Ella is a middle-aged woman with a stagnant career, an exasperated teenage daughter, and a husband that has left to make a new life with another woman. Her first attempt at dating is a disaster, and in an attempt to refocus her life and rediscover her joy, Ella goes fishing. It is here that she meets Dennis, the older, captivating man that ends up saving her life and stealing her heart. But Dennis has a history, and Ella might just be in for the biggest heartbreak of her life if she can not get her emotions under control and face the demons from her own past.

“Hey, El.” His voice sailed out to her softly, part of the breeze caressing her cheek and automatically, instinctively, Ella turned, grinning to find him right in front of her, his hands out, reaching. He jerked his head toward the band playing on the sidewalk right beside them. “Isn’t this our song?”

With a good-humored eye roll, she took a step back. “We don’t have a song.”

“Ella!” he chastised softly, persistently keeping his hands up, ready to take hers. “I’m disappointed. We do too have a song. That night. Out in your yard. Sunburnt from a day of fishing. Full moon shining down like a spotlight. Your old radio playing this song and some static…. C’mon. Really? You had on that top… it billowed out and you said you felt you had wings…”

Finally, she surrendered a smile. “I remember. Of course. But-”

“Just a dance. C’mon. We’re in the middle of a crowded street. One dance.”

She had no choice. The memory of that night flooded out any willpower. The smell of the grass. The cool night air chilling her burnt skin. His calloused fingers brushing against the backs of her hands and then her shoulders. She was transported back to that as soon as they moved together.
