Broken: Secrets in Madison Falls by Rachel Hanna - Virtual Tour and Giveaway

Today author Rachel Hanna visits on her tour with Goddess Fish Promotions for the contemporary romance, "Broken: Secrets in Madison Falls".

Rachel will be awarding a $25 Amazon GC to a randomly drawn commenter during the tour, so complete the Rafflecopter entry at the end of this post to be entered!

Thanks to Rachel for answering all my prying questions!

Why do you write in your genre? What draws you to it?

I write in the romance genre because it's what I personally like to read. I think romance allows all of us to connect since most people walking the face of the planet have either been in love, had a crush or had their heart broken. It's a way that we all relate to each other. To me, romance is about hope, and I like stories that make me feel good after reading them. With my busy life (writing and homeschooling three kids), I like to zone out so I don't read books that take a rocket scientist to understand or remember all the parts and pieces. Romance is fun to write because creating characters that will eventually fall in love is entertaining to me!

What research is required?

It depends on the book. Some books require little to no research. Most of the time, the research involved is more about locations, but one of my recent releases called “War Woman” required a lot of Cherokee legend research to make it historically accurate.

Name one thing you learned from your heroine.

That being strong doesn't mean being alone. Bella was a strong woman, although with some major faults, but she couldn't see that she was worthy of being loved by a real man.

Do you have any odd or interesting writing quirks, habits or superstitions?

Hmmm.... Not really. I guess writing in my vehicle in the driveway might be weird to some people. :) When I am tired of typing, I like to dictate my stories into my iPad, but I won't do it in the house for fear that my husband or kids will hear me. So, I often sit in my car out in my driveway so I can speak into my iPad without sounding like a nut!

Are you a plotter or pantser?

Pantser all the way! Right now, I am writing a first person New Adult story and I have NO idea where it's going. I just started writing to see if I could do it. Most of the time, I know the general idea of the story before I start, but I don't do big, long outlines or anything like that because it squashes my creativity immediately.

Look to your right – what’s sitting there?

A treadmill that I hang my bra on at night but never walk on! How's that for honesty?

Anything new coming up from you? What?

I just finished two novels back to back - “War Woman” and the first January Cove novel. I will be adding more to the January Cove series as well as doing some stand alone novels this year!

Do you have a question for our readers?

Sure! My question would be: What is one thing you HATE to see in a romance novel?

When twenty-four year old Bella Clay experiences yet another major loss in her life, she is forced to come home and become a young, single mother to her seven year old nephew. No one in the small town of Madison Falls knows just how damaged she is, and they certainly don't know her dirty little secret about where she's been for the last two years.

Grant Brady is the local hunk who works as the elementary school PE and history teacher. When he takes an interest in helping Bella start over in Madison Falls, she tries to push him away afraid that he will find out her dark secrets. What she doesn't know is that Grant has a secret of his own.

Will love prevail or will one or both of them run for the hills out of fear?

This book is a novella, so you can enjoy it in just one day! :)

Now enjoy and excerpt:

“You should never be judged for that, Bella. You couldn’t help that. I think you’re too hard on yourself.”

“Oh, really? I don’t think I’m hard enough on myself.”

“Why do you want to punish yourself?” he asked.

“Who says I’m punishing myself?” It was getting way too real for Bella.

“It’s obvious, Bella. You deserve good things. A good life. People who love you…”

“I’ve made some big mistakes in my life, Grant. You have no idea who you’re talking to. I don’t deserve nearly as much as you think.”

“Have you murdered someone?”

“Of course not.”

“Stolen?”

“Nope.”

“Then you deserve whatever kind of second chance you need. End of story. Now come on…” he said as he took her empty cup and threw it away. Grabbing her hand, he pulled her down the sidewalk and into the pavilion that was blaring with music. Without warning, Grant pulled her close and started dancing with her. Thankfully, the music was fast, and she was a pretty good dancer. They laughed as they danced, and for once Bella felt like her real world was miles away.

Nine Tail Fox by Camille Picott - Review tour and Giveaway

(Short Middle Grade Fairy Tale)

This review is done in conjunction with the author's virtual tour with Goddess Fish Promotions.

Camille will be awarding an autographed Raggedy Chan bookmark to every commenter; a Chinese Heritage Tale illustration signed by the author and illustrator to two randomly drawn commenters during the tour, and a grand prize of a Limited Edition Raggedy Chan Doll to a randomly drawn commenter during the tour. A choice of a Raggedy Chan doll or signed Chinese Heritage Tale print will be awarded to a randomly drawn host (US only), so complete the Rafflecopter entry at the end of this post to be entered to win.

When fifth-grade Emma Chan-McDougal is ridiculed by her classmates for being part Chinese, she's devastated. To ease Emma's wounded self-esteem, her aunt, a Chinese immigrant, spins the mythical tale of a brave little Nine-Tail Fox named Ainu who lives in San Francisco.

In a parallel animal world that comes to life when humans slumber, Ainu Nine-Tail and her mother face off against Chih Yu, an ancient demon who feeds on hatred. As the last of their clan, the Nine-Tails are honor-bound by a family oath to defend the Chinese animals from the demon. When Chih Yu kills her mother and leads an angry mob against Chinatown, Ainu is left to complete the task alone. Raw with grief and only partially trained for battle, Ainu must reach deep inside herself to find the wisdom and courage to save her people.

Will the journey of Ainu Nine-Tail help Emma find the strength to confront the school bullies and win back her confidence?

In this modern Chinese fable, Chinese-American author Camille Picott draws on her heritage to weave a story of courage, truth, and adventure.

Nine-Tail Fox from Camille Picott is a fable that Emma's Aunt Grace tells her niece when Emma comes across her own encounter with being made fun of because she's different. The fable is bookended by Emma's story--and, to me, her story was the weakest part of the book. It does give a reason for the fable to be told, but the ending left me uneasy...it was too easy and too pat.

I had also read the first book in this series and had hoped this book would be set up similar--with the action returning to the today world of Emma so we could see some character development that paralleled the action in the fable. I hope that Ms. Picott will return to that format in future books.

The fable itself, though, was a very interesting read--reminding me a bit of Animal Farm by George Orwell-- in the animals you could see the weaknesses and foiables of humans--and this part would be wonderful for parents to share with their children.

Rated 4 Flowers - This was a very good book! I'd recommend it to my friends.

Now enjoy an excerpt:

A young nine-tail fox stood at the railing of a freighter steamship, white fur ruffling in the nighttime breeze. Her real name was Lang-Dao, which meant “bright leader,” but everyone called her Ainu. It was her mother’s nickname for her, meaning “sweet girl.”

Most of the humans on the ship slept in their bunks, leaving the deck swathed in silence and darkness. Hiding from those few humans still awake, Ainu and Mama Nine-Tail stood in the shadow of a big coiled rope.

The ship rode the ocean’s deep, even breaths. Ainu stared at the lights spangling the silhouetted city. The tall buildings yawned up at the sky like jagged teeth, seeming on the edge of violence.

The moon, three-quarters full, hung crookedly in the night. It shed light on a small island between the city and freighter. No plants grew on that mound of bronze-colored earth. Two long arms of land sprouted on either side of it. In the rippling light, those narrow peninsulas gave the island the appearance of having wings.

Studying that harsh landscape and, beyond it, the massive mainland city, Ainu shivered.

“San Francisco doesn’t look very welcoming,” she said, leaning against Mama.

“That is because Chih Yu is there,” Mama said. “He spreads his hatred for the Chinese among the American animals.”

“Which is why I must begin my training as soon as we get to shore,” Ainu said. She hoped she didn’t sound too eager. It wasn’t good to be excited when her fellow animals suffered. “So I can help protect the Chinese animals,” she added.

Mama nodded. “Master Zheng sent me word of events in America before we boarded,” she said. Master Zheng was Mama’s longtime friend. He sent her regular reports on Chih Yu’s activities in America. “We could very well find ourselves part of the greatest battle against Chih Yu since the time of the Yellow Emperor. Chih Yu has become corporeal, my daughter.”

Camille Picott is a fifth-generation Chinese American. She writes science fiction and fantasy books with Asian characters and/or Asian settings. Camille grew up reading speculative fiction stories largely devoid of Asian characters and culture. This, coupled with a passion for her heritage, is the reason she strives to bring some aspect of Eastern myth, legend, culture, and ethnicity to all of her writings.

A Matter of Circumstance and Celludrones by Claire Robyns - Virtual tour and giveaway

Today author Claire Robyns visits on her tour with Goddess Fish Promotions for the Victorian Steampunk/Paranormal adventure novel, "A Matter of Circumstance and Celludrones".

Claire will be awarding a $50 Amazon gift card to two randomly drawn commenters during the tour, so leave a comment today and follow the rest of her tour by clicking on the banner above.

Lady Lily d'Bulier is prim, proper, and prefers to think of herself as pragmatic rather than timid. And avoiding life-threatening situations at all costs is just plain practical. But everything changes when Lord Adair tracks her down in London; searching for answers he seems to think she has.

Greyston Adair is a blackguard and a smuggler, although British Customs will have to catch him red-handed to prove the latter. Fortunately, the dirigibles they float around in have never been able to get near his air dust.

Hell is rising, One Demon at a Time...

With Lady Ostrich hunting them, and the mystery of how their lives tie back to Cragloden Castle and the powerful McAllister clan, Lily has no option but to throw propriety to the wind and run off with Greyston to Scotland, away from the immediate danger and toward possible answers.

Now enjoy an excerpt:

She glanced across to find him staring out of his window.

In profile, silky brown hair stroked the hollow below his cheekbone and his clenched jaw formed a rigid line. His trousers were a dark grey, matched with a waistcoat worn over a crisp white shirt. Broad shoulders filled a meticulously tailored jacket that was left unbuttoned. He’d crossed one leg over the other and rested an elbow on the door ledge.

He looked every inch the well-groomed gentleman who’d been admitted to Lady Cheshire’s Mummy ball.

Every inch the heart-stopping Lord Dashing.

Her gaze settled on the ruined neck cloth and loose ties hanging down his front. A blush heated her throat as she recalled the unfamiliar hardness of lean muscle and his particular scent of pine forest and ash and something altogether male. She’d danced her share of waltzes, but this took intimacy to an entirely new extreme.

He brought his attention from outside to meet her brazen stare with a quirked brow. “At least you haven’t leapt to your death yet.”

The heat drained from her skin. Lily lowered her eyes, clasping her fingers in her lap to hide the trembling.

I’m not dead.

She lifted her gaze to him. “What do you want with me, Lord Adair?”

The ghost of that exact question, asked as she’d served him tea in her drawing room, answered. I knew Lady d’Bulier. Lily held her breath.

Lord Adair grimaced. “I knew your mother, Lady d’Bulier.”

She let that breath out on a trembling sigh. “You mentioned something about keeping me safe. From what?”

In response, he half-rose and rapped hard up against the roof with his fist. A moment later, the carriage drew to a halt in a clearing alongside the road.

Lily’s hand quickly went to the door handle on her side. She hesitated. There was no urge to run for her life. She was more afraid of her memories, of what might or might not be real, than of Lord Adair.

When Lord Adair alighted and offered her a hand, she shifted along the seat and allowed him to help her out. Neither of them wore gloves. Skin touched skin as she stepped from the carriage.

One more intimate social transgression; she was beginning to lose count.

She slid her hand from his as soon as her feet touched the ground. Her slippers were no protection from the mulch of fallen leaves and damp soil as she walked beneath a cluster of trees.

She spun about, determined to get some answers, but her gaze stalled on the large man in the driver’s box. “He’s the celludrone,” she gasped. “He’s the one who fought that woman.”

She’d only caught snatches of him before Lord Adair had pushed her out of sight behind the settee. The aftermath, however, was burned into her skull. This man, and Ana, torn apart at their seams, nothing left but mechanical pieces strewn across her drawing room. Dear Lord, had these spells she suffered from evolved into some type of visionary premonition? Had she witnessed her imminent death?

Speak No Evil by Tanya Anne Crosby - Review tour and giveaway

(Full length, romantic suspense)

This review is done in conjunction with the author's virtual tour with Goddess Fish Promotions.

Tanya will be awarding a $50 Amazon or Nook gift card (winner's choice) to a randomly drawn commenter during both this and the Kissed Tour via the Rafflecopter form at the end of this post.

Lifting the veil of secrecy on a grand Southern family in decline, author Tanya Anne Crosby explores the lives of Caroline, Augusta, and Savannah Aldridge, three sisters who share a dark past and an uncertain future…

Caroline Aldridge was surprised by the number of mourners at her mother’s funeral. Evidently the newspaper heiress who had caused her children so much pain was well-loved by everyone else in Charleston. Now she was gone, leaving behind countless secrets—and a few demands: Caroline and her sisters must live together for one year or lose their inheritance. And Caroline must take over The Tribune. But a killer is making headlines, and Caroline may have unwittingly stepped into the crosshairs…

A series of kidnappings and murders resurrect the sisters’ memories of their brother’s disappearance as a child—and Caroline fears she may be next. Yet in the midst of her turmoil, she may be rekindling a romance she’d extinguished long ago. With Jack back in her life and the tattered bonds of sisterhood slowly mending, Caroline hopes the family can restore its position in Charleston society—unless a sinister force beyond their control tears them apart forever…

Complex and full of details, Speak No Evil is an engaging suspense.

The author covers incredible amounts of ground in this book, building backstory (the sisters' dysfunctional life with their mother who never stopped mourning the loss of her son) , the relationship between Jack and Caroline, the disappearance of a young girl, Caroline's being thrust into power at her mother's newspaper, and a possible serial killer.  There's an insane amount of stuff happening here, and amazingly, the author manages to make it all relate.

Some of the story is a bit gruesome -- to be expected when there's a killer on the loose, and there are some very sad things that happen as well.  Characterization is important, and there are piles of secondary characters, well drawn, three dimensional characters, who are integral to the story.

All in all, this is a really good read.  Perhaps not as "edge of your seat" as I'd expected, due in large part to all the different storylines, but still fascinating and intriguing.  I really enjoyed it.

Rated 4 Flowers - This was a very good book! I'd recommend it to my friends.

Now enjoy an excerpt:

“Jack!” she whispered frantically, “Come back—please come back!”

Jack’s heart tripped. Those were words he’d been waiting to hear for years, but something in her tone told him that it wasn’t for the reason he hoped. Thankfully, he hadn’t gone very far, and even as he asked, he turned the car around. “Is everything OK, Caroline?”

“No!” The single word was filled with panic, and the tightness in Jack’s chest intensified.

“Caroline, what’s wrong?”

“Someone’s here…”

Wedging the phone between his face and his shoulder, Jack turned on his siren lights. “Stay on the phone, Caroline!” he demanded and radioed for backup, stepping on the gas.

Caroline crouched by her mother’s desk with the phone clasped to her ear. She’d gone straight to the phone, intending to call the police and her fingers automatically dialed Jack’s old number. She hadn’t even realized she still remembered.

“Hurry, Jack!” she whispered.

Up From the Grave by Marilyn Leach - Virtual Book Tour and Giveaway

Today author Marilyn Leach visits on her tour with Goddess Fish Promotions for the cozy mystery novel, "Up From the Grave".

Marilyn will be awarding an e-Book copy of her first book, Candle For A Corpse to a randomly drawn commenter at each stop, plus a grand prize of a $20.00 gift card to the Pelican Book Group website to a randomly drawn comenter during the tour.

Marilyn was kind enough to answer all my prying questions.  Thank you!

Why do you write in your genre? What draws you to it?

I wrote my first mystery when I was nine years old. It was a play and the neighborhood children came to the backyard performances. Five cents included popcorn. The first read-for-enjoyment books I really liked were mysteries. Then, when I met Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot, well, the dye was cast. It was my travels in Europe and exploring England that made me go in the English mystery direction. I have good friends that live in Berkshire and they proof my manuscripts for language, police procedure, and other cultural corrections. I like a good brain-tickle where things end up as they should accompanied by humor, uplift, and quirky characters. Basically, there are many others who enjoy that combination as well.

What research is required?

Thinking through how to give clues and information without telegraphing the who-done-it takes some real crafting. In Candle for a Corpse, issues from World War II came into play that I needed to research. Every book calls for a certain amount of research depending on plot and direction. In one mystery I had to research English village history, English flora and fauna according to the season, British police structure, venomous animals, English church hymnody, and that’s just for starters.

Name one thing you learned from your heroine.

If I’m feeling overwhelmed, Berdie is still focused. If I’m struggling, Berdie is on top of it. If I’m ready for a party, Berdie is stuck in on her work. Character development is consistent, even when dirty dishes are waiting in my kitchen sink.

Do you have any odd or interesting writing quirks, habits or superstitions?

I subscribe to Country Homes and Interiors, British version. I read it almost every morning so that by the end of the month I’ve read it cover to cover. It really offers far more than home interior; it’s an English country life montage: gardening, seasonal food, events, upstart businesses. I find it extremely relaxing and informative all at once. It’s amazing how little tidbits of information end up in my writing and just add that extra flare to the story.

Are you a plotter or pantser?

I’m a plotter. I actually visually create a map of the story including red herrings, major clues, and twists. My nephew, with whom I’ve done writing projects, helps me to see the flaws, or how to heighten plot points. But then when I’m putting words down for the story itself, fun little flourishes happen that bring extra color. It’s having a strong plot line that gives me room to dance.

Look to your right – what’s sitting there?

Oh my goodness. My desk, (I’m at my computer which is just next), that is laden with writing notebooks, Conflict and Suspense by James Scott Bell, Harbrace College Handbook of Grammar, three scented candles, a Royal Stuart creamer and sugar that are stuffed with matches for the candles, paper clips, tacks and erasers, and a pen holder of modeled brass that sports a picture of my mother, older sister and myself from when I was a child. Oh yes, there’s also the toile-du-joule decorated letter file full of bills and a cold neglected cup of tea.

Anything new coming up from you? What?

I’m currently working on a Berdie Elliott Ascension Sunday Mystery called Into the Clouds. During an Ascension procession in the village of Aidan Kirkwood, a person has gone missing. Berdie is called upon by the missing person’s family to find the person and any malevolent who may be involved. It has a host of fun characters, as well as shadowed ones, that brings Berdie’s church work head on into her investigative work. And her vicar husband is not keen on it. It has been great fun to write.

Do you have a question for our readers?

Is it cover art or back page description that makes you choose to pick up a book for a look-see by an author unknown to you?

A Lenten sod turning ceremony for a new water feature in the back garden of St. Aidan of the Wood Parish Church goes utterly pear-shaped when the upturned soil reveals a human skeleton. With Berdie Elliott at the helm, the whole of Aidan Kirkwood digs into the mystery. When the bones held life, just who was this person? Who is the mysterious contessa who arrives on the garden scene? And what does the young and beautiful Robin Derbyshire's wedding have to do with the grave? Unearth the answers in this fun spring romp.

The constable bellowed forth making his rotund shape heave. “Everyone sit down, or I’ll arrest the lot of ya.”

The boom sent baby Katy Donovan into a great crying frenzy, which soon became a chorus when Dotty Butz and several other infants joined in. Few paid attention to Goodnight’s command.

Dr. Meredith bent close to the earth and pushed aside additional dirt revealing more remains.

Berdie’s curiosity got the better of her, and deftly she stepped to the sight the doctor examined.

“Human, a little one,” the pathologist said discreetly and stood.

“Well I never,” Berdie exhaled, “of all times and places.”

“Quite,” the animated voice of Mr. Webb sounded. “Surely, there’s been some mistake.”

Goodnight, standing next to Berdie, grunted, took a deep breath, and trumpeted across the crowd, “I’m declaring this a crime scene. You lot go home now.”

“Albert, is this really necessary?” Mr. Webb’s disgust was in sharp contrast to his smart dress.

“Do pigs grunt?”

“Reverend Elliott, Wilkie Gordon’s collapsed,” a voice cried out.

Berdie caught her breath as Hugh, quite fit for a man his age, nearly hurdled the chairs to get to Mr. Gordon. A small group had gathered round.

“I appreciate your concern, but please stand back, give him room to breathe,” Hugh ordered.

Edsel came next to Hugh and moved people along as Hugh attended to the old gentleman.

“I said go home!” Goodnight bellowed like an evening foghorn.

Whipped by the swirl of events and Goodnight’s volume, a mad migration of people took flight for the front road. Chairs tipped and children were swept up. Mr. Webb hurriedly escorted the contessa back to her limousine, and Dave Exton, who seemed to relish the action, went snap happy with his camera.

Dr. Meredith turned his attention to Hugh and Mr. Gordon. He took a step.

“Stay right here, Doctor. Vicar’s doin’ a fine job,” Goodnight growled.

“Are you mad, Goodnight?” Dr. Meredith frowned and moved quickly to Wilkie’s side.

Berdie took in the policeman. “Shouldn’t you be doing something to help Mr. Gordon, Constable Goodnight?”

“More important I keep an eye on this.” The law officer stabbed his thumb in the direction of the skeleton. “I shall be calling the Yard in on this.”

Fueled by grief after his fiancée is brutally murdered, Detective Sam Walker focuses on finding her killer -- a calculating predator who binds books with human skin.  Dani Barrington, the newest member of NOPD's Victim and Witness Assistance Unit and a survivor of another frightening attack, helps him discover the terrifying link between the monster's known victims.  Despite his anguish, Sam is struck by Dani's strength and determination, especially when her inquisitive  nature makes her the killer's next target.  He must find a way to protect her or risk losing the one woman who can bring his dead heart back to life.

Enjoy an excerpt:

"Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned." NOPD Detective Sam Walker's low rasp echoed inside the tiny confessional within the deep recesses of St. Mary's Church. He pressed his damp palms to his thighs. "It's been nine months since my last confession."

"Continue."

"My sins are... indescribable..." He let the word trail off. Sweat pooled at the base of his spine. "I don't know if I can--"

"You must voice your transgressions, son, to get them off your chest. It's the only way to gain absolution."

"I don't deserve God's forgiveness."

"Sam, tell me the truth." Father O'Malley cleared his throat. "Is this about Kristen?"

"She died a horrible death," Sam whispered, his heart breaking all over again for his fiancée and the family he would never have with her.

The priest paused.

"It's been a long time."

"Eight fucking -- sorry, Father." Sam broke off and swallowed, doing his best to regain his composure. "Eight long months. I thought I was coping, but I can't get past it. Especially since I'm the reason she's dead."

"How did you come to that conclusion?"

Sam pressed his lips together. Every time he thought about his fiancée's brutal murder, his gut clenched. He should have taken her to dinner that night like he'd promised, instead of letting the job get in the way. The Glock riding his hip was a constant reminder he'd been a detective first, and her intended husband second.

God should damn me straight to hell.

Father O'Malley shifted inside the tiny booth, and the ornate screen between them shuddered. The too-sweet odor of funeral lilies wafted over Sam.

"You didn't murder her, my son. Some sick, depraved individual did it."

"I was supposed to protect her."

"You were doing your job."

"When I should have been with her. Keeping her safe." Agony pierced his soul. He dropped his elbows to his knees and hung his head. His voice broke. "I let her die."

"You didn't let her die, Sam. A terrible thing happened. It wasn't your fault. God doesn't hold you responsible."

"Well, He should. I'm guilty."

"Sam--"

"He... he skinned her, Father. I don't know why, but he did." Tears burned his eyes.

Clearly shaken, Father O'Malley murmured more words of condolence. "I'll say another prayer for her soul."

"It's my fault she's gone. I can never do enough penance to make up for it." Sam shuddered. "Not in this lifetime."

"I want you to say one Our Father and one Hail Mary."

Sam barked a harsh laugh.

"That doesn't even scratch the surface. I can't even--"

"Wait. I'm not finished." Father O'Malley regained his poise, and his strong, even tone reverberated in Sam's ears. "I also want you to pray for the person responsible for Kristen's death."

"Hell, no!" Sam blurted, the idea of absolution jolting his brittle psyche. "I can't pray for that sick son of a bitch. He's killed four women, including Kristen, after brutalizing them, and we have no idea who he is. We're working day and night--"

"That's your penance, son." Father O'Malley said, gravely. "In addition, you must perform the Act of Contrition and say the Rosary. Don't let that individual's cruel soul steal yours."

The Danger Game by Caitlyn Nicholas - virtual book tour and giveaway

Today author Caitlyn Nicholas visits on her tour with Goddess Fish Promotions for the romantic suspense novel, "The Danger Game".

Caitlyn will be awarding three prizes: a $25 Amazon GC and Caitlyn Nicholas gift bag to one randomly drawn commenter, and a Caitlyn Nicholas gift bag to two randomly drawn commenters during the tour (international giveaway), so leave a comment today and follow the rest of her tour by clicking on the banner above.

Now, down to business! Caitlyn was brave enough to share five things about herself we might not have guessed....

1. When I first took myself backpacking in Europe (at the tender age of 17) I was such a young innocent thing that I assumed the scantily clad ladies hanging about in doorways near my hostel were waiting for a lift home. (They were hookers)

2. I'm ambidextrous. I can do almost everything left and right handed, except for write - which I do left handed. (It comes in handy), and cut with scissors - which I do right handed.

3. I was born in England and moved to Australia in 1983 at the age of 11. My Mother is Australian and Father is English. As a child, at home I spoke with an English accent and at school with a broad Australian one! I love both countries - but I'm sorry UK, the Aussie rugby team owns my heart.

4. I can speak, read and write Chinese (very rustily). Many years ago (1998) I spent three months on a language exchange in Kunming, the capital of Yunnan province, in South East China. I was once locked out of my apartment complex there, and was caught scaling the fence by the local police. (It ended well - and there are a lot of photos of me looking slightly stressed adorning a police station somewhere).

5. I once wanted to be a chef. I studied cooking for a summer at the Cordon Bleu cookery school in London. One of the other students was from Montana, he fell madly in love with me and begged me to go back to the States and live on his ranch. (I said no - but I've always wondered what if??)

Flick likes computers. She’s good with them, and they do what she tells them, mostly. People, however, are more of a challenge.

But when a terrifyingly dangerous program is stolen, and her mentor killed, Flick finds herself on the run. The police are convinced she’s committed murder, and a sinister weapons developer will stop at nothing to force her to work for him.

In Ben’s line of work being suspicious keeps you alive. So when Flick turns to him, he quickly realises that she’s up to her neck in trouble and hasn’t fully grasped the danger she is in.

First he has to keep her safe, and then, together, they have to figure out how to save the world from an epic meltdown.

Three hours later she stood outside the thick glass doors of the ITC building and groaned as she remembered that her swipe cards, keys, and phone sat comfortably inside on her desk. She only had her wallet, and right now money and credit cards were next to useless.

She thought of the Security guard in the Vice Chancellor’s building. Maybe he’d still be there and would have access to get her in, or at least know who could help. She checked her watch. Nearly midnight.

“Locked out?” She jumped as a voice spoke, close behind her.

The security guard emerged from the shadows.

“Woah,” she said. “Are you following me?”

“Yes,” he said.

“I know Tai-Kwon-Do.”

“Really?” he said. “I bet I know it better.”

“I’m bet you do, actually.”

He was tall, she barely came up to his shoulder, and he looked broad and intimidating in his dark suit and white shirt.

“Its not safe at this time of night, do you know how many assaults there are on campus? Especially on a Friday night.”

“Thanks, but I’m fine -” She peered at his name badge, squinting in the dim light. “- Ben. I can look after myself.” “Except for being locked out right now.” He raised his eyebrows enquiringly, with the hint of a smile.

“Yes, except for that.”

I began writing in 2005. Exhausted, pregnant (sure I was going to expire from morning-sickness) and coping with a demanding toddler, I decided the time was right to embark on a writing career. (In hindsight I may have been suffering from a scorching case of sleep-deprivation).

Still, it kinda worked out. My debut novel - and the first manuscript I'd ever written - Running Scared, was published in January 2007. My next book, Secret Intentions followed. Then I had a short story published in the Mammoth Book of Special Ops Romance (MBSOR) in 2010 - my story is called The Grey Man.

In 2012 my novel Drive Me To Distraction was published, and my novella The Danger Game came out just before Christmas. My next book, The Bunker, will be published in July 2013.

Angel of Syn by Mertianna Georgia - Review tour and giveaway

(Full length, Paranormal/Urban Fantasy)

This review is done in conjunction with the author's virtual tour with Goddess Fish Promotions.

Mertianna will be awarding a canvas tote bag printed with the book cover on one side and a saying on the other("Are you a syn-er?"), and filled with goodies plus a $20 Amazon gift card to a randomly drawn commenter during the tour (US ONLY), so comment today AND follow the tour (if you click on the tour banner above, it'll take you to a list of her tour stops) -- the more you read and comment, the better your odds of winning. You could be introduced to a great new author AND win an awesome prize!

Contemporary witch Cara Augustine goes international and inter-dimensional, from San Francisco to France to an alternate Eden-like dimension, in this second book of the Synemancer series.

Cara is a fugitive, pursued by the Portalkind police for breaking a major covenant. When she accidently made a werewolf her witch’s familiar, it amounted to enslaving a human. And the punishment is death. On the run for her life, she and her companions stumble into a strange paradise dimension. But they quickly find the dangerous world is filled with strange creatures, deadly and beautiful. And, because she’s quickly learning a Synemancer’s life is never simple. Cara has to deal with an amorous Nephilim (half-angel half-witch), a dangerously deranged French werewolf, and the darkly handsome Nightkind she just might love. Each powerful supernatural man has his own reasons for wanting to possess Cara, body and soul. But if the Portalkind police catch her, she’ll be in a fight for her life.

This book had non-stop action and a fascinating premise.  When I chose to review it, I didn't realize it was part of a series.  I haven't read the book prior, and admit I felt a little lost at first (there are lots of character dynamics I didn't understand at first ... Cara has interesting relationships with many, many male characters), but the author does a good job of filling us in, so after a couple of chapters I was right into the swing of things.

Cara frustrated me a bit at first.  I thought she was taking some unnecessary risks,  but it really came down to her trying to do the right thing, regardless of the possibility of danger to herself.

I also struggled a bit with all the many love interests that surrounded her.  Tom, her were-familiar; Azrael, part Nephilim and all hottie in love, and Roman who is probably the one she's supposed to be with.  With all that testosterone, she's practically in a state of constant arousal.

This is not a simple book.  It's packed with details, action and twists.  I had to fight against the need to speed read in order to find out what happened next so that I didn't miss anything important.

One warning:  there's a pretty graphic scene in the book that may disturb more sensitive readers.

Ms. George did a great job guiding this first time reader through the  twists and turns of her universe (and through another dimension as well).  Despite being a bit lost at first, and struggling to understand Cara's sexual responses to so many men, I enjoyed this book.  I'll be interested in seeing what she comes up with next!

4 flowers - This was a very good book! I'd recommend it to my friends.

Now enjoy an excerpt:

Bart straightened from his defensive semi-crouch, still eyeing the Hounds warily. I glanced around the room to see if the orbs were here, but they were nowhere in sight. The mirror chimed and shimmered for the umpteenth time since I’d come into the room. A tall, pale man dressed in black and wearing a black backpack walked into the room. Azrael stood silently on Amelia’s hardwood floor, and by the expression on his beautiful face, he was angry enough to chew spells and spit out hexes. He quickly scanned the room. His ice-blue eyes focused on me and I had his full attention. All Hades was about to break loose. With two weres, two Hellhounds, and a Nightkind in the room, the situation was about to get bloody.

Mertianna currently lives with her husband, son, and three dogs in Northern California. At a young age, while traveling the globe with her military family, she discovered the joys of reading. Armed with a fascination for science fiction, the paranormal, and fantasy, she amused, shocked, and impressed her teachers with her imaginative stories.

As an adult, reality reared its boring head, and she joined the business workforce. After many years working as a professional manager while secretly wishing she was a writer, she took a detour from the corporate world to immerse herself in the fictional worlds of her own making.

Mertianna has accumulated multiple graduate degrees in business and survived years of doctoral studies in psychology, all of which undoubtedly has influenced how her characters behave or don’t behave as the case may be.

Coming Unbound by Lacey Savage - virtual tour and giveaway

Today author Lacey Savage visits on her tour with Goddess Fish Promotions for the contemporary erotic romance, "Coming Unbound".

Lacey will be awarding a $25 Amazon gift certificate to a randomly drawn commenter during the tour, so leave a comment today and follow the rest of her tour by clicking on the banner above.

Now, down to business! Thanks to Lacey for answering all my prying questions.

Why do you write in your genre? What draws you to it?

I write erotic romance because it offers a no-holds-barred look at intimacy. I love mainstream romance, don’t get me wrong, but I always found myself wishing the author had left the bedroom door wide open. I wanted to know what happened between the characters when they were vulnerable with each other.

I think sex says so much about the way two people interact. And sure, the mechanics of sex are pretty basic, but I think every couple makes love differently. I don’t mean when it comes to inserting “tab A into slot B”, but rather, in the way they communicate. Who takes control? Do they speak? If they do, what do they say? How focused are they on each other’s pleasure versus their own? How does sex complicate their growing relationship? I love exploring issues of intimacy, so erotic romance seemed like a perfect fit for me.

What research is required?

For me, it definitely depends on the book. I’ve written books that required very little research. These are the books set in locales I know well, with characters whose jobs and day-to-day lives are familiar to me. COMING UNBOUND is one of those.

I’ve also written books that required tons of research. For example, I, NEFERTITI, one of my first novels, is set in Ancient Egypt. I used famous historical figures like Nefertiti and Akhenaten as my main characters, so I spent months researching before I wrote a single word.

Name one thing you learned from your heroine.

Ginny taught me that it’s okay to ask for what you want, both in the bedroom and outside of it. I think so many of us keep our needs and wants hidden from our partners, either because we’re afraid of how they’ll react, or because we’re so focused on giving them what they want and need. Being giving is wonderful, of course, but not at the expense of sacrificing your own desires.

Do you have any odd or interesting writing quirks, habits or superstitions?

Oh boy, do I ever! There are two things I can’t write without: a candle and a cup of tea. But not just any candle – it has to be the “Trick or Treat” candle from Yankee Candle… the one that smells like candy corn and buttercream. And I can’t drink just any tea, either. It has to be a green tea infused with rose petals, which I’ve only been able to find at a specialty tea shop here in town. Without those two things, the words don’t flow nearly as well.

Are you a plotter or pantser?

I’m a bit of both. I need to know where I’m headed when I first start a book, so I do some work on imagining my characters and figuring out their goals and motivations. Then I create a loose scene outline. This often changes as I write, but it makes me feel better to know I’m not going in blind.

Look to your right – what’s sitting there?

To my right is my art desk. My office is split into two – on one side is my writing nook, which includes my computer, a stack of books and notebooks, my cup of tea and my candle, of course. Immediately to my right is another desk identical to the first, but this one’s used for my other creative pursuits: painting, drawing, scrapbooking, cardmaking, and mixed media art.

Anything new coming up from you? What?

I don’t have anything else contracted right now, but I have a number of projects on the go. Unfortunately, they’re still at the “I-can’t-talk-about-it” stage.

Do you have a question for our readers?

I’d love to know how your readers feel about books featuring couples who are already married. Do you like them? Dislike them? Or do you just let the story speak for itself, regardless of whether the couple’s known each other for 5 minutes, or for 15 years?

Ginny and Cole have struggled to connect intimately since before their marriage. When Cole suggests they surprise each other with the most sexually daring things they can dream up for their anniversary, Ginny reluctantly musters every ounce of courage she possesses to get nipple piercings.

Cole’s surprise?

He’s turned their suburban basement into a dungeon—and hired a sexy Dom to teach them the art of BDSM.

Desperately in love with his wife, Cole’s aware of sensitive sexual demons in Ginny’s past, and will try anything to beat them. Whips, toys, ménage play with the Dom…all these and more could help Ginny find pleasure, break through her issues.

Or, if they’re not careful, possibly just break Ginny.

I groped for my cocktail glass then drained it. “Now, are you going to answer my question or not?”

She pursed her lips for a moment before replying. “Men want whores.”

My stomach bottomed out. That wasn’t at all the answer I’d expected. It went against everything I believed.

I motioned for her to go on with a flick of my trembling hand.

“They also want a woman who’s confident in her own skin. Someone secure enough in her sexuality to tease them, taunt them, play with them.”

The blood drained from my face. That wasn’t me at all. I liked sex well enough, but Cole was the one who initiated our romantic encounters almost all the time.

“What they don’t want,” Donna continued, “is someone who just lies there and takes it.” She sipped her martini and furrowed her brows. “Why are you asking me this?”

I sucked in a breath and considered lying or changing the subject. But my heart pounded hard against my breastbone, and I needed to know more. “Cole wants us to spice things up for our anniversary,” I blurted. “And I have no idea what to do.”

“Is that all?” Donna laughed, the humor crinkling her eyes. “Geez, girl, you scared me. You were so serious. I thought you were getting a divorce or something.”

I swallowed hard but said nothing. A divorce might not be too far off. Cole had married a woman with little sexual experience and no interest in learning anything beyond the particulars of inserting Tab A into Slot B, and I couldn’t help but wonder if he had a Lilian of his own. Cole worked as a technician at a medical laboratory. Had someone there already offered to hop on a photocopy machine and spread her legs for him?

The thought soured my stomach. I set my empty glass aside and gripped Donna’s hands. “Help me.”

Her eyes widened. She squeezed my fingers in a supportive gesture, and I was insanely grateful she wasn’t laughing.

“Okay, well, you must have some idea. Think about a fantasy of yours… Something you haven’t gotten to act out but would like to.” I must have looked completely blank, because Donna sighed. She signaled a waiter who was passing by. “We’re going to need more alcohol.”.

Hitched by Erin Nicholas - virtual tour and giveaway

Today we're spotlighting Erin Nicholas on her tour with Goddess Fish Promotions for the contemporary romance, "Hitched", part of the Promise Harbor Wedding series from Samhain Publishing.

Erin will be awarding a backlist eBook at every stop, and a $15 Amazon or BN GC to a randomly drawn commenter during the tour, so comment today AND follow her tour (if you click on the banner above, it'll take you to a list of tour stops)! The more you read and comment, the better your odds of winning. You could be introduced to a great new author AND win a really cool prize!

And she thought the bridesmaids dresses were her biggest problem...

Allison Ralston would rather be anywhere other than this wedding. Even if the wedding is hers. Especially since the wedding is hers.

But Allie's determined to restore her family's happiness, and if tying the knot with longtime family friend, Josh Brewster, is the way to do it, then she'll walk down that aisle, toss that bouquet and drink that champagne. Oh, she'll definitely drink the champagne.

There’s only one thing that could get Gavin Montgomery back to Promise Harbor. And she’s about to say I do to another man. Now he’s back to claim what’s his—even if he has to do it in the middle of her wedding.

Allie is shocked—and okay, a little turned on—when Gavin literally sweeps her off her feet. Safe in his arms, she succumbs to fatigue, stress, and yes, the champagne, only to wake up in his bed. In Alaska.

Now that he’s put four thousand miles between Allie and all her responsibilities, Gavin’s determined to show her that they can make a life together. If he has his way, the next wedding Allie will be planning will be theirs.

Warning: Contains a guy so in love he’s willing to break up the wedding of the season, a bride who just needs to get to, well, anywhere else, and enough hot sex to take them from New England to Alaska and back again.

“Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to unite this man and this woman in holy matrimony.”

“Oh, hell no.”

Every head swiveled toward him as Gavin Montgomery strode purposefully down the center aisle of St. Mark’s Methodist Church.

“Gavin?” Allie’s shocked question was the first thing he heard over all the other noises—gasps, whispers, creaking pews.

The second thing he heard was the groom’s question. “This is Gavin?”

The groom was Josh Brewster. Of course it was. The Brewsters had been close friends with Allie’s family for years. Who else but Mr. Perfect would be standing next to Allie at the altar?

Nobody was more dearly beloved that Josh Frickin’ Brewster.

“What do you think you’re doing?” Josh demanded.

“I’m here to talk to Allie.”

Josh moved to stand between Gavin and Allie. “We’re kind of in the middle of something.”

“Yeah, this can’t wait.” Gavin looked past Josh to Allie. “I need to talk to you. Now.”

Her eyes were wide and she looked pale. Like she-might-faint-any-minute pale. But he wasn’t so sure it was from the shock of seeing him. She’d looked terrible in the wedding announcement in the Promise Harbor Times, too. She was way too thin. She was too pale. She looked—sick and tired.

He suspected, based on the two a.m. phone call he’d received, that she was also hung-over.

He knew he looked like shit, himself. He felt like shit. He’d been out in the field for the past two weeks and hadn’t known Allie was getting married until last night. He needed a haircut, his beard had been growing for two weeks, he hadn’t slept or showered or eaten in… he wasn’t sure. A long time. Once he’d heard the phone message from Hayley, his best friend in Promise Harbor, nothing had mattered but getting to Allie. Before she married another man.

Even with owning one-twelfth of a small private jet and living forty miles from the pilot, it took awhile to get from Alaska to Massachusetts. He’d landed in time to rent a car and drive like a bat out of hell to get here. Just as she’d been about to say I do.

In spite of the thinness of her cheeks and the dark circles under her eyes, she looked gorgeous to him. Seeing her for the first time in over a year shook him. He wanted to grab her. He wanted to carry her out of here. He wanted to hold her and take care of her.

He wanted to feed her.

Good lord, she’d always been thin but now she was downright skinny. Her long blond hair was piled on top of her head in a mass of curls and baby’s breath. Her dress was white and lacy and left her shoulders and arms bare, showing off smooth skin that was as white as the dress. She wore three-inch heels, putting her at five-ten and her big green eyes were watching every move he made.

She looked dazed.

He could work with that.

He started toward her but Josh moved to block him. “I don’t think so, Gavin.”

Gavin sighed. He’d known this was going to be a spectacle, of course. Barging into a church during a wedding and stealing the bride created a spectacle by anyone’s definition.

The church was completely silent and he saw camera flashes going off from every direction. He was pretty sure this particular spectacle was going to end up on the internet.

“Listen, I can do this here in front of the whole town. I don’t mind. I’m leaving here with Allie one way or another. But I think keeping some of this private might be appropriate.” He leaned around Josh to look at Allie. “I have some things I need to say before you say I do to another man, Al.”

Josh sighed, stepped closer and lowered his voice. “Don’t do this, Gavin. Haven’t you messed with her enough? Just let her be happy.” “That’s exactly what I want to do,” Gavin insisted, not backing down an inch. “Is that what you want?”

“I’m standing next to her in a tux in front of a minister. What do you think?”

“I think that if you don’t let her talk to me, you know that she’ll always wonder. You don’t want that do you? To have your wife wondering about another man?”

Josh blew out a long breath and shoved his hand through his hair. Then he half turned to his bride. “Allie?”

“What would I wonder?” Her voice was weak and again Gavin wasn’t sure it was completely because of shock. She sounded and looked exhausted.

“You’d wonder what I had to say to you so badly that I would fly over four thousand miles so I could rush in here to stop your wedding.”
