Questions on Plot

One of my secret wishes is to be able to sneak into a room full of readers discussing what they like or don’t like so much about books in the genre I write. Of course I’d be there wearing my invisible cloak so that the readers won’t know I’m eavesdropping. Best of all would be if they were discussing my books. I see myself busy taking notes, shaking my head at some suggestion or criticism, silently whispering thanks or purple curses, tapping my own shoulder with a Well done!, or weeping for all the things I got so disastrously wrong for the readers. What I’d pay the most attention to would be what the readers say about my plots.

So here are some of the questions I’d ask them:

1. At what point did you think “Okay, this is where the story begins”?
2. Was there a point at which you felt the story/chapter lagged or you became less than excited about finding out what was going to happen next? Where, exactly?
3. Did you pick up on any plot holes?
4. Were there any scenes or exchanges between characters which you felt did not further the plot?
5. Once you finished reading, would you say there was enough tension and intrigue to keep you engaged?
6. Did any explanations or revelations seem too contrived or contradictory?
7. Which parts/scenes did you like the least? Could you tell me why?
8. Did you notice any inconsistencies in the timeline, characters, description, or other details? How about any redundancies?
9. At what point do you feel like the reader could use a break?
10. Do you feel the story started and ended in the right places?

Thanks so much, dear reader, for giving me your time and thoughts.

LEO

A three-letter word made me a murderess at the age of eight years. But having experienced the curses of that word, I was done with men as I grew up. All men. Except to outplay them in the New York financial arena. Then Crowned Sex enthroned in gorgeous velvet charm and lustful gallantry storms into my life. Spewing volcanic lava on my monumental arctic ice block. With the unapologetic fierceness of a savage god. Wearing crackling thunderbolts straight from the god Zeus. Explosive has nothing on it.

Adrian isn't hot, he's fucking hellish. He embarks on melting my ice block at the speed of lightning. But I was done with men. I was done with sex. For ever. I. Was.

ADRIAN

I scented her darkness from the moment I was told about her. The sight of her sealed my decision. She was the woman created for my own darkness. I set off to protect her even from herself. Protect her to claim.

Fuse her darkness with my own. For. Myself. I'd fended women off me with bazookas when I was done but they weren't. I wasn't prepared for the battle I soon fought. Not only with her but also with her family. And New York's billionaire gangsters who own entourages of corrupt cops and politicians. With every battle I won, she started new darker wars around me. You ate or you were eaten. Not even starving was an option.

NOTE: Although the blurb is in the first person, the story of Leo and Adrian is written in the third person. This story contains adult material including explicit sex and violence. You've been warned.

“If you feel I should stop, say you’re mine.”

“I am, I am! Just don’t stop, Adrian.”

He stopped, chortling deep in his chest, eyeing her from under his brows as his head lifted with her jerky thrusts. Adrian’s molten lava eyes radiated something utterly demonic but captivating, hypnotizing. They now seemed to shoot her senses with the wickedness every single cell in her craved. Those eyes concentrated on her flawed body, her utterly broken soul, crushing the fierce pride she falsely nurtured for her protection.

He made her feel invincible. Armored, even against his demonic wickedness.

He licked behind her ear, whispered, “Stop being your worst enemy, wildcat, and simply receive and revel in pleasure. Your whole body’s made to receive it. From me.”

Welcome to It's Raining Books. What is something you’ve lied about?

I tell a whole lot of fibs daily, hourly in fact, in my fiction writing. That’s what it’s all about. But the one lie I told that has left an impression in me is when I confirmed to my girlfriend’s parents in “God’s own country” Yorkshire that she was spending the weekend with me in London when I knew she was flying off to Cyprus for a weekend with her wealthy Russian boyfriend. The parents highly disapproved of the “Russky”, but my girlfriend long since married him and they live Happily Ever After in Dubai.

Who is the last person you hugged?

My son

What are you reading now?

Sooley by John Grisham and Win by Harlan Coben. Like in my writing, I tend to read more than one book simultaneously. The two are among my favourite American thriller writers.

How do you come up with the titles to your books?

In the beginning I did this by trial and error. I’d choose some random passage within the book and choose a title from that. But I’ve often had to listen to a fan or my beta readers when they make a suggestion or comment about some fault with the title, and change the title. For example, I changed Golden Shana Series title twice: from Dark Desires (too many other books out there with the same title) to Golden Svadishana (Svadishana too hard to pronounce and/or remember) to the final Golden Shana.

your dream cast for your book.

Oh wow, this one catapults me to outer space. When it comes to the Golden Shana Series, I think I’d have a tough time deciding between Shakira and Adriana Lima for Shana Lindqvist. By the same token I’d rack my brains and task my eyes for the candy when it comes to Roman Castell, who is the sum total of Zac Efron, Henry Cavill and Chris Evans sprinkled all in the right places!

An evening at the La Scala in Milan twirls the lives of five people into a web of rivalry, intrigues, heartaches, obsession, murder, loss, and revenge.

“… for those who love selective eroticism with substance. An exciting and sophisticated erotic thriller for the astute romance reader, woman or man.”

Love, a word Roman can hardly spell, hits him when he sees Shana one evening. She’s the first woman not dropping to her knees at his mere presence. Used to getting whatever he wants, he chases her. Only to discovers that she prefers the girls. Roman can’t let that deter him. But is he for once up against his own comeuppance? At any rate, he needs assistance, which comes in the form of Alyssa, Shana’s BFF. Trouble crops up when Alyssa is all too ready and willing to drop on her knees for him.

Roman can't get anywhere near Shana on his own. Would he start anything with Alyssa as long as this finally leads him to meet Shana in person?

Then there’s Marie, his current companion, who has a life-changing surprise for him.

Roman: I never chased after a woman. Then I caught a glimpse of the woman I would kneel for, but didn’t even know her name. Heck, I determined to find her if it took me the rest of my life.

Shana: He stood in the room with her. The frisson in the currents freaking between them knocked her senseless. The mutual force of predator and prey, blasting into her core ... her soul ... Danger. Keep far away from him

“Marie, what the hell are you doing here?”

“Roman! I could ask you the same.” Her eyes flitted from Bastian to Roman. Bastian had a surprised look on his face that must have matched her own. Here was Europe’s most loaded Adonis heartthrob he’d just mentioned a moment ago.

“I’m here to take you home.” Then he leant in closer to her face. “Both of you.”

This arrogant bastard! “Roman, I’m here to enjoy my Saturday night with my sister and Monika. You said you weren’t coming back to us!” She stressed the us so strongly that it came out like a violent hiss. She was almost livid with rage. Roman had no right to simply butt in on her evening and start claiming rights! He was the one who walked out on them. He was the one who ended their relationship over the phone! He was… shit!

Roman thumped on Bastian’s chest so hard that Bastian had to be held steady by several dancers to stop him toppling over. “You – whoever you are – keep your fucking hands off her!” Most dancers stopped dancing to watch the show. Roman stepped forward to now spit all that in Bastian’s face, their foreheads almost knocking, Roman bending down to make up for the height he had over Bastian. “Have I made myself understood?” he roared, and she feared he might actually hit his forehead on Bastian’s.

Like a pair of rutting bucks.

Her fury mingled with the fact that even with all of it, Roman inflamed her longing for him, ignited a burst of desire in her for him. Roman in all his infuriating masculine sexiness and stunning perfection that demanded attention like he was some sort of danger or magnificent delight. All eyes, male and female, were on him. She couldn’t believe that she felt a twinge of jealousy at the ogling women. God, was she for real?

But he looked absolutely delicious in light trousers and navy polo shirt and leather belt, Clarks Trimocc Sun, no socks. As if he was about to board his yacht and go for a cool long drink in the middle of the ocean. His clothes didn’t fight with his muscles, they complemented each other. That look and his air of absolute self-confidence, coupled with the aggression, were clitoris activators. The throbbing between her legs killed her.

Why couldn’t he see that he was the only one for her, the Neanderthal jerk?
