induces us with either rewards (i.e., carrot) or punishment (i.e., the stick). Extrinsic rewards include compensation, promotion, recognition, status, and power. Extrinsic punishment can come by way of withholding rewards, termination, negative feedback, or other means.

In his book, Drive (8), author Daniel Pink asserts that extrinsic rewards alone do not motivate us to accomplish long-term goals. Since finding and implementing a strategic opportunity takes place in the long term, intrinsic motivation is necessary. Pink also makes the point that we need intrinsic motivation to accomplish complex tasks. As an executive, your Strategy Quest is the most complex challenge that you are likely to encounter in your professional career.

The embarrassment of being the only “un-kissed” girl in senior high is something Sandy Cardington refuses to accept. The first kiss project is her foolproof plan to finally get rid of the status at her birthday party while her parents are out of town.

With several kissable boys on her guest list, this should be a walk in the park. But she didn’t reckon on her older brother returning from college days before her 17th birthday, putting a spoke in her plans. To make matters even more complicated, he has a friend in tow, and the cute hockey player stirs unexpected butterflies in her stomach every time their paths cross.

While Sandy moves heaven and earth to make her party and project come true, she doesn't know that Thane Griffyn is making his own plans to teach her the real meaning of a first kiss.

“You know what?” I follow him around the kitchen island with my breakfast and take a seat beside him. “Since you’re going to live here for the next few days, I guess it’s okay that you feel at home. So when you’re hungry, just come down and grab whatever you want.”

His black eyebrows knit in my direction. “Without asking?”

I bite the corner of one toast. “Mm-hmm.”

“Really? You mean everything?”

“Yes, I mean everything,” I assure him, laughing now while I chew. “Except my Oreos. If you want to live, don’t touch them.” This is a warning he should take very seriously. I’m addicted to the cookies.

As his gaze drops to my body and rises within a millisecond, I roll my eyes because I realize I ran right into that one. To his credit, he holds back his gamy smirk ninety percent. “Got it. Can eat everything. No Oreos.” Leaving his mug on the counter, he slides from the stool and gets the sugar bowl from where I pointed him. After he comes back, standing beside me now instead of taking a seat again, and adds a careful spoonful of sugar to his brew, he reaches over and snags the untouched second slice of toast from my plate.

My eyes widen in sharp protest. “Hey!”

“What? You said everything.” With a shower of mischief in his star-blue eyes, he arches his brows once as he takes a bite from the toast. Then he leans in really close, keeping our gazes locked with his intense stare, and adds in a drawl that makes shivers zoom down my body, “Be thankful that I didn’t eat the Milky Way.”

About the Author:
I’ve been a storyteller all my life, building bridges into different worlds. Already in kindergarten, I’ve seen the most fantastical things and wanted to share them with everyone. My teacher called me a liar back then. Today, I call it the first real flash of my spiritual gift and the cornerstone of my writing career.

When I got older, I’ve had many visions of a perfect career, while writing has always been more of a hobby and kind of a therapy for me when the longing for more magic in this world once again caught up with me in a crushing way. When my first book was finished, I couldn’t even imagine sharing one of my stories with others, ever. In fact, I only got used to the idea while I wrote my second book and learned in a very miraculous way where the many stories in this world really come from.

It’s funny how, at that point, everyone told me I can’t possibly make a living with writing. They even warned me not to quit my job. But after my debut novella PLAY WITH ME came out and sales skyrocketed within the first week, I knew I could do anything I wanted if only I never stopped dreaming.

That’s also part of what I teach my students in writing and spiritual workshops today. Always dream big! If your dreams don’t scare you, they aren’t big enough.

Some personal stuff:

“I’m writing stories because I can’t breathe without.”

Disney is my attitude to life, and if I could I’d save the world from itself. My Patronus is a wolf, my wand the broken twig of an apple tree, 13 ¾ inches with a unicorn hair core. I can’t deny that on some days, I prefer my book characters over real people, but there’s not a single day going by where I wouldn’t try to find magic in reality. And when I’m alone, I love to listen to the many stories of the wind in a mystic mid-summer night.

So you see, I’m lucky enough to live in an enchanting world of my own. It’s peaceful there and full of magical things, fairies and wonders. You’re welcome to follow me there – if you’re ready to open up your mind and leave everything you learned about reality behind. But beware, if you dare to step through this door, you may never want to leave again…

It's Not About Me, It's About Them by booker ml

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Five Things You Might Not Know About booker ml

Interesting:

1. I learned how to cook a scrambled egg in March of 2020 when we first shut in during Covid. What’s interesting about is, I could never cook any type of egg except boiled. I was so excited that I took a picture of the egg in the pan and thus started my survival mode. I then went to the grocery story and spent $126 on groceries for the first time that I have been on my own for over 30 years. I was in survival mode and realized that my normal way of eating was temporary on hold. Usually, my friends cooked extra portions for me, I did take out; and was a microwave queen. Now I have added a few other dishes that I can cook for myself, I wouldn’t share them with anyone else because they probably lack taste but for me, they are fine.

Edifying:

2. When the Voting Acts Right was signed August 6, 1965. My mom, aunt, siblings, and cousins and I were visiting the White House. I have a picture of me sitting on the lap of President Lyndon Banes Johnson sucking my thumb literally moments after he signed the Voting Rights Acts. When Congressman John Lewis passed last year, I then realized how important that day was and I will always be a part of that history.

Fun:

3. February, 2014 I hosted an Indoor Carnival Themed 50th birthday party with 250 guests from a list of 275 notwithstanding snow. I had 5 food stations (breakfast, barbeque, dessert table, junk food, cook out table). I created most of my games like the toilet paper toss, very successful, spinning the wheel. I had live entertainment with two choirs from Philadelphia, a local group from my home town, and soloists. I emceed the entire party in a ridiculous outfit looking like a clown and was also my own DJ. I had the best birthday cake freshly made strawberry lemon that cost me $820.00. The cake was my favorite meal, a rack of ribs, a plate of French fries, a slice of sweet potato pie, a buttered roll and a Sunkist orange soda. Everything was edible include the tray. The baker also made packs of catsup and butter. I actually still have pieces of this cake in the freezer and huge picture on my wall. People are still asking me when am I going to have another carnival party. I have been the recipient of 6 surprised birthday parties. Most people don’t have any.

4. I love French Fries so much that when I left my job as an Office Manager in 2004, my supervisor, staff, and peers took me to the Olive Garden for lunch and when I returned from the restroom, there was a plate of French Fries waiting for me. Dr. Byington had requested that they cook French Fries because everyone who knows me knows that I can eat French Fries anytime. In 2004 the Olive Garden was not selling French Fries they made them especially for me.

Embarrassing

5. I don’t believe in wasting anything, I believe in recycling almost anything. It is a known fact I can’t cook. One day about 5 years ago, I was looking through my freezer and saw a bag of frozen beef tips. I decided I would have the meat for dinner because I had a box of bag rice in the cabinet. I was excited about my meal. I had an event at my house and my sister she always does bags of left overs and places them in the freezer for me to heat up later.

When I got home, I read the directions and boiled the rice. While the rice was boiling, I decided to cut the meat so I could mix it in my rice. As I begin to cut the meat, I noticed how easy it to cut the meat with my knife. I was so excited and greedy that decided to take a bite of beef cubes before heating and mixing with my rice. To my surprise I was not cutting up beef, I was cutting up brownies; they were both brown in color. I thought to myself, how nasty that would have been had I mixed with rice. I thought to myself, “girl you are sad.” I was so disappointed; I don’t know what I ate that night. I called my sister and she said “girl don’t you know the difference?” My response was, I thought it was beef.

Have you ever said to someone, "I'm not a mind reader?" Or, have you ever been told, "You know I can't read your mind?" It's Not About Me - It's About Them leaves nothing for the imagination when something needs to be SAID.

It's not about DYING, it's about LIVING and preserving your memory.

“Where would you like to have the funeral?” asked Mr. Stephens. “There is an option to have it at the convention center.”

“That would be great,” said Barry. “Then we can have all his teachers and friends from school attend.”

“Okay, this is a book for flower arrangements and this one is for caskets and grave markers. Browse through to see which ones you would like,” Mr. Stephens said as he spread the books on the table.

Margie and Barry went through the books and picked the things that would best fit for Jason.

They came across the perfect casket. The casket had a storm blue exterior with a spruce blue interior and a football symbol inside, quoting a Bible verse.

After they came up with a decision, Margie wanted to go back upstairs.

“Barry, can you help me back upstairs?”

“You sure you don’t want to hang out with your mom and Burnie?” Barry posed as they walked up the stairs.

“No, I’m not up to it,” Margie said as they continued to the bedroom. “Let Mom and Burnie figure out the program for the homegoing service.”

Barry laid Margie down on the bed and sat beside her.

“Are you sure you want your mom and Burnie to do the program?” asked Barry.

“Yes, just make sure they leave room for Coach Mackey, Principal Jenkins, and his teammates to say a few words.”

There can be light in the dark...

Shane Heyward left everything behind to find his mate. He struggled for months, following his wolf to her location, guided to a place where supernatural beings exist and thrive. Despite being capable of leading his own pack, he chose to join one. When he finds his mate by accident, he's shaken by the truth. Not only is she blind, the wolf within her is completely feral. If he can't help her take control of the beast, she'll have to be destroyed.

Luna Lowe was forced to leave her previous pack after she shifted, attacked, and almost killed two members—one of which was her sister. She's ashamed of her behavior, wondering if death is preferable to living alone, when the male she believed abandoned her due to her lack of sight arrives.

As Shane and Luna come together, he learns her history. His female was wronged, and the insult has to be dealt with swiftly and harshly. As he takes charge and seeks retribution, reverting to his Alpha nature, everything will change—for both of them.

"Luna," he said softly, his voice deep and low.

A warm flutter erupted in her belly. "Yes?"

"I'd like to hold your hand."

The idea appealed to her, sending tingles all through her body. Unfortunately, the act of touching him again also terrified her. It was difficult enough to keep her wolf contained in the cabin of the SUV, where his scent was so strong she couldn't escape it, without adding skin contact to the mix. When he'd rested his hand on her knee earlier, clothing had remained between them. As he moved to her hand, her body came to life in entirely new ways. That had teased the beast, which was dangerous in itself. Then he'd breezed his lips over her skin, and she thought she was going to lose it. She was already straddling an invisible fence, combating her attraction to him. It didn't help that when he returned to her and slid her hand under his arm, placing her palm on what felt like a leather jacket as he guided her from her grandparent's home, she'd gotten an idea of his size and strength.

He was tall, broad, and muscular.

She'd been turned-on immediately.

She thought the beast was going to rip clear out of her skin.

"Tell me what you're thinking." He didn't reach for her. Obviously, he was able to smell her discomfort. Hell, the aroma was so strong it plugged her nose. "There are no right or wrong things to say. Not with me."

"If you touch me," she answered, ashamed to admit it, "the wolf will rise."

"I know." He didn't sound disturbed.

"She could hurt you," she whispered, mortified by the fact.

To her shock, he laughed. "She can try, lovely. But it won't happen."

Not wanting to offend him, she considered her words. "You're sure?"

"There's only one way to find out."

Nature is unlimited broadcasting station: Flowers she wore on her feet. by Bertha and Edward Mkwelele

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Bertha and Edward Mkwelele will be awarding a $15 Amazon or B/N GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

'Flowers she wore on her feet'.

This is the story of an extraordinary girl and young woman with a brilliant mind, a heart of gold, and who is gone too soon. Neema was a priceless gift to us. Neema was an extraordinary young woman, with joy and wisdom, and remarkably profound and greater understanding about herself and others. She taught us everything worth knowing about life and love, everything about what it means to be a best friend. Neema, outlook for future is something about this book. Neema would have wanted the world to hear the voice of children and young people, girls and young people in particularly young women around the world, their walking sound when they walk wearing their beautiful flowers on their feet. Meaning that those girls and young women around the world have worked hard the same way Neema did, searching for their favorite flowers and they were able to see them and finally finding their ways to broadcast them, and therefore, finding their unique values. This is what Neema would have wanted the world to hear from children and young people saying that we go out and we're asking for help and support, they will wear flower on their feet because they worked hard to get see them and therefore they can now see themselves, and therefore , the walk by itself is a voice and a cry for help and they are saying help us because we would like to contribute to the world and we're read and we know what we love and what we want to do and what we're loving doing and we just want opportunities to let us equip with knowledge and skills then we will all be ready and set to contribute to the world we live in our own unique way happily.

Read an Exclusive Excerpt

Neema was very happy the day we brought little Michael home from hospital. She demonstrated her sense of humour at a very young age and we are happy to share this experience with the whole world. As parents we’re thrilled and as we write this book, we would like to tell the world that we are proud of her, we have been proud of her since, and we will continue to be proud of her forever. This is what our young girl Neema did on that day: she went to sit next to her mother, and asked questions about the baby boy her mom had brought home with her. She admired the baby boy, Michael, and she was not shy in showing love and affection right away for the human being lying down in front of her.

It’s so beautiful to remember that the young Neema was happy to have her new sibling as part of her life, and she decided to start her new life on that day by inviting the newborn Michael into her life in her own unique way. She took her parents by surprise. Neema went to her bedroom and brought some clothes with her, and then she said, “These clothes don’t fit me anymore,” and looked at her father first and then looked at her mom and said, “I would like my brother to have them.” She also asked a question of her mother, “Mom, can you dress him please?” We both had a good laugh, and Neema insisted that we make Michael try those clothes. We thanked our little girl Neema for being kind to her little brother, new baby-boy Michael.

As we looked at our little girl Neema enjoying her new life experience, we remembered what Neema had told us about one year before Michael was born. It was one of those beautiful days, when our little girl Neema would go out to play with our neighbours’ children. So, on that day, Neema came to us crying and when she was asked what was happening and what was wrong, Neema did not answer right away.

And then she just answered us by saying, “Them, Mom,” and she continue to cry and say, “I like to play with them, Mom, but—” and she did not finish what she wanted to say. Then when I asked her to stop crying, to calm down and tell what happened, and I pushed a little bit more about our neighbours’ two boys who Neema enjoyed playing with (we asked, “What about them?”) Neema wiped her tears and answered, “They laugh at me because I have no one at home to play with.” We comforted her and told her that yes, we agreed that at that particular time she had no one to play with at home because she was the only child. We carefully chose what to say and explained to her that one day things would change. We would get a second child and therefore one day she will get someone to play with at home, and we will get a baby girl so she will have a sister to play with at home, or we will get a baby boy so she will get a little brother to play with.

Smile More Stress Less by Geoffrey Saign

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Geoffrey Saign will be awarding a $30 Amazon or Barnes and Noble GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

Five Things You Might Not Know About Geoffrey Saign

It’s hard to guess much of anything about most people. But five things that would be very hard to know about me could be the following. I’ve snorkeled with whale sharks in the Caribbean. I love water, and swim often, but snorkeling with whale sharks was very exciting. On that same trip I snorkeled with a giant manta ray. It flapped its wing as a warning, hitting the water. If it had hit my head, I would have been unconscious, or worse.

Okay, a second thing would be that I’ve gone 30 days, 3 times, with just drinking organic carrot juice—a gallon a day. I did it for allergies, and yes, I turned a little orange!

Thirdly, I’ve had some ESP experiences that were quite interesting. One, I sat in a circle of strangers while traveling in Australia. We were supposed to stare at the person across from us and ask 3 questions = Who is standing behind them? What is the person wearing? What are they saying? I told the woman I was looking at that a young man stood behind her, wearing a black suit, white collar, his hand on her shoulder, saying, “It’s okay.’ She began crying, said her nephew always wore all black with a white collar, and had been a missionary, and on his last mission died—she never had a chance to say goodbye.

4th. I’ve sailed @ 4,000 miles in the South Pacific, and while painting a boat, almost hit the captain on the head when a paint can that fell from the top of the main mast. He had a temper and I didn’t come down for a while. LOL

5th, me and a friend managed to start a hotel in Australia on fire while painting the roof. We were traveling and young and did odd jobs. We were burning off the old paint on stucco walls. We each blamed each other. Also, neither of us wanted to go down to get water to put the fire out because the boss would see us. We argued and I finally won out. And of course the boss saw my friend carrying the 5 gallon bucket of water and fired us!

You Can End Daily Stress With Playfulness and Humor

One way to change rote, stressful thought patterns is to use playful exaggeration. It is a simple, repetitive method that will produce immediate and significant results, and we will use it often in this book in different ways and situations.

Let’s try it with dirty dishes. You see dirty dishes in the sink. Thoughts enter your mind about how irresponsible the person was in leaving them there. You feel annoyed and irritated. You notice this Self-Created Stress reaction inside yourself, and you interrupt it. You say out loud or think:

Oh no! My hands will never recover from this!
This is going to ruin my whole life!
It’s the end of the world as I know it!

Smile as you do this. Smiling brings about a strong positive emotion, and strong emotion helps change the brain by wiring a new neural pattern that’s even stronger.

Every time we change our thought pattern or interrupt old thought responses, we are changing our brain—teaching it—and allowing a new neural pattern to develop. We are telling the brain, This old pattern of thought is no longer useful or acceptable. The brain always listens. EVERY SINGLE EFFORT IS WORTHWHILE. This cannot be overstated.

It’s 1941 and the German war machine has defeated all of Europe except England. In an effort to force a surrender, the German Luftwaffe is bombing villages and cities the length of the country. As the battle rages, Britain is in desperate need to put more pilots in the air.

To free up more men a new unit is formed: The Ack Ack Girls. Teams of courageous young women will now fight in anti-aircraft stations. Excited to be part of the effort, Ava Armstrong has volunteered for one of the special teams. Her unit just happens to be located near an RAF airfield teaming with pilots. Sparks fly, and not just from artillery, when Ava crosses paths with the highly decorated and handsome Royal Air force pilot, Chris Fairfield.

“I have a couple of favorites. I like Night and Day and Blue Moon," Ava sang a couple of lines from each and added a shoulder and body sway. “They’re good to dance to.”

“Nice moves.”

“Do you dance?”

“When necessary.”

She wondered what that meant, exactly. She heard her mother in her head advising her not to pry. But what if he had a fiancé and she liked to dance and that was the necessity? Sorry Mum, I have to ask. “Pleasant as this evening has been, flirtations and all, just curious but do you have someone special waiting for you somewhere?”

“No. If I had, I wouldn’t have invited you out.”

“I had to ask.”

“Understandable. What about you?”

“No one special is waiting for me either.”

“Good. Back to the songs. Sing Night and Day again.”

She sang the first line and as she did, Chris put his arms around her and danced with her. The warm touch of his hands felt through her uniform. “You’ve nice moves, yourself.” He pulled her closer. “Oh.”

“My mother insisted my sister and I take ballroom dancing when we were in our teens. She said it was uncivilized not to know how to dance.” Without missing a beat, he added, “We’d make a cracking good recruitment poster. Join the RAF or ATS—”

“And share the starry sky?”

“And share the starry sky, I like it.” He gave her one more whirl and stopped. “I’m leaving tomorrow morning.”

Falling off a cliff, she had no better words to describe the sudden sense of loss. They hardly knew each other. He’d warned her he’d be going within days, but none of that made the loss less acute.

“Well, who knows what the future holds. Maybe I’ll get leave down the road and if I go home, we can meet for drinks or something.” She didn’t know what else to say.

“I don’t want to lose this.” He gestured wide a broad stroke of his arm to the sky. “More starry nights, I hoped you’d agree to write me.”

That jolted the life back into her. “Of course. I don’t want to lose this either.”

He kissed her, thoroughly, deeply, and like no other had.

"It looks like everything is on schedule. Come tomorrow, just after eleven in the morning, you will be the largest owner of imaging and communications satellites orbiting the planet. The stock is going to shoot through the roof at opening bell."

"Good work," he said as he tossed the folder onto his desk without looking at it, "Go home, get some rest. We're going to party hearty tomorrow but before that I need you at your best to deal with the press. You know how I hate that."

"Yes, I know." She smiled for him. "Congratulations, you did it."

"We did it," he corrected, "now go on, scoot, get out of here." He said with a smile and wave of his hand toward the heavy mahogany door to his office. "Don't think I've forgotten about that bonus I promised you. It'll be in your next check. Take a vacation, Jessie. You work too much."

"Pot. Kettle. Black," she snickered as she walked through the door for the night.

Watching her leave was something he always enjoyed. The way the soft black cotton of her skirt clung to her firm ass was nothing short of divine. Once she was gone he opened his desk drawer to pull out a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue and pour himself a good long drink.

Jessie had no idea how long of a road it had been getting to tomorrow. It was thousands of years in the making but here it was dancing in the palm of his hand…finally. Drinking down the last of the two fingers in the glass and pouring himself another, Cain Enoch—owner, operator, and CEO of Enoch Industries—got up from his fancy desk in his fancy high-powered office with its breathtaking view of the Manhattan skyline, and went the Monet hanging on his wall. Looking back to the door, he used his mind to lock it before pushing the hidden button behind the lamp that sprung the painting loose on its hidden hinges. Behind it was his office safe which he now opened and took from it the only object hiding there. Taking another swallow of the warm liquid he smiled at the gleaming short sword in his hand and whispered, "Soon, not long now. Soon we'll know." Satisfied that his most prized possession was still secure he put it back in the safe and locked it tight. Turning back around he gingerly picked up the handset of his desk phone, punched #2, and when Jason, his driver answered, informed him, "I'm ready. I'll be there in five." Then he hung up.

On his way to his private elevator, he buttoned the Armani jacket clinging to his athletic frame like white on rice and straightened his silk tie. Walking the short distance from the elevator to where his town car was parked and Jason waiting by the open door, the footfalls from the soles of his shinning leather shoes echoed loudly, almost booming as though they foretold of his deeds on the horizon, throughout the nearly empty parking garage.

"Good evening, Mr. Enoch," Jason greeted him with a warm smile as he held the door and his boss slid onto the buttery soft backseat.

"Jason," Cain replied without looking at the man who'd been driving him to and from his home in the Hamptons, around Manhattan, and wherever else he wanted to go for the last six years. "The scenic route tonight, if you please."

"Yes, sir," the chauffer replied never losing his smile. The scenic route meant that Mr. Enoch had a lot on his mind, he wanted to drink his Johnny Walker Blue in the backseat and let his brain decompress, let it meander around with the car taking the long slow route to its destination. It also meant he wouldn't talk much, if at all, he wouldn't demand anything, no he would just sit back there silent as a lamb drinking and thinking watching the night go by with absent eyes.

Tonight, Jason could find no fault in that, after all tomorrow was a very big day for his boss and the whole world knew it. No pressure there.

I began my writing career in the 4th grade when the class was given its first-ever Creative Writing assignment. I put pencil to paper and was instantly transported to a place I knew that I would never want to leave. I have been publishing my works since 7th grade.

Early influences were Stephen King, Mary Higgins Clark, Harold Robins, Jacqueline Susan and VC Andrews. As such, my works tend to be a grand mash-up of drama, horror, suspense, action, intrigue, and, of course, intimate relations.

My stories are filled with secrets, lust, betrayal, and sometimes rage, they may keep you awake into the wee hours of the morning cheering, weeping, and captured by suspense as our heroes and heroines have their love tested by demons who reside within and without.

In my spare time I enjoy gardening and photography as well as cooking and baking. I also enjoy helping other authors bring their works to the world stage.
