Making Christmas by Nancy Fraser

A 1980s Vintage Romance ...

It’s been five years since William Barrett returned to Dickens to take over as CEO of Wil-Bar Toys. He’s spent these past years helping build Wil-Bar into a leader in creative, handmade toys. His work ethic and drive has left him little time for a personal life. Or, perhaps he’s still pining for the one who got away.

Catherine Gates moved away from Dickens six years earlier. Now a staff reporter for a woman’s magazine, she’s returning to Dickens to do a story on Wil-Bar Toys new production methods and get the scoop on their upcoming holiday line.

When Will and Cat meet up again for the first time in years, it’s as if they’ve never been apart. Rekindling their friendship, and attraction, becomes more important than Cat’s article, or even the secrecy of the new toy lines.

Can these two childhood friends make up for lost time and pursue the romance they missed out on years earlier? Or, will Cat’s story expose too much and put them at odds with one another?

Santa Baby by Peggy Jaeger

It’s Christmas Eve morning in the tiny New England town of Dickens.

Santa’s arrival is imminent, and a hint of snow is in the air.

Amy Dorrit is just about to open her popular diner for the breakfast rush when she discovers an abandoned baby on her back doorstep.

Amy knows she should call the authorities and turn the infant over to them, but she just can’t. Thoughts of her own abandonment as a baby flood through her and she wants to keep the little one out of the hands of the authorities until the mother – hopefully –returns.

But will the mom come back? And if she doesn’t, what is Amy prepared to do about the baby who has, already, claimed her heart?

Read an Excerpt from Santa Baby

“What in the name of all that’s holy are you holding, Amy Dorrit?”

Willie Jackson stood at her office door, a lit cigarette dangling from a corner of his mouth, his leather jacket hanging open and his eyes as big and round as his county-famous blueberry pancakes.

“What does it look like?” Amy dug around in the carrier searching for a bottle, pacifier, something, to soothe the baby’s cries. “Lose the cigarette. It’s a baby and I’m pretty sure it’s hungry.”

He lifted those shocked eyes to Amy’s face. “Girl, you been keeping secrets from ol’ Willie?”

“Oh for Pete’s sake. Are you nuts, William Jefferson Jackson? It’s not my baby. I found it at the back door when I came downstairs.”

“Whose is it?”

“No idea.”

“What is it?”

Holding the small bundle like a football in one arm, she shoved the piece of paper she’d found at him. “Same answer. I haven’t looked yet. Here, read this. I found it tucked inside the blanket.” Once he had it, Amy placed her pinky finger over the baby’s lips. It immediately rooted, then latched on to suck.

“I knew it. It’s starving.”

“‘I’m sorry,” he read aloud, ‘but I can’t take care of her—’ well, we know it’s a girl –‘I have no job and no way to hold on to one with a baby. Please forgive me for leaving her like this, but I saw how kind you were yesterday and I know you’ll take care of her like I can’t.’” Willie scratched his head. “Well, shit. We got us a real abandoned baby, here, Ames ol’ girl.”

“Don’t curse in front of her.” She shot him an annoyed glare, her left eyebrow inching up her forehead to her hairline.

“It ain’t like she can understand me. She’s a baby, fer Chri-” Her other eyebrow followed its twin. “Er, pity’s sake.”

“I need something to feed her with.” She glanced around her office. “Can you get me one of the cake decorating bottles? The ones with the plastic tip? I think that’ll work.”

“What’a’ya gonna feed her? Frosting? You ain’t got no mother’s milk and you can’t feed her coffee creamer.”

“Dam-I mean, drat. You’re right. I can give her a little water to hold her over until I can run out and get her some formula.”

“Shouldn’t you call the police? I mean, she’s been abandoned, ain’t she? You can’t just keep her.”

Peggy Jaeger is a contemporary romance writer who writes Romantic Comedies about strong women, the families who support them, and the men who can’t live without them. If she can make you cry on one page and bring you out of tears rolling with laughter the next, she’s done her job as a writer!

Family and food play huge roles in Peggy’s stories because she believes there is nothing that holds a family structure together like sharing a meal…or two…or ten. Dotted with humor and characters that are as real as they are loving, she brings all topics of daily life into her stories: life, death, sibling rivalry, illness and the desire for everyone to find their own happily ever after. Growing up the only child of divorced parents she longed for sisters, brothers and a family that vowed to stick together no matter what came their way. Through her books, she’s created the families she wanted as that lonely child.

When she’s not writing Peggy is usually painting, crafting, scrapbooking or decoupaging old steamer trunks she finds at rummage stores and garage sales.

Dutybound by Mark Aaron Alvarez II

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Mark Aaron Alvarez II will be awarding a $15 Amazon or B/N GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

The world was their creation until they sought to destroy it.

Dutybound is the story of Terestria and its Virtues, heirs of nobility forced to face the Sins of their forefathers and bring their world from the brink of Darkness. Among them is Lucia Sanoon, High Maiden to the province of Moz and chosen of the Light Wings. The ancient relic, bestowed upon a long-forgotten civilization by the Light itself, was forged to harbor the Light's essence if ever Terestria's balance were threatened by the Darkness' desire to corrupt the Light's most-prized creation, Life. If successful and the long-standing covenant between the Light and its Protectors were ever to be broken, the Darkness would be free to roam Terestria and reclaim the land it had a hand in creating, bringing death and destruction to every corner of the world.

But as long as there is Light, there is hope. With the help of the Light Wings and its power, Lucia must heed its call to assemble the Light's Virtues and lead them into battle against the very Sins that seek to destroy their world. But finding the four will not be easy, for much of the knowledge is lost and the understanding of one's own morality is the only key to unlocking the power each of them holds within.

A story of faith and morality, Dutybound will lead you through a journey of self-discovery as our heroes face conflict from outside and within themselves. Duty, desire, envy, hope, hate, love, pride, and temperance all are challenged within this series in an epic tale that is sure to have you pondering your own true nature.

Ara grasped her blouse. This deepening wound tore at her chest, as though she knew this whole time that it would be here that her heart would break.

“Lady Ara,” called her loyal maid, Amelia, so struck with concern that the wrinkles in her forehead seemed to suddenly age her ten years. In her eyes was a clinging intuition.

Ara sensed her concern, as if the maid already knew, but spoke anyway. “He’s gone.”

“The master?” asked the maid.

“Stello.”

“My lady,” Amelia said with grief before bringing her eyes back to Ara.

There was then a lull as they both thought. The maid’s stare grew distant as Ara let out a faint whimper, breaking the still silence.

Finally, Amelia asked, “May I ask why the master left?”

Ara’s insides shuddered. “He fears of . . .” She hesitated, looking at the letter, fully dazed, unable to grasp the idea of its true meaning. It was as if something hid beneath his words, something he was not telling her. Memories flashed through her mind, and her chest tightened. It couldn’t have returned. It was her prayers that had saved them. It was her strength, her power that had defeated it in the first place. Could it still exist somewhere, outside the reach of man? “He fears of its return.” She felt the warmth of her tears beneath her eyes once more, while the maid’s face paled, her own fears apparent in this revelation. The war was supposed to be over.

Amelia wanted to release tears of her own. But still, she held an unchanging sternness of stone, something unbreakable, showing a strong sense of obligation and duty, no matter the adversity. She had to be strong for the lady even though she could not be strong for herself. “Lady Ara, I’m terribly sorry. Lucia . . .” Her concern for the child shone within the sparkles of her green eyes as she uttered her name. “Should I go to her?”

Ara looked up at her, her amber eyes still wet with tears. Despite the circumstances, she released a slight smile, remembering her daughter. “Yes, please. Thank you.”

The Romanov Legacy by Marilyn Barron

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Marilyn Baron will be awarding a $25 Amazon or B/N GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

Two women, centuries apart, and the secrets that bind them

Melody, a young single mother, discovers she’s descended from the last Tsar, Nicholas II. She becomes the best hope of a secret global society, Guardians of the Romanov Legacy, dedicated to restoring a Romanov to the throne of a New Russia. A diary and an heirloom necklace inherited from her murdered grandmother hold the key to her identity and to the location of the Tsar’s lost shipment of gold.

She must accept the sacrifices her birth demands and trust the machinations of the estranged father of her child. To refuse means turning her back on her heritage, her daughter’s legacy, and the long line of her family’s women who were keepers of the secret. Will her longing for true love have world-changing consequences?

A tiny tear slipped down her cheek. But that was as far as she would display her emotions. She held her head up regally. After all, she was an Empress. She was determined to die with dignity. She wondered if Marie Antoinette had held her head high before it was unceremoniously severed and dropped into a basket.

“There won’t be a last-minute reprieve if that’s what you’re thinking,” warned Miss Cormier.

Would they actually go through with it? Would they really execute her in cold blood like they did the Tsar and his family? She was terrified they would. She could hear the sound of her heartbeat amplified. She was having a full-blown panic attack. She couldn’t breathe. She feared she would die of fright before they had the chance to cut her down in a hail of bullets.

Miss Cormier lifted her hand to give the command. Hatred flared in her eyes. What had she done to deserve the woman’s anger? Fallen in love? Then the guards raised their rifles in unison to open fire. She closed her eyes tightly so they couldn’t see the hope fade from her face. She couldn’t bear to confront her own mortality. She held her breath.

Then she heard the bullets ping. Where was she hit? How long would it take to die? She hoped it would be over soon. She sagged in her chair, mercifully blacking out.

Smart Bitches Buy Bitcoin by Branden LaNette

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Branden LaNette will be awarding a $25 Amazon or B/N GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

It seems like everyone’s talking about Bitcoin these days. Still, a lot of people just don’t get it. Or they assume Bitcoin is just for tech-savvy millennial guys or rich investors like Elon Musk.

As for women, many of us didn't get a great financial education. Some of us shy away from conversations about money and investing especially if it has to do with the crazy world of cryptocurrencies.

What to do? Start with this brand new short, fun, and easy read,"Smart Bitches Buy Bitcoin: A Simple Guide for Women Who Want to Learn the Truth About Bitcoin and Control Their Financial Future.”

The book is designed to help women understand the current financial situation, why Bitcoin could be the life raft they need, and how to get started investing in it. Don’t leave your economic future to chance just because it seems scary or confusing and this is the perfect book to get you started.

Recently, at the annual gathering of the world’s elite in Davos, Switzerland (attendees included 119 billionaires, 53 heads of state, plus Shakira and Matt Damon), hedge fund manager Ray Dalio told the group, “Cash is trash. Get out of cash.” He went on to say that people who got stuck holding cash were going to feel stupid.

No one blinked. They’re the global elite, they already knew this was the case.

So where should you put your cash? Well, we know where not to put it, and that’s in the stock market.

The stock market isn’t a bubble that’s going to pop, it’s a super-bubble that’s going to eventually explode.

So, where do we think you should put your money? Anywhere that isn’t in cash, and anywhere that isn’t in stocks, that’s for sure.

What does that leave?

Well, there’s commodities. Like oil. And soybeans. Natural gas. Corn. Wheat. Cattle. Hogs. Lucky Charms. Whatever. And precious metals, of course: gold, silver, platinum, copper, etc.

All these things have a chance at growth, while the experts say cash is certain to drop in value. But do you know what is way better than all of them?

Yeah, you guessed it. Bitcoin.

About the Author:
Branden LaNette doesn’t look like a typical author but she has long ignored what she “should” do, say and look like. On her own at a very young age, Branden eventually found herself with the wrong guy, the wrong job, and a bleak future. The fairytale she was promised as a child never materialized.

Finally, Branden decided that she wanted something different for her life, and realized no one was going to do it for her. Prince charming wasn’t coming to save her—she’d have to save herself.

Step by step, decision by decision, through major trials and tribulations that would stop most people in their tracks, Branden learned how to turn heartbreak into happiness and self-judgement into inner joy.

Today, Branden LaNette is an entrepreneur, coach, speaker, wife, and stay-at-home Mom to six C-section babies (ages 1-16) and way too many f-ing pets. Somehow, however, she manages to juggle all of this effortlessly (a blatant lie) while pushing her way through the kinds of fear and self-doubts that whisper within all of us (totally true) to achieve her goals. Her most recent dream come true is this book, one that is destined to have a major impact on millions of women across the globe (or at least nine people in Michigan.)

Through it all, she has found her happiness, her joy, and more importantly, her voice.

Dakota needs help. Badly.

The last thing she expects is for the Bad Boy of Eternal Eros to step in, sweep her off her feet, and offer his protection.

Maybe she accepts because they were matched up at the last singles night. Maybe it was the scorching passion she experienced at his skilled hands. Maybe it’s the way he dotes on her daughter.

All she knows is that the more the lines between reality and fantasy blur, the harder it will be to let him go. The more time he spends posing as her fake fiancé, the more she realizes she’s no longer faking her feelings. With every touch, every kiss, every heated glance, she realizes she wants more than one night. She wants the scarred bad boy’s heart to be hers for all time.

Read an Excerpt

Dakota’s breath caught at the undercurrent that zapped between them. He cast her a sardonic grin. It was as if he knew she didn’t want to scene with him, and his gaze dared her to withdraw from participating.

Like she would give him the satisfaction of calling her a coward or a welcher. He didn’t know her.

But he was about to—intimately. Shivers washed over her in a tidal wave. For better or worse, she would know his touch. Unease churned with need, like her body couldn’t settle on one emotion or sensation.

Straightening her shoulders, she nodded, bowing her head out of respect. Better to begin as she meant to go on and avoid any punishments. She set the bin down in the corner, where it would be retrieved tomorrow. With her heart drumming a fast beat, she left the pit and headed toward the scene area indicated on the marker.

At least Ryker’s spot wasn’t a public one. Not that she minded public scenes or steered away from them, but in this, with a Dom she didn’t know, she preferred privacy. That way, if she embarrassed herself with him, no one else would be around to witness the spectacle.

Dakota rode the elevator down one floor and strode to private room number ten. The hallway was decorated like the floor upstairs, with dark gray hardwood floors and inky black walls. The golden lighting was muted, adding a seductive quality to the design. All the private rooms were comparable to one another in aesthetics, with the same color scheme. What differed in each one was the furniture contained inside, which varied from room to room. But each private room had its own bathroom, and a chest of drawers stocked with everything from condoms to lube to butt plugs and floggers.

Room number ten sported a black leather couch, a chair, and a black padded table that resembled what could be found in a doctor’s office. The backrest could be raised and lowered at will. There were metal stirrups that were currently retracted into the wood base below, and a number of silver loops to which to affix all manner of cuffs, bondage rope, and Velcro restraints.

Dakota quivered when she spied the Velcro restraints already in position on the table. Would he bind her to it?

And what type of scene would Ryker expect?

With a few deep, calming breaths, she knelt in the center of the room and awaited his arrival, trying like mad not to focus on her disquiet at scening with a new Dom, and instead on what she hoped would be a night full of pleasure.

The super-conscious mind is the most wonderful area of the mind.

However, awareness is not always in the mind. You do not always live in this section of the mind. Also, you are not always conscious in the super-conscious mind. You are generally aware in the conscious mind, and you may be visiting your own subconscious mind now and then. In your meditations you should be able to connect with your super-subconscious mind.

However, to reach your super-conscious mind is the entire game. You are consciously living within your super-subconscious mind. You are physically in the Now, but in your consciousness you are one with the One.

The more and more you detach, your own awareness of the conscious mind arises and the conscious mind attaches itself with the super-subconscious mind.

You become more super-conscious.

You tend to feel as if you are completely living in the moment, as if there is no past and there is no future. You are subconsciously certain that you are now becoming intense vibrating entities of the eternal. And this is very real, as real as a table, pen, or chair. This is super-consciousness.

When your awareness is in super-consciousness, you see yourself as a pure life force. You become aware of the same energy flowing through people, fruit, trees, and everything.

I have felt this myself during my meditation as flowing and gliding over the oceans, flying in the sky with no wings.

Super-consciousness is so permanent, so surreal, that nothing could touch it and nothing could hurt it. In this state you see the external world like a dream. Things begin to look transparent. People become transparent. At times people confuse this higher level of consciousness with out-of-body experience. But these are completely different things.

In out-of-body experience, you travel out of your body in your consciousness to be somewhere else, and then you come back into your own consciousness. However, living in your super-consciousness is being alive, very sensitive and aware within your own consciousness and your own body. Here you may be connected to your own super-consciousness while being detached from people around you.

This is a very beautiful and natural state to be in. While you are looking at another person, you are suddenly penetrating into his mind, his thoughts, and what he is thinking at that particular moment of time. Everything is crystal clear. He stands completely transparent in front of you and your X-ray eyes. Your super-consciousness is now connecting with his consciousness; hence, you are able to read him.

Truffle Me Not by M.K. Scott

The future of Cupid’s Catering Company hangs in the balance. With a rival bakery, owned by the queen of all mean, rich girls, Della is at a distinct disadvantage.

Della hinges her financial future on winning the local truffle contest. As if there wasn’t enough on her mind, additional problems arise, including missing cats, jewel thieves, and her desperate attempt to find the incredibly kind man who’d lent her hand when she had tire trouble.

Can she solve all these problems and find time to whip up a cookbook at the same time?

Read an Excerpt

“Cupid’s Catering Company and Bakery.” Della made sure to tack on the last part because the company’s name misled people who were looking for a bakery.

“I need a caterer for a wedding.”

“Sure.” Della cradled the phone between her ear and shoulder, picked up a pen, and glanced at her wall calendar. “Okay. We’ll need to schedule an appointment where we go over the number of guests, venue, date, and if there’s a kitchen onsite along with menu selections.”

A lengthy pause from the end made Della wonder if the call had dropped. Right about the time she decided to hang up, a breathy voice said. “December 24, this year. A Christmas wedding. It’ll be so beautiful. I’ll have marabou fur on my dress just like a certain singer.”

Della didn’t know any singer that went around dressed in marabou fur, but then again, she didn’t know any professional singers. What she did know, while a Christmas Eve wedding sounded romantic, it didn’t ring any bells for the attendees. Most folks would rather be spending the evening with their families. There was also the issue of no churches being available. Other venues would be closed for the holidays or hosting seasonal programs. “Do you have your venue already booked for the twenty-fourth?”

“Venue?” The caller echoed the word as Della stretched the phone cord to see how far it would go. It barely reached the commercial fridge, which she opened with one hand. Her fingers curled around a foiled covered oversized cookie sheet filled with premade chocolate chip cookies, waiting to be baked. Thank goodness she always planned ahead. Yesterday, she’d prepped for a rehearsal dinner and the Saturday morning rush. She didn’t, however, build in extra time for shopping for cat collars or brides that called before eight in the morning. Technically, she shouldn’t have answered the phone. Della transferred the tray to the island since she’d have to open the double doors on the convection oven before she could slip them inside. She needed to pin down a date for the unorganized bride to be. Something about weddings could turn perfectly ordinary women into demanding divas, and occasionally the groom became the one who believed his perfect wedding should be featured on the evening news.

Willa Thomas, Attorney-in-Love ~ 1956 - Will these co-workers be able to tow the company line and forego a chance at love? Or, will they risk everything for love?

The Bachelor Father ~ 1959 - Will Nanny #5 be the one to finally ace the job, and coax him out of his shell and back into life? And, will a family vacation to Paris fulfill their wildest dreams?

Read an Exclusive Excerpt from Willa Thomas, Attorney in Love ~ 1956

Aaron Baker ordered another beer from the harried bartender before joining his co-workers at a corner table. The place was packed as usual, and it took some fancy footwork to navigate the distance between the bar and the others. He’d no sooner sat down than his best friend Phil said, “Man, you are the luckiest son-of-a-gun on earth. You get the sweetest cases.”

Aaron shrugged and took a swig of his beer. “I suppose.”

“Manslaughter? And a high profile one at that?” Stopping only long enough to take a sip of his rum and cola, Phil continued, “And even better, you get to work with Willa Thomas.”

“Do you know her very well?” Aaron asked somewhat absently, his attention drawn to the middle of the bar where the assistant DA stood talking with one of the Appellate Court judges.

“No, not really,” Phil admitted. “I did nearly a month’s worth of research for old man Small last year. Yet when it came to picking a second chair, he took Willa. They got an acquittal and won a counter settlement, all based on my hard work.”

“You certainly can’t fault her record,” Aaron said. “She’s got a better decision ratio than either Small or Dobson.”

Phil raised his glass in a mock toast. “And despite those stuffy business suits she wears, she’s not hard on the eyes.”

“I haven’t been close enough in the two years I’ve been here to notice.”

Although he’d not admit it to Phil for fear of becoming water-cooler gossip, he had noticed Willa Thomas on a number of occasions. More than once, he’d taken a seat in the back of the courtroom just to watch her brilliant legal mind at work. The thought of actually working alongside her should be every young attorney’s dream, not just his.

And as Phil had said, Willa Thomas was definitely not hard on the eyes. Although she dressed like a business woman, all suits and hats and proper gloves, it wasn’t hard to see that beneath all those layers was the body of a very sexy woman.

“You can’t tell me your paths haven’t crossed at some time,” Phil said.

“I spent the majority of last year in Philadelphia working on the sports gambling scandal. And the six months before that in upstate Minnesota taking depositions and freezing my keister off.”

Phil nodded. “Oh yeah, I remember—the wrongful death suit. You won that didn’t you?”

Aaron tipped his beer back and took a drink before saying, “You betcha. Largest settlement against a public utility in state history.”

“A couple more cases like that and you’re a shoo-in to make partner,” Phil said.

“Not for another six to eight years. Rumor has it the corporate board refuses to award full partnerships until you hit your mid to late thirties.” He thought for a moment and then added, “Although I’m not sure Willa Thomas is there yet. Maybe they’ve changed their policy.”

“According to the girls in the steno pool—one of whom I might add that I’m currently dating—Willa Thomas is thirty-four, possibly thirty-five.”

“Really?” Aaron raised his eyebrows in a show of mock disbelief. “You’ve been dating someone?”

“Very funny. I don’t see your love life going anywhere.”

“No time, my friend,” Aaron told him. “I’m too busy working my way into that partnership. There’ll be plenty of time for a pretty little wife, a house full of children, and a white picket fence later.”

One person, Ella, has all the answers, but Dean can’t remember if she loved him or tried to kill him.

Roxanne “Rocky” Rivers struggles against her own demons, not voices, but a past trauma she can’t fully remember. She only knows everyone at school thinks she’s a slut and a head-case. A razor her only release for the pain. Rocky knows no one will believe a crazy girl who tries to kill herself.

The police won’t get here before he kills me. My mom stirs, reaches into her pocket, gets some keys. She reaches for the table she just tripped over.

So this is the way it’s going to end? My mom gets away while her insane boyfriend murders her insane son. Instead of fleeing though, she slips the key into one of the small drawers on the coffee table.

A crazy thought enters my head. She’s getting one of her bottles, and this has been an elaborate ruse so they can kill me and then celebrate. They’ll say I attacked him, and the police will believe it.

Danger to self and others.

She’ll get my money. He steps in front of me with his fists balled. This guy’s going to beat me to death while my mom drinks.

In the distance, sirens shriek. They won’t make it in time. I can imagine the red lights reflecting in pools of—

Blood spatters my face and foams from his mouth opened in a big O of surprise. He drops to his knees. Through the broken glass, I see cop cars flying up our road.

A gun drops from my mother’s hand.

I wonder if the bullet has gone through Paul into me, but I don’t feel any pain. He coughs again, blood gurgles from his mouth. He crumples to the floor.

The police burst through the door with guns raised just like on a cop show, only it couldn’t be any more real.

Company Assassin by Claudia Blood

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. One randomly chosen winner via rafflecopter will win a $50 Amazon/BN.com gift card. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

Welcome to It's Raining Books. What are your favorite TV shows?

This is where I admit that I don't have any streaming services. I have DVDs of Big Bang Theory, Firefly, and Supernatural that I still watch.

What is your favorite meal?

I really love a good cheesy wheezy with fries or a slice of new york style pizza.

If you were to write a series of novels, what would it be about?

I'm in the middle of releasing a Trilogy. The first book came out on January 15th. The next book went live on February 15. The series tagline is: Time is coming apart at the seams.

The first book is Company Assassin. An ex-assassin, demons, and obsessed company CEO. Can an orphan survive finding the truth of his past?

I have two other open series waiting in the wings.

Is there a writer you idolize? If so who?

If we are talking old school growing up authors. Alan Dean Foster, Ann McCaffrey, Mercedes Lackey...okay there are many more. They all had worlds, situations, and characters that I loved to gobble up.

I have an author crush on Penny Reid. I love her characters. I wish I knit so I could be invited to their knitting nights. They have great conversations.

How did you come up for the title of this book?

The Relic in the trilogy name was an element from a dream about the second book.

The scene opened with a team hacking through the jungle and uncovering this ancient ruin. They were desperately looking for Relics. (whatever that was)

Then inside was an alien machine. Rocks and dust fell down on them as they moved into the room. They put a silver pocket watch on a platform and turned the machine on.

Lights and electricity coalesced on a platform and the whole structure shook. But they stayed inside because they were desperate for one of these Relics.

What appeared on the platform? An '80's aerobic instructor who had been pulled forward in time. She was even wearing leg warmers!

It’s Duff Roman’s eighteenth birthday, but no one is lighting candles.

Turning eighteen in the orphanage on Kalecca means starvation for those who aren’t hired into a Family. Outside the Family compounds lies the jungle. And in the jungle lies death. And Relics—the only real currency on Planet Kalecca.

The orphans are Duff’s family, and he’s sacrificed everything to keep the orphanage running, even his chance to move on. Now, at eighteen, he has no choice but to leave. Without him to bring in extra money, the orphans will starve under the Company’s control. Duff's only chance to save them is to find a spot on an independent crew and hopefully find a Relic to sell.

A seemingly chance encounter with Z, leader of the most feared independent crew, offers Duff his opportunity to score a Relic. And offers Z a chance to relieve the guilt he feels over his past.

But a company assassin has plans to lay waste to Duff's future, and the orphanage as well.

Read an Excerpt

Duff fought the memory that came with the intensifying baked bread and fish smell. The jungle smell combined with it made the smell different from the orphanage.

He made himself follow Z, but his mind slipped back ten years earlier. To another place corrupted by this smell.

It could be just over the next rise that he’d find a hole just like the one from that night. That night he’d hidden while he waited for his mom. When they’d played this game before, she always found him. She’d throw in a leaf bag with his favorite treat. He’d pretend he was one of the animals she worked with. He’d crawl forward, testing the air and would gobble the treat.

She’d toss another and another until he was lured to her lap. She’d smile down at him and hug him tight. “My little jungle monkey.”

About the Author: Claudia Blood’s early introduction to Dungeons and Dragons, combined with her training as a scientist and a side trip into the world of IT set her up to become an award-winning author of Science Fiction and Fantasy.

"Put your hands up."

Shyla shrieked. Damien lifted his hands. He turned, pushing Shyla behind him, as he faced Carl. Only he wasn't there. Searching the area, he scanned for where the man could have gone.

"Let's get out of here."

Shyla's whisper was exactly what he'd been thinking, but he needed this man and wasn't ready to admit defeat. He wanted to best his father. It wasn't healthy what he was feeling, but it was a burning need in his gut. He had to take him down and he had to take him down in his fashion.

Suddenly, the man was there, standing about ten feet away, pointing a rifle at them. He looked like a hobbit, like Bilbo Baggins. The man hadn't changed in almost twenty years. He was short and thick and had white hair like Einstein, it stuck straight out from under a black ballcap.

Shyla's fingers dug into Damien's shoulder.

Damien kept his hands up. "I swear I am not here to hurt you. Or screw you over. I'm supposed to steal some jewels for him tomorrow night. Meaning, he is going to steal them tonight and turn me into the police tomorrow night."

Shyla's gasp was a cold jolt. He winced but didn't break eye contact with Carl.

"Come on." Carl turned and disappeared into the brush.

Damien grabbed Shyla's hand and hustled after him. After taking a few twists and turns and doing maneuvers to avoid the blackberry bushes, they found themselves standing in front of an open door.

NORMAN IS THE DOG WHO currently shares my life with me, and as you can see, he is adorable! In 2013, an EF5 tornado hit the vicinity of Moore, Oklahoma, causing two billion dollars of damage, including the major destruction of two schools and more than three hundred homes. It also killed twenty-four people. After the disaster, I volunteered with American Humane to help care for the animal survivors in an emergency shelter. I flew out there and was working with the feral cats and cats with feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV). A few days after I had arrived, they brought in the last of the “tornado dogs” from the Moore Animal Shelter and put them in a quarantine area. The other volunteers working with the dogs spent all day cleaning crates and walking the dogs. Since I certainly wasn’t taking the cats for walks and feral cats wanted nothing to do with any of us, I had extra time, so I offered to help care for these quarantined dogs.

So Not My Type by Amelia Kingston

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Amelia Kingston will be awarding a $10 Amazon or B/N GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

An endearingly irreverent love story.

To Jackie Ryan, insults are foreplay and love is war. What the feisty redhead lacks in stature, she makes up in attitude. She’s made more than one grown man cry and she’s damn proud of it. Little does the rowdy barista know she’s about to meet her match in the shape of a walking, talking pair of starched khakis.

When unassuming Eddie Jaworski stumbles into a quirky coffee shop, he isn’t expecting a battle of wits with the maniac behind the counter. Still, he can’t help be intrigued by the endearingly irreverent human enigma. She’s brash, but considerate. Closed off to most, but fiercely loyal to a few. Everything is a joke, except those things that are sacred. Jackie doesn’t trust easily and if he wants to get close, he’s going to have to work for every inch. Good thing he’s up for the challenge.

But Eddie has a secret—one he didn’t mean to keep—that’s going to tug at the delicate strings weaving the pair together. When everything begins to unravel, Jackie must decide just what she’s willing to risk for love.

Read an Excerpt:

“That it? That all?” He winks. This fucker actually winks at me. The coffee shop is dead quiet. The furious beating of my heart fills the room, mixed with Jackie’s heavy breaths. She stares into my eyes, questioning. Challenging. Demanding. I am stripped naked by her gaze, awaiting my fate like a convicted man. A slow smile blooms across Jackie’s rosy lips just before she launches herself at me.

She takes two quick steps and jumps on me, wrapping her legs around my hips and snaking her arms around my neck. I stumble back at her force. Overcompensating, I lurch forward, and we slam against the display case.

Jackie is coiled around me, pinned between my body and the curved glass. She arches her back away from the cold surface, pressing herself harder against me. The soft light of the case behind her catches the red hues in her hair and there is a devious twinkle in her eye. She looks like trouble wrapped in temptation. I crash my mouth on hers and those pillowy lips part for my eager tongue. She tastes sweet and warm and wicked, like dessert for dinner.

“Eddie.” She moans my name—my actual name—grabs a handful of my hair and tugs. She’s not gentle as she tightens her legs around my waist and digs her boots into my lower back. The sensation makes me desperate, and I kiss her like it’s the last thing I’ll ever do.

Knowing Jackie, it just might be.

About the Author: Amelia Kingston is a California girl, writer, traveler, wife and dog mom. She survives on chocolate, coffee, wine, and sarcasm. Not necessarily in that order. She’s been blessed with a patient husband who’s embraced her nomad ways and cursed with an impatient (although admittedly adorable) terrier who pouts when her dinner is five minutes late.

She loves to write about strong, stubborn, flawed women and the men who can't help but love them. Her irreverent books aim to be silly and fun with the occasional storm cloud to remind us to appreciate the sunny days. As a hopeless romantic, her favorite stories are the ones that remind us all that while love is rarely perfect, it’s always worth chasing.
