Why do you write in your genre? What draws you to it?

I think crime fiction is the most honest way to deal with the issues and ideas that inhabit my mind. it’s a prism through which we can examine the best and worst in our nature. Those dichotmies fascinate me. How the best people can do the worst things for the best reasons.

What research is required?

For my books I do a lot of research into forensic science, anatomy, martial arts and firearms. I also have done research into lockpicking, auto theft and fencing stolen property. Most of this was done by asking people I grew up with LOL Name one thing you learned from your hero/heroine.I think Nathan taught me that doing the right thing is never easy but it’s always worth it.

Do you have any odd or interesting writing quirks, habits or superstitions?

Haha well I don’t like setting my hat on the bed. it was an old superstition that my grandma gave me and it still gives me the heebies if I let my hat hit the bed.

Are you a plotter or a pantser?

I’m a hybrid. I write a general synopsis but then I go where the story takes me.

Look to your right – what’s sitting there?

A Brazilian cavalry sword.

Anything new coming up from you? What?

My next book is a southern heist novel tenatively titled BLACKTOP WASTELAND.

Do you have a question for our readers?

Yes. What makes a great novel in your opinion?

Whether it's working at his cousin's funeral home or tossing around the local riff raff at his favorite bar, Nathan Waymaker is a man who knows how to handle the bodies. A former Marine and Sheriff's deputy, Nathan has built a reputation in his small Southern town as a man who can help when all other avenues have been exhausted. When a local minister with grandiose ambitions is found dead, Nathan is approached by his parishioners who feel the local police are dragging their feet with the investigation. What starts out as an easy payday soon descends into a maze of mayhem filled with wannabe gangsters, vicious crime lords, porn stars, crooked police officers and a particularly treacherous preacher and his mysterious wife. Nathan must use all his varied skills and some of his wit to navigate the murky waters of small town corruption even as dark secrets of his own threaten to come to the surface.

Read an Excerpt:

Fella tried to sucker punch me, but I spun to my left and slipped his punch while driving the heel of my right hand up and under his chin. His feet came off the floor a few inches then his baggy jeans dropped to his ankles as he crumpled to his knees. His boxers were tattered and dingy, but at least he had them on. He looked like a penitent as I punched him dead in the mouth with my left hand. I felt his full lips flatten against his platinum encrusted teeth. One of them gave way, and I saw light bounce off it as it skittered across the floor. Fella fell on his side keening like a wounded calf.

The guy with the Trailer-Hitch was shorter but stocky with some solid muscle on him. He pulled a pipe wrench out of his back pocket.

Jesus, I was going to have to talk with Bradley about his security. He swung a forehand shot at my head like he was holding a tennis racket. I stepped forward, getting inside the arc of the swing. Instead of getting brained with the wrench, I ended up trapping his right arm against my side. I dropped the salt shaker and snaked my left arm around his right bicep and placed my right hand on his shoulder. Then I pulled down with all my strength. I raised my knee to meet his face and felt the satisfying crunch of his nose and teeth shattering. I picked him up by his shirt and his belt and tossed him over the back of the booth where Lisa and I had been sitting. Our drink glasses crashed to the floor as he landed on our table. He slid off the table and fell to the ground with a mouth full of blood. He began making wet, gurgling noises.
